  1. I don't know that one. Do you know the Hat releases from 90s, very strong
  2. I find myself wishing my deceased younger sister a happy birthday every year, part of remembering all she brought to my life. I also mark the day she was so suddenly taken from us, coincidentally two days ago
  3. Interesting line up, any good? Another good day from the design team at least...
  4. I hope you enjoy it, I suspect you might
  5. Thank you Thank you
  6. Just reading this and the other thread about Fredriksson as I give a first listen to a Columbia 'Intervall' that arrived today. What a great album it is too and what a player.
  7. Yes to this sentiment
  8. Any good? I've not paid much attention to them since the Ours/Theirs and Braxton releases. Those and previous albums I enjoyed
  9. @medjuckor @jazzbo Would this be a good entry read for someone woefully ignorant of the subject or is there a better intro bio of Armstrong?
  10. Listening to that now, thanks
  11. My first reaction was suicide pact but then I read how much younger his wife was and that made me wonder.
  12. Papadopoulos, Kowald, Floridis - Pyrichia [Ano Kato Records, Greece 1991]

  14. Thanks, nice cover shot too
  15. Sad news but what a legacy she leaves. And as relevant today as back then And the duets with Donny, and Peabo
  16. I like the sound of that and have just found it on Tidal so will check it out

    RIP Jerry Butler

This thread is making me think where is @soulpope. He hasn't posted for a while now and he'd surely have commented here. I hope he's ok
  19. What were they thinking?
  20. You'll just have to come to him
  21. That's just how you describe it in English 😀 Jarrett to me is such an over- and self-indulgent play who "fiddles" more often than not. I realise this is a minority view but I'm happy in that minority, seemingly with Pim. I think Survivors Suite is such a success simply because his playing is leavened by the others' contributions more than on other recordings. And because it's a great composition. Where I disagree with @Pim is that I think the European Quartet players achieve this too on some recordings, 'Nude Ants' and 'Belonging' being examples. I can really only listen to Jarrett when he's in a band with horns. What's that @Pim? Not a name I know at all. Will have to go and research now it's on your playlist Aha, Waldron! Now I know why...
  22. And that's one of the best explanations of engaging with EP's music I have read. Reflects almost exactly what I experience. The recent 4CD set is a beautifully produced release, all solo. I'm not sure how much he travels abroad these days but if you get a chance to see him live, in any context, it's well worth it @Pim
  23. Pretty much the only Jarrett that gets spun here too
