  1. just announced an Oto date in November. I'll be there, life willing
  2. Finally, after a couple of years, got my hands on a copy of that recently only to discover it was scratched so back to the seller it went. At least I got to listen to it and know that it's well worth hunting for again
  3. The only copy I've ever seen looked in very good condition and was tucked under Evan Parker's arm. Whilst he played the gig he left it lying unattended on the Vortex piano. I spent some time wondering if I could cause a sufficient distraction...
  4. Both the McNair and Karyobin would have the pink Island labels not the palm tree I'm guessing.
  5. Booker Little - Victory and Sorrow [Bethlehem] no U Roy influences apparent on this one...
  6. New York Art Quartet - Call It Art [Triple Point] LP1. Starts with 'Banging On The White House Door' which seems somewhat apt this week Me neither. I don't ever recall seeing a Jazz LP on Island before. Maybe they released lots and they've passed me by This label means reggae, and some other genres, to me but not Jazz
  7. My favourite Bley, deep indeed
  8. I didn't buy it because I didn't like it as much as you did Steve. I gave it a good listen though. Different strokes
  9. Kazuko Shiraishi Dedicated To The Late John Coltrane [Musicworks]
  10. Irreversible Entanglements - s/t [International Anthem/Don Giovanni] still the most vital and exciting contemporary album I've bought this year
  11. Ornette Coleman - Of Human Feelings [Antilles]
  12. Shirley Scott - Scottie [Prestige] I was listening to this live version of the band only yesterday. I should get the ECM out again
  13. Thanks, for the thought on shelf thickness but hadn't thought of the dividers as weight-spreaders. I was coming at it from a care for the LPs angle too. There's the weight of that many, almost inevitably not vertical LPs, leaning on the LPs at one end that can't be good for the covers if nothing else, so a divider or two lessens that.
  14. I'm about to have an alcove shelved out to accommodate my LPs. The shelves will be 1110mm (43.75'') wide. I'm just wondering what folks' thoughts are for how regularly that width should be divided, if at all. thanks in anticipation
  15. Kenny W guests on that too. Another one I attended
  16. It was 20+ years ago so I don't remember that much detail, I'm afraid. But the timings feel about right for a Vortex evening. Just looked at the Discogs entry and it says " All of the music performed that evening is included unedited.", a quote from the sleevenote perhaps? I've never bought the recording for some reason
  17. Thanks Clifford, it's happened enough not to be coincidence
  18. Same struggle here...weakening
  19. Yes, I often find that's the case on whatever he appears on
  20. or different side, responding to a different improvisatory context? the 'Mossman' album is a cracker and fitting recognition of a very nice man I got to know when he ran the original Vortex - I worked in the local library service and he used to drop off the flyers each month for distribution. We'd have a chat and he'd sometimes let me in for free.
