"Interlude in Bop: Benny Goodman in the Late 1940s"
bichos replied to ghost of miles's topic in Jazz Radio & Podcasts
it depends on to what extent you would rate Benny G's larger 1948/49 lineups as "bop" lineups (they do figure on many of the bop-influenced BG reissues), but to the best of my knowledge, guitarist FRANCIS BEECHER also is still around. (He incidentally also was on the April 14, 1949, SEPTET session lineup that also included Wardell Gray, Doug Mettome, Clyde Lombardi etc. so should indeed qualify as part of the "bop GROUP" members). Many of you will unwittingly will have heard Francis Beecher often through the years: In fact he is FRANNIE Beecher of Bill Haley's Comets (do I hear anybody yell "heresy"? ) fame and appeared on most of his hit records as well as in his movies etc. Only a few years ago he finally retired from the lineup of the revived Comets (that regularly toured all over the world) due to health reasons but AFAIK he is still with us. wow, that´s interesting! thanks for that info, i didn´t realize the fact that haley´s comets have a "connection" to the king of swing. keep boppin´ marcel- 19 replies

acording to the dodo marmarosa bio/discography by saleman and grob (flights of the vout bug), albany, georgia 2009: "as ammons at the time of recording was contractually bound to the prestige label, argo had to sell this sessionto prestige." the trio sides by marmarosa from 1961 are sponsored and supervised by jack tracy, former editor of chicago based down beat magazin, and joe segal. keep boppin´ marcel

All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth Every body stops and stares at me These two teeth are gone as you can see I don't know just who to blame for this catastrophe! But my one wish on Christmas Eve is as plain as it can be! All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth, my two front teeth, see my two front teeth! Gee, if I could only have my two front teeth, then I could with you "Merry Christmas." It seems so long since I could say, "Sister Susie sitting on a thistle!" Gosh oh gee, how happy I'd be, if I could only whistle (thhhh) All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth, my two front teeth, see my two front teeth. Gee, if I could only have my two front teeth, then I could wish you "Merry Christmas!" keep boppin´ marcel -

that´s sad news! two years ago he send me a double cd-r of unissued ellington airchecks from the timme rosenkrantz archive via the dems bulletin. (btw the worst sounds i´ve ever heard!! even the worst bird amateur recordings are in better quality, but never mind it´s the duke). what will be now with this site? keep boppin´ marcel
