I think it was actually out on CD once in Japan. The music is rather lightweight, despite a couple of good soloists.

So far, I've received what I've ordered from Caiman. However, I was a bit disappointed in finding that a Blue Note disc was the copy-controlled Euro version, allthough it was shipped from the US. My first - and hopefully last - copy protected CD.

Art Blakey "Theme from the Golden Boy" (original stereo Colpix) This is really one of the most enjoyable Messengers albums! Particularly good to hear Shorter's arrangements for the eight-horn frontline.

But I was confused by some catalog numbers I had written down; do both Emanon 17039 and 17040 refer to the same "Historically Speaking" set?

There were just these two, produced by Gigi Campi himself. I think there were two more Emanon 2 CD sets, "Historically Speaking" and "The Power of Positive Swinging", aside from the one Brownie mentions which must be "Blowing the Cobwebs Out". Never seen any of them, though.

There were at least 20 studio albums, so a complete box would probably be too big to really sell. But I'd buy anything from this band! Still looking for many of the original albums, too... Previous thread.

A friend of mine is using a rather old Audiowerk card, and it is really very good for recording. His card has an external panel with RCA jacks, although I'm not sure how it's connected to the sound card.

However, magnetic tapes - which would make up for a large part of these recordings - will inevitably become unplayable after some time due to magnetic or binder deterioration, which means they have to be transferred at some point in order to be saved.

I've got classical LPs with 40 minutes on each side, which means it would even be difficult to squeeze the contents onto a single CD. The LP grooves are narrower during quieter passages, so maximum playing time depends on the dynamics of the music. However, with playing times of 30 minutes or more the overall dynamic range will probably suffer. I've even seen a disclaimer once (on what happened to be a Red Mitchell LP from the 1980s) that in order to get all of the music onto the LP, the producer (who might have been Mitchell himself) had to limit the dynamic range of the recording.

Personally, I'm not overly enthusiastic about the Solomon Ilori album. I guess I find it more "interesting" than "enjoyable". Can't help you with an opinion on the Ukonu albums, though.

Yes, that is the UK Fontana cover. If I recall, this one is compiled from two sessions - side 1 has tracks from 'What The Dickens' and side 2 tracks from a slightly later session. It doesn't appear so; it's a conceptual album, the contents being a continuous suite. It seems to have been recorded in 1967, since the liners make a point about Dankworth's "very newest orchestra" and mentioning a May 1967 gig at Ronnie Scott's. But I think I will seek out 'Dickens' and the other of Dankworth's 60s big band dates too. Now listening to the Blue Mitchell Milestone twofer, the side from 'Smooth as the Wind'.
