  10. i have this wonderful cd since a few weeks and i must say it´s great: the sound is very good and the selection and playing of the tunes and artists are of good taste. keep boppin´ marcel
  11. about the so called "roost" session: in the modern jazz discography by w. bruyninckx is a note about this january 10, 1947 session: "the above session was originally recorded for deluxe, but sold and first issued by roost." (maybe in 1949?)? keep boppin´ marcel
  12. it seems that bix beiderbecke is the first one who was first used for a "vocalese" recording! his famouse solo on the frankie trumbauer recording of "singing the blues" from 1927. two years later trumbauer recorded with bee palmer: i´m shocked!!!!!!!!! and here is the second one! from 1934 also "singing the blues" by marion harris: that´s amazing, isn´t it??? keep boppin´ marcel
  13. happy birthday to you, freeforall and all the best! keep boppin´ marcel
  14. The omitted track would fit on an 80-minute CD. What was the maximum length of a CD in 1992? 1 hour and 20 minutes? keep boppin´ marcel
  15. ... which actually is a 10" LP with 8 tracks including the 5 that Marcel mentions (I am not aware of an EP but it may have existed). The Swiss pressing more accessible to you is on the ExLibris label. The German Opera (record club) label pressing isn't extremely rare so maybe the ExLibris one isn't either? The 4-CD box I mentioned offers a wider variety, of course. right, big beat steve, it´s not an ep, it´s a 10" lp with the tracks i´ve mentioned plus "six kicks", "headache" and "jump easy". called "the hazy osterwald show" and the nr. is 3401 (aufnahme des grammoclub ex libris zürich). keep boppin´ marcel
  16. that´s true, he was more into the jazz"field" as for example hans "james" last or ernst mosch i have a wonderful ep on "opera-europäischer phonoclub" with his sextet (recordings from 1954) with tracks like "st. louis blues", "bach goes to town", "undecided", "star dust" and "cherokee". i think they are also on the cd-box you´ve mentioned. when i speak of "commercial" i was refering to the link in the first post where they mentioned the "kriminal-tango" and other "pop" and "novelty-tunes". and they are of high quality, of course! keep boppin´ marcel
  17. he was maybe one of the last musicians who played with charlie parker (1949 paris). before he get "commercial" he made good jazz records (for example "perdido" from 1949 with flavio ambrosetti, ernst höllerhagen, toots thielemans, francis cuppieters, sonny lang and gil cuppini). i saw him a few years ago here live in concert. he was full of energy and you don´t saw his illness of parkinson (maybe because he was playing the vibes.....) sorry bad joke. but i was amazed that he played jazz (swing) and not his commercial hit tunes. rip hazy! keep boppin´ marcel
  18. good news, hardbopjazz, please informe us here if you know more! keep boppin´ marcel
  19. coming back to bird at the rockland palace: the first issue of the complete concert (it was not a club date but a large dance hall) was in 1996 by jazz classic records. all performances are with correctly issued for the first time, running at propper pitch & correct key. it was done by doug pomeroy. they used the two known different sources and put them together. so we have a "true" stereo version of bird playing "lester leaps in"! i don´t know if this 2 cd set is still on the market. keep boppin´ marcel
  20. thanks for the info, big beat steve! it looks good to have the whole collection at one place together! keep boppin´ marcel
  21. happy birthday, noj, and all the best to you! keep boppin´ marcel
  22. If you want to fool any site into thinking you're in the U.S., use Hotspot Shield, a free VPN download that will assign an IP address somewhere in Pennsylvania. I use it all the time when I'm traveling to access Pandora, Netflix, etc. thanks will try it maybe. keep boppin´ marcel
  23. cd 15: produced by aubrey mayhew. who is that? i was always sure it was produced by ross russell for dial. cd 30: it seems that not all the tracks are from carnegie hall, of that given date. keep boppin´ marcel
