  1. Plese do share.
  2. You could argue that Joe Henderson also entered the scene before recording with Dorham at age 26, but of course Tony Williams' maturity at age 17 was astounding. I would argue that Corea showed his "later" self already in 1965, for instance on this recording with Herbie Mann. As noted elsewhere on this forum, also very exciting comping behind Dave Pike's solo. As for "Tones", the version with Blue Mitchell actually predates Corea's Vortex album slightly, and I think he plays even better on the tune there:
  3. Last week (before the news of Corea's passing), I got these two on vinyl:
  4. This rings so true with me and is what I'm thinking when I hear derogatory comments regarding Corea's "missteps" or "lack of direction" in relation to later albums. He was a brilliant player with a great, creative mind.
  5. I have a live 1972 audio recording from Stockholm (though without Flora).
  6. This one hurts for me, one of my heroes. Confirmed on his website as well. https://chickcorea.com/ I had the honor of playing four-handed piano with him on stage when he did a solo concert in Sweden in 2018. Will cherish that memory forever.
  7. Do you remember the old stock plastic bags he often used as extra protection for CDs, meant for reel-to-reel tapes (I think they said "Music Tape" or something similar)?
  8. In the case of the Japanese sleeves, they generally seem to be very well cared for and this issue is present on so many albums that I suspect non owner-related environmental factors, maybe even in combination with some paper quality aspect. Have any of you seen this on non-Japanese sleeves from Japan?
  9. I have made purchases from several Japanese dealers on eBay and discogs, and almost all EX rated items have been close to mint. However, Japanese covers are very often stained for some reason.
  10. We have very efficient sorting facilities in Sweden. As for used LPs, I buy from Japan, the US and Europe both on discogs and eBay and once you've found trustworthy sellers it works fine. Feedback plus the way they have worded their item descriptions usually tell how professional they are. I realize that caring for many different pressings, like on discogs, can be problematic, but it also removes the old eBay problem of trying to identify what is really on sale from insufficient item descriptions.
  11. Original post (according to the board search function) here: The first one to use it after Jim seems to have been @mikeweil, so maybe he's the one who made it into a movement.
  12. Here's one track from the album, not necessarily the best but pleasant enough : (BTW, the album's in mono )
  13. Speaking of Jerome Richardson (in another thread), this pairing of him and Frank Wess is very enjoyable. It has the classic rhythm section of several other Savoy sessions. Should definitely be in the flute recommendations thread as well.
  14. This just in. 'Hip Vibrations' has liner notes by Chris Albertson.
  15. I would also have considered cutting a 47 minute LP. More than one classic Miles Davis album had a longer playing time, but I don't hear audiophiles complain about those.
  16. Hill's 'Passing Ships' will be a three-sided album with a playing time of 47 and a half minutes. EU Amazon price: 55 Euro. This is a title I would have been interested in, but it's simply too expensive.
  17. The bassist's hairdo and shirt looks almost like something from the 2000s. Ahead of his time? 🙂
  18. I have this one on an early 80s Pathe Marconi pressing. It sounds kind of muddy, even if I am usually not that enthusiastic about these pressings. I always had the impression that it was a less than ideal recording to begin with. Though I should listen to it again - it's been years!
  19. Do you all remember the good old 80s? When new vinyl was *cheaper* than CDs. And of course we all got the CDs because we wanted eternal, crystal clear sound... FWIW, I remember that a full price CD was 150 SEK in this country in 1989, which today would be 28 Euro. A new LP was about 90 SEK, today = 16,50 Euro.
  20. Before his passing, you mean?

  23. Re: The Prisoner album, I believe Joe was in Herbie's working group at the time and Herbie was still with Blue Note if I am not misremembering, so nothing mysterious with his appearance there.
  24. Very nice. What are the output tubes - EL84? My speakers have EL86 which are getting harder to find, so I'm trying not to waste them.
  25. I'm not kh1958, but I've got the same Quadrophonic version of that album. From what I know, you hear all of the sound from the four channels "downmixed" to two-channel stereo. I guess there might be more than one type of quadrophonic lps, but the one I'm familiar with used some sort of "pilot tone" - much like FM stereo radio - to provide the "difference" between back and front channels. Without decoding this supersonic signal, it's just a stereo record.
