  1. Nancy Green Martin Nodell (as in, Green Lantern) Martin Lewis Perl (since I am in geek mode...as in, Tau Lepton.)
  2. William "Bill" Bailey (aka Axl Rose) Hughie Cannon Sarah Vaughan
  3. James South John Herschel Herschel Evans
  4. There's ansolutely no reason you should be posting about Mr. Nessa with such contempt. He really has achieved a lot in jazz. By pointing out Mr. Nessa constantly mocks/shows contempt to the whole fetish I am talking about over "mastering"....I am showing Mr. Nessa contempt? Out of curiosity....by my calling him Mr. Nessa....was I also showing him contempt?
  5. Considering every post so far seems to be proving my point....I think this is a lost in translation thing. It's online after all. 1 I think JC is also a Dead BB Walking. And they also have/had a knowledgeable amount of people and a wealth of knowledge that has been posted on that site. 2. Where exactly did I say music isn't discussed on here? This place has half the "members" and has 300,000+ more posts. The music discussed is more pigeonholed (and don't get me wrong I love it as well), but still music is being discussed. Even if you take away all the political/sports and whatnot. 3. Did you know according to this site the most people online at one time is 691 on 03 June 2012 - 03:56 AM. I have no idea WTF? could have been so interesting at that time, but still. How many joined? How many posted? How many under even 40? How many will still be posting if they do post after a week? How many are even women? 4. This is a board made up of people that I think the next youngest to me is 25-30-years older and I am in my 20's. It's members who are my parents to Great-Grandparents age and they have been talking/arguing/insulting each other over 11+ years. There are threads which are thousands of posts long. Just how many "newbies" do you think are going to wade through all that?...and figure out why the whole duplicate thread thing is idiotic. God help if a duplicate thread might lead to people talking once again something they discussed previously (Oh, the humanity!) and maybe passing the knowledge on any "newbie" (if there ever really ever is another one) who would have never taking the time to go through the thousands of posts in the original thread. 5. Keep in mind I didn't even bring up the whole Homer Simpson response and fetish (there is no other word to describe it.) over "mastering"....at times I think the engineers/bits/formats are more important to some of you than the musicians or music. I have lost track how many times I have laughed at Mr. Nessa's comments on the subject. He just did it again today. Never mind just how much you're really hurting Jazz and new musicians when you're so occupied with reissues of things you probably bought 5-10 times already. I swear, I found in my Archeological digging a discussing about reversing polarity of the speakers to get the "right sound". That thread really might be the non-political Jump the Shark point I have found. 6. There are a great deal of younger Jazz fans, or potential ones....and you're really doing your best to make sure all this wealth of knowledge dies and/or isn't passed along. 7. Read my post(s) again and try to figure out why this place is a Dead BB Walking that might as well be completely exclusive & private....like the political forum.
  6. Very good set. Now out of print (very quickly went from released to out of print, the estate dropped its deal with Concord). . . not easy to find. I didn't know about this. I am glad I got my copy when I did. Really outside the box. Duplicate puns intended in that. Blue Notes - The Ogun Collection
  7. Since I figure I am going to end up being banned....I edited in some things since the original version. I am sure there is some rule somewhere that is against my asking this. While I actually understand why the actual subject at hand is an issue....the owner(s) (and at this point I think there is only one person that the original reason for this entire site is still going...and he doesn't post much from what I can make out.) and his/their families livelihood are affected by this place. Just looking in the Political discussions on this place makes him/them out to be a "Saints" for allowing it to have continued. Having said that.... Since the "moderator" brought it up....just how many "moderators" are actually are on this board? All I can make out at this point is there really is one judge, jury and executioner (I am sorry....what he does isn't moderating in any meaning of the word.) and he really enjoys that power....either that, or all the rest are completely incompetent, or just don't care....or don't act like something like a duplicate thread, or the other similar insignificant stuff out to be as some sort of felony. I honestly at this point don't know if there really are any other "moderators" as he makes out in the original post in this thread. P.S. There is a vast wealth of knowledgeable people on this site (even the "moderator" has a great deal of knowledge that he has and can pass along when it comes to the supposed main theme of this board.) but the stupidity like no duplicate threads is also why this is a Dead BB Walking. That's for those of you who really haven't noticed what is going on here....and I think there are great deal of you who actually do notice it. It's 2012!....and something as insignificant as duplicate threads are treated like a crime on here. P.P.S. Just how many actual "newbies" have joined and continued to be considered a "regular" poster longer than a week in the last 5-years for example? This is place that is so Dead BB Walking that I am giving it a 5-year window on the over a week. How many under the age of even 40? Leaving out me, how many under even 30? How many women of any age in the last decade? WTF? don't you just turn the entire board into a "Exclusive Secret Club"? in which the entire board is like the political forum...because you're really doing that if you do or don't know it. And it would probably be better off for the board's owner(s) financially that way. P.P.P.S. Just how much harm has all the stupidity that has gone on this board hurt this board's owner(s) financially?
  8. I had no idea who she was from the name. You can't have family from Chicago and have not heard of the "McGuire Sisters"....actually, one on particular. I googled her, and I know her from some Classic films that I have seen and liked. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn being the main one I remember the most. R.I.P. Unless I missed some irony - very possible for me - the A Tree Grows in Brooklyn Dorothy McGuire is a different person from the singer who just passed. I am sorry. Too young to know there was two well known Dorthy McGuire's. They both died not far from each other in terms of dates in September.
  9. I'd say a great deal is from the Mel Brooks "mode", but none of them have made me lol. Having said that, I will put on the best of Mel Brooks on before Airplane. What really works for Airplane is all the things you can quote from it which have become part of mainstream "Pop culture"
  10. Never liked the Borat character. Have you seen his Ali G character?
  11. I googled it...and while I don't think this is an "official" site. http://www.juliuslarosa.com/julie%27sstory.html
  12. I had no idea who she was from the name. You can't have family from Chicago and have not heard of the "McGuire Sisters"....actually, one on particular. 13. Another one that is non-jazz and recent. Ray Charles - Singular Genius: The Complete ABC Singles
  14. The thinking outside of the box. Pun intended. Jelly Roll Morton - The Complete Library of Congress Recordings Billie Holiday - Lady Day: The Complete Billie Holiday on Columbia (1933-1944) Bill Evans - Live at Art D'Lugoff's Top of the Gate (this one is new and and is outside the years requested.) Charlie Christian - The Genius Of The Electric Guitar Stan Getz & Kenny Barron - People Time - The Complete Recordings (also outside of the years.) Non-Jazz outside of the time period and/or recent Aretha Franklin - Take a Look: Complete on Columbia The Complete Stax (pick the years you like)
  15. A funny film but a literally laugh-out-loud film for me it isn't. Has anyone tried watching "Zero Hour!" before watching it? In it's own way....it's unintentionally funny.
  16. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OU7IKV21jZQ
  17. Laurel & Hardy were big long before even my Grandparent's time....but some of the funniest films I have seen involved them. My youngest sister who is only 4.5 (that half year is big to her!) can't get enough of The Music Box amongst others. For those of you who haven't seen this great site. It appears he pretty much responded to anyone who wrote to him. http://www.lettersfromstan.com/index.html A small correction it was Apt. 203. http://www.lettersfromstan.com/stan_oceana.html Dick Van Dyke's eulogy http://www.lettersfromstan.com/stan_eulogy.html
  18. Is anyone surprised with fanatics like this? I am curious. Since it's apparent that it's okay to in essence to say "Fuck all the French" on this board. Is it okay on this board for any other liked minded to say the equivalent with anyone of color, all those who are Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Homosexual,...maybe even say let's turn Iran and the 78 million people who live there into a grease spot (oh yeah, the same "fanatic" made it very clear he's all for that as well.)....or is it basically some sort of "Freedom Fries" thing which makes it okay to say "Fuck the 65 million people who live in France"?
  19. I guess the truth isn't allowed on here.
  20. Gonzalez has 6-years of his $154 million contract left. He's the only one of the three that is any good....but he's also 30. Beckett 2-years and $31.5 million. Carl Crawford - 5-years of his laughable $142 million left. You couldn't make that up! Even if the Red Sox eat half of that as part of the trade....it's still a disaster. Here are next year's potential Free Agents. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/compensation/cots/?page_id=177
  21. They might have a parade if they can just get rid of Beckett. haha http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/baseball/red_sox/view.bg?articleid=1061155579&srvc=rss
  22. While I think it's funny....that is a godawful trade for the Dodgers. Something McCourt would have made if he actually had any money. Red Sox fans might have a parade (I know several of my family (we still love them! haha) would be there!) if they can get rid of both Beckett and Crawford....and their bloated contracts. One guy who can't seem to pitch anymore and another who has been pretty much a bust since signing with the Red Sox....and that's before the Tommy John surgery, which will lead to at least missing half of next season.
  23. I think everyone was expecting a white wash, or something that passed the buck as much as possible. Instead it was something that could end up costing Penn St. $500 - $700 million or more. It's already cost $72+ million between the fine and cost of the investigation and 12-years worth of games. If Freeh screwed up the investigation....he definitely didn't help Penn St. in doing so. He ended up with a lot more information than the NCAA (which doesn't have subpoena powers) would have ever come across. Freeh also shared all that information with prosecutors.....which is really what the Paternos, Spanier and the rest are worried about....since the prosecutors and the victims attorneys might have never found about things if they didn't know what they were looking for.
  24. They officially banned him for life and vacated 14-years of his career.
