  1. Hearing this live was one of the most astonishing musical events of my last ten years. I miss Jaimie not making new music
  2. That lights the gloomiest of days, I'd say. Truly lovely music. Three good ones there
  3. 😁 it's touch or go, this or the studio recording by the same band I think. 5 DeJohnette leader dates down to 3 is the aim but may not be achieved Change of tack now, welcoming a new arrival Rolf & Joachim Kuhn Quartet - Re-Union In Berlin [CBS, Germany 1965]
  4. Next up in the stay or go pile Jack DeJohnette New Directions - In Europe [ECM, Germany 1980]
  5. James Newton - The Mystery School [India Navigation, USA 1980] James Newton - Water Music [Gramavision, USA 1986] James Newton Trio & Quartet - Binu [Circle Records, Germany 1978] A morning of Newton as part of an exercise to see what can be weeded from my collection - none of these, that's for sure
  6. Apt and a great album also
  7. Fantastic, just what I was looking for, thank you
  8. Just listened to it and can see why it may have confused a few Popsters at the time
  9. A lot to digest I'm finding. Several plays in and I'm not sure I've totally got it, it remains intriguing and interesting.
  10. Chuck E. Weiss Rickie Lee Jones Leee John
  11. Video unavailable here. That piece is probably the only Ives I could take a stab at identifying Just to add, I did listen to the new Denk recording this afternoon and enjoyed a fair deal of it so will be revisiting.
  12. Great, thanks Scott. I like a little project.
  13. It's on Tidal. So as someone who's been intrigued by Ives but never really engaged, where do I start?
  14. I think "Geezer" might have a different meaning over here, a bit shady, on the make possibly illegally, with an element of roguish charm. Maybe not! "Old geezer" is specific and slightly different. An old one of those above but more commonly generically used for old man, affectionately Divided by a common language again...
  15. Wow! If I had the wealth and the health to get there I'd be there in a flash
  16. My pleasure, I'm pleased it's being appreciated!

    Quincy Jones RIP

Shhh...don't upset the Jazz Police with this mention of commercial popularity 😀 l saw Austin Powers mentioned at least once yesterday, Channel 4 news I think maybe also in the Guardian's coverage. I suspect writers are finding it pretty difficult to get everything in within their word counts, a testimony to his wide range. The Petridis piece in the Guardian is good but even that ends up reading a bit like a list of his collaborations through the years.
  18. Exactly, on both counts 👍
  19. Me too now but streaming not LP. Just looked at the band, absolutely ridiculous line-up. And what a version of 'Troubled Waters'
  20. Thanks, I look forward to hearing that
  21. I really like that album, picked up an LP recently. Can you recommend anything similar? And playing here for obvious reasons

    Quincy Jones RIP

Not on the BBC, so far the Jackson years have been mentioned but easily as much focus has been on his other work in film, with Sinatra and writing/arranging for big bands etc. I'm impressed by their coverage and hoping for some more in depth as they pull it together. That aside, those Jackson albums are pretty damn important in recent-ish music history and definitely deserve the coverage.
  23. Yes, me too Concept reminiscent of the New Directions album from 2000 (!?!) which I really enjoyed. https://www.discogs.com/master/1431771-Harris-Moran-Osby-Shim-New-Directions Although New Directions did a lot of covers whereas the new band seems to be original material
