Is the Japanese pressing a good one (I almost assume it is)? This is my favorite Jazz Crusaders Lighthouse album! I've been looking for a Japanese pressing for a while, somewhat half-heartedly, as I believe it does not come in the gorgeous gatefold sleeve of the US original. Now playing a mono Scepter release (not the best sound quality to be honest) with Art Farmer.

And now:

Very nice album! I have that as a NY Mono, too. From the days when such things were affordable... Most of the releases on the Revelation label are interesting, and often also enjoyable. I believe I have some ten Clare Fischer releases. Now playing this one:

Hitchcock's 'North by Northwest'
Daniel A replied to Daniel A's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Well, I just want to make a quick update to this topic. It seems as if the moaning of Cary Grant has finally been restored in the latest 4K Blu-Ray release of this film, after having been absent since the Laserdisc era. Unfortunately, I have no intention to buy a 4K player, but at least coming generations will be able to enjoy this film as originally intended. -
The Bill English and Dave Burns Vanguard titles are available on streaming platforms (including YouTube) as part of the Vanguard "Digital Vault" series.

Perhaps because there had already been two Blakey albums called "A Night at Birdland".

Miles Davis — May 26, 1958 session (pre-KOB, with the KOB line-up)
Daniel A replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Discography
Didn't that '58 Sessions' CD have a take of Stella by Starlight that never has appeared anywhere else? It appears to have been a mistake; the originally released version was a composite take, but on the CD a single - partially different - take was used. -
Dead Tone Poets Society? Subscription is not available to non-US residents, it seems. But my Connoisseur CD of 'Davis Cup' is sufficient for me.

FWIW, I can see discs 1 through 5, 35 tracks, playing time 5 hours 46 minutes. Looking more closely, it appears that this is the full contents of the 6 CD set. However, they have assigned every concert to one "Disc" in the Spotify album, even when they are distributed across more than one disc in the physical set.

Meditating on a Riff

I managed to come across the longer clip I failed to find back in 2018. English spoken interview starts at 1:08. -
Swedish pianist Staffan Abeleen (1940-2008) made some fine recordings. Not widely known outside Sweden, I guess. (Here's also a rare sighting of the ill-fated but gifted tenorist Björn Netz)

Very nice article, thanks for posting! A bit amusing that the illustration shows a consumer-level Sony reel-to-reel deck (if it's not a super clever reference to Sony, the rightsholder).

Thanks, Rooster! Your post came in between and I didn't see it first. ...and thanks to that I found the full hour:

Any idea where this clip is from and whether the full performance is available somewhere? The description says 1966. Due to the somewhat uneven video, it's difficult to tell whether the video actually matches the audio, but sometimes it looks like it at least.

So-called "streaming farms" have been a reality for years, and can be used for boosting royalties for both real and "fake" artists. Depending on the relationship between the offender and the streaming platform, this will either be a violation of the terms, or simply fraud. I am more interested in the "AI" aspect, which does not seem to be explored that much in the coverage of the current case. There are several examples of groups/artists which are presented on platforms as real artists (e.g. a "verified" artist on Spotify), but which are quite evidently computer-generated music. Not sure that I want to give them more exposure, but try searching for a band which is called [the Capital of Sweden (replace with actual name)] Jazz Quartet. They have hundreds of albums out, almost each and every of them on a different label (presumably to add confusion). The earliest albums seemed to be recorded by actual (though mediocre) musicians, but for years their output has been fully computerized.

Not sure it proves anything, but the DVD release of the Sergio Mendes documentary "In the Key of Joy" has the following quote from Lani Hall on its cover: "I'm forever grateful to him for changing the course of my life."

Overe here (partially for reasons that Niko mentioned) credit/debit card or mobile apps are the "standard" menthods of payment and cash the exception. Some shops are "no cash" by policy because it is a hassle and a risk for them to handle it. And luxury shops do not want to be used for money laundering (criminals buying e.g. jewelry for black money). Personally, I don't use cash even once a month.
