  1. This is on Discogs with a 2020 date and no copies for sale yet. "The HOSTIPITALITY SUITE developed from a sonic live deliberation during SAVVY Contemporary’s 2018 project WHOSE LAND HAVE I LIT ON NOW? Contemplations on the Notions of Hospitality. In our effort to reflect on the complex entanglements between hostility and hospitality, Jacques Coursil together with Marque GIlmore proposed a phonic scope and a sonic scape. Choosing the path of music, and jazz for that matter, seemed to be a possibility of negotiating those spaces between guest, host and ghost. An extended conversation developed and found its way on this record."
  2. Tease
  3. Joseph Jarman, Don Moye - Earth Passage - Density [Black Saint] Joseph Jarman, Don Moye - Black Paladins [Black Saint] Joseph Jarman, Anthony Braxton - Together Alone [Delmark]
  4. Not until my 2LPs have at least arrived! Would love the Elvin Mosaic Looks like they have restocked too. Don't remember LRG being there on my last visit
  5. All by 8 o'clock on a Sunday morning, impressive! Nice selection. 'Black Palladins' is such a great album. Honest Jons? Yesterday...all online Elvin Jones - Live At The Lighthouse. LP, been meaning to buy this for ages. Yesterday was the day. Emma Jane Thackeray - Um Yang. 12" EP, enjoyed her previous releases and this sounded great on the radio Hozan Yamamoto - Ginkai. One of my favourite albums ever. CD to back up my LP and to hear if it works any better as one 'suite'
  6. Interesting, I like a lot of that, just sometimes it sounds affected where the technique gets in the way and becomes too prominent rather than serving the musical idea and flow (something I've always heard in Peter Evans too, too clever by half. less is often more Peter) I'll be investigating this recording more. Thanks I rather suspect this won't change anyone's mind, whichever side of the fence they're standing. But I like it.
  7. So was I. First time I'd done so for a couple of years. I always spot the bass solo not only because of it's musicality but also because my LP gets a bit crackly at that point and I always think I need to upgrade. Another great loss, as evidenced not least by felser's list up thread
  8. Both look very tasty from here, Cheers!
  9. Thanks for reposting this. An ideal soundtrack to the thread
  10. OK, so now I"m giving 'On the tender spot....' that further listen. The first track is very strong indeed, the shift from improv to Latin is great. Second track sounding good too, dense, lots to absorb. Looking forward to listening to the rest now. This is reminding me why I rated the early albums.
  11. I may just have to accept the inevitable...
  12. Oh, come on Steve, I share your enthusiasm for all those and own plenty of albums by them but also like Akinmusire too and have four of his/albums. Not necessarily a case of either/or for me. There's a buzz because he is a talented musician, no one on this thread has questioned that. We're just discussing the progression or otherwise of his recording career to date. Whales swimming in shoals , lovely description. But I do read the Guardian music pages (lees than I used to), am I a "cool aunt"?
  13. Same opinion. I really liked the FSNT and earlier BN releases. I admired rather than liked 'Origami Harvest'. The double live left me bewildered as I saw the band about the time of the recording and thought they were red hot but it didn't transfer onto that release to my ears. I haven't given 'On the tender spot...' enough time yet but first impressions didn't grab. There's enough to keep me coming back but returns do seem to be diminishing. Maybe the next one...
  14. I think Sir Geoffrey might have something to say about that.... As may Messrs Hockney and Bennett and Barbara Hepworth but we'll forgive such hyperbole given the sad circumstances

    Mal Waldron

Congratulations! How many albums is that? All you have to do next is listen to them all, in chronological order of course
  16. Some of my favourite Peacock on this album
  17. Oh no, what a contribution across so many years.
  18. Thanks for posting. An interesting read and equally interesting to see reactions to it above. There's an informed response to the article by Steve Lehman on Twitter. He highlights the work of Jackie McLean at Hartford as a precursor to what some in the article are asking to happen.
  19. And Kingbee Records is a great little shop
  20. Glad to hear another's being played. I certainly noticed the bass being high in the mix.
  21. £1.50 for them, they're not Free Jazz
  22. in which case both of you are happy with what you have. A good outcome all round. Let the format wars cease here I find it quite odd that increasingly on this board someone says how pleased they are with the format they are listening to, and have just invested in, only for someone to poor cold water on their enjoyment by questioning how could they be hearing what they say the are hearing because of the format they have chosen to listen to. Let's just respect eachother's different choices for accessing great music without having to always question, shall we?. Just a suggestion.
