  1. Ritz takes the instrument seriously, so there's no unfunny stuff with fast and high melody lines that sound like a guitar on helium. This is a FUN disc though, nice light jazz for late evenings. There's flute on about half of the tracks that gives you that laid back west coast feel.
  2. He was Rita Reijs' second husband. Never liked his playing, too stiff to my ears. What I have heard sounds pretty nice. Nothing amazingly earthshattering, but nicely swinging and bopping along. I wouldn't call it stiff. Yurpean fersure, but not stiff. Unless of course you call all yuro-jazz stiff per definitionem.
  3. Sorry I had to re-distribute my time and couldn't contribute much off late. How about quoting the posts from one year ago and make additions.
  4. the site looks like reading the liner notes to the CD issue of Läther: it puts the hurts on my mind
  5. keep it wet up there in the dark parts of Suomi

the mp3s are from a simple needle-drop. pretty okay, but still with some clicks and pops.
  15. so, when was the Uptown disc published? AMG and Amazon say it was June 21st, so that would be within the 50 year limit, albeit narrowly, placing the rights with the producer for another 50 years.
  16. looks like someone has been typing off these liners and skipped a line finishing off the first half of "...recorded on April, 14..." with the second half of "recorded on April 28". These two phrases are just above eachother in the original lay-out.
  17. DUKE ELLINGTON: EVERYTHING EVER RECORDED INCLUDING ALTERNATE TAKES, FALSE STARTS AND BREAKDOWNS. (Various venues, 1923-1974) Well, Mosaic almost pulled it off. This planned compilation (12,875 CD's, 19,434 audiophile Q-LP's) was abandoned when the mastering facility caved in under its own weight destroying the entire project. Too bad, too -- with each set you would have received a profusely illustrated booklet and your own fork lift. Walt Kraemer source
  18. Brownie, I nearly picked up a used CD of Gainsbourg's early jazz recordings not too long ago... may head back to the shop and see if it's still there. Any recommendations in that area? Myself, I have "Du Jazz Dans Le Ravin," which is really good. There is another comp titled "Couleur Café", which partly covers the same titles. But "..Ravin" has "black trombone" and "Elaeudanla Teiteia", which are among my personal favourites.
  19. Nate is right, so Nature says: http://www.nature.com/news/2005/051212/full/438900a.html "Wikipedia comes close to Britannica in terms of the accuracy of its science entries"
  20. and tjobbe is located in the middle of some dark woods. He must live in the treetop then if there is and truth to that free sight of the Cologne dome whereas ubu lives in the middle of a river. WTF? still wet behind the ears, eh?
