Yooooooooohooooooooooooooooooo. Good job!
-
Sounds good. It's really the technical support that counts. Screw the customer service once you're up and running again. You'll only hear from them when money becomes an issue.
-
Yes, but make sure you have the technical support you might need with your own server (unless you know your way around those well). As you have experienced yourself, crummy support can cost you a lot of nerves and a hell of a lot of time that you could spend with your wife ... or on your music ... or both! Good luck!
-
BTW: Although my previous post sounds like I hadn't read any of the payment etc. issues, I had. No matter what, the whole thing still sucks. It's no way to do business.
-
What kind of crummy outfit is this? I've never heard anything like it. Well, I have, but only about hosters who went off the air soon after. Moving a site is a sensitive issue and good hosters know that. I've NEVER heard of one behaving like these dudes and I STRONGLY recommend moving this site elsewhere when things have calmed down again (even though it is a pain in the rear end). BTW: I've moved enough sites, also very traffic-intensive ones, and usually it is the hoster or future hoster who has to go out of his way to make sure everything gets done right. Plus, they have to keep you informed about what's going on, they have to bloody well make the backups (and all of the ones I had made backups regularly during moves - and informed me about it; most even sent the backups to me at regular intervals upon request). Besides, I've never experienced a move that took longer than what, an hour at the most? And that was close to 60 GByte and only took longer because we had agreed to do it in the middle of the night, knew not many people were around and decided to do things a bit more slowly because time wasn't an issue. These guys suck. Suck. Suck. And that's that. NO customer should have to go through what you had to, Jim. And the company currently hosting this site is a disgrace to the business.
-
The hosting business is highly competitive. You just don't get the speed and stability anymore for the amount of money you had to pay for it a year or two ago. Too many people on the Net, too many sites, too many traffic-heavy forums, weblogs etc. utilizing God knows how many SQL databases although they wouldn't really need any. Too much crap on the Net altogether. If you share a server nowadays, you have to count on porn, geek and other forums plus leech sites hindering your own service. Bottom line: unless you have insider knowledge, you have to shell out more dough. What seems good and cheap at first more likely than not can turn to shite in a minute once one of those bandwidth hogs sneaks onto your server. That's the way it is. BTW, Jim: Have kept track of developments and aside from some outages, I've had a rather consistent speed over here, much faster than when O. went online after the move. Then again, I haven't been here as frequently as I would have liked.

Just got my Jazz Studio 1/2/3/4/5/6 and Jazz Lab 1&2 from Caiman (the Lone Hill Jazz releases). Wonderful stuff. Delivery was very fast (as usual), the booklets are not bad at all for that price, and I'm beginning to notice that these Lone Hill people are doing a really good job. I've got a bunch of their other releases and, so far, no dud among them. Recommended.

new artie shaw - super cheap Import Box

Maybe we could give it to my bearded, tap-dancing mail lady? It might help herget rid of her aggressions before she handles my stuff. Probably not though. I think she looks into the mirror every morning before listening to the music and ... any self-control goes out the window. -

I know, but thanks anyways. I got so much broken stuff from them lately that I've been cutting down on my purchases considerably. It's a pain in the neck to return CDs all the time. I got a Gillespie CD without booklet, about 20 CDs with those "plastic teeth" of the jewelcases falling out, completely busted jewelcases, one unplayable CD, etc. I'm getting SERIOUSLY tired of their positively shoddy packaging. And my bearded mail lady does NOT take care of anything she handles. I have the feeling she tapdances on the stuff. -

Found one for 9 Euro on eBay. Postage is very low, so ... a steal, I guess. -

Thanks! I'm off to do some online shopping ... again. -
I've seen Jan Lundgren live many times at various festivals up north. Great stuff, especially when he plays the small to smaller venues. I have some pics somewhere. I'll try to unearth them later.

Guy, do you know how it compares to the three RCA Jazz Tribune double-CDs? I've got volumes 1-2 (32 tunes covering 1938-1939), volumes 3-4 (28 tunes covering 1940-1942) and volumes 5-6 (32 tunes covering 1944-45). I'm mostly interested in the sound, if you have one of these to compare it to the box set with. Since there are obviously more recordings on the box set, I would probably get that one as well if the sound is somewhat comparable. -

HAPPY BIRTHNESS JIM ALFREDSON!

A bit late, but ... ... and all of that! Edit: And sorry about that speeding thing. -
Jim, thank you, thank you, thank you. P.S.: I travelled home for twelve hours from southern Poland yesterday. Next to the stupid blasting ringtones I had to listen to, I was surrounded (and I mean that) by people endlessly typing SMS messages at light speed ... all the fu**ing time. Click, click click click, click, click ... Add to that the guy behind me who was playing some ego shooter on his notebook, hitting the mouse buttons at 1280 bpm, it was completely insane. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Everyone staring into some communication or computer device - a nightmare from which I couldn't wake up. And it made me feel old. Then I got home and fired up my PC ...

Hm. I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of this one, but then I'm not such a big fan of as many Blue Note recordings as people are on this board. This session lacks character; there isn't much here to distinguish it from a pile of other recordings like it. It's solid, but that's it.
