  1. I always keep an eye out for Jazzwise magagzine's recommended releases (they seem to be few & far between lately ) one of the 2 this month is the limited reissue Of Franz Koglmann - L'Heure Bleue. It just has a couple of lines in the review that basically says 'it the epitome of Vienesse cool ' unfortunately i need a little more to go on before i part with my cash . Can anybody out there add a bit more info / recommendation.
  2. I like it - could have done with some sort of message board though
  3. (good for you!) All i have to do now is find some sort of web site with some really good inlays for it . You dont happen to know of any do you ???
  4. I got my replacement Bill Evans disc today . I couldnt resist it i ordered the Art Peppar box also
  5. How hard a decision is that ! If i HAD to choose my from my favourites it would have to be Marvin Gaye (a close call between him & Otis Redding). Love all the classic albums (whats goin on / lets get it on / I want toy etc ) but my favourite is definately Here My Dear . The songs of a man & a marriage in turmoil. Even the more commercial tracks like Chained - what a voice
  6. Mine's the cover of Albert Ayler's Love Cry , it happened to be the last CD i bought when i set up my avatar plus its a great cover that just seems to say JAZZ. I love Aylers music , but am by no means an expert & i'm gradually building up a collection of his titles. I've been in a bit of a Monk mood recently so i may be changing it shortly , now where were the posts explaining how to do it ...........................
  7. i dont want to sound as if i'm nit picking but i wouldnt have thought this would be a problem , who would have thought 2 of the first 4 releases would be by trombonists ? mgraham333 - the Moncur select is excellant - my favourite so far.
  8. Royal Flush (one of my firsy Blue Notes coincidentally)
  9. If my wife is lurking - definately not . If not i'm trying to convince myself i have anough to listen to for quite a while ( well at least till Oct / Nov when the new Conns / RVGs & the Miles box comes out )
  10. My Monks arrived today - luckily for me all was present & correct . The 2 Bill Evans arrived Tuesday so i'm very happy at the moment (just hoping the Coltrane set reappears ). I worked out today how much i saved in sterling - it unbeleivable , i compared prices weve paid to the HMV (uk) site HMV / We paid Bill Evans (riverside) £160.99 / e20.00 Bill Evans (fantasy) £120.99 / e16.00 Thelonious (riverside) £120.99 / e25.00 TOTAL (HMV) £402.97 (PAID) e61.00 in sterling = £43.88 so i have SAVED £359.09 with the 2 new selects arriveing today i dont think i'll be buying much for the next 6 months (yeah right). COUW - the inlays are great - YOURE THE MAN
  11. I was just about to sneak out of work early & they both turned up - lucky i didnt leave any earlier . I'm not back until Tuesday !
  12. Typical , who was lucky enough to be on the Mosaic site when they were updating the new releases page ? (i did tell you guys first , honest ) http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...ct=ST&f=9&t=911 And who hasn't received his copies yet ?
  13. Im still buying Blue Note , but I'm a bit frustated by their release schedule , its been a cople of months since any RVGs & Conns then this - Art Blakey - Indestructible (Blue Note RVG Edition) Aug 5 Dexter Gordon - Our Man In Paris (Blue Note RVG Edition) Aug 5 Grant Green - Grantstand (Blue Note RVG Edition) Aug 5 Sonny Rollins - Vol. 1 (Blue Note RVG Edition) Aug 5 Horace Silver - The Horace Silver Trio (Blue Note RVG Edition) Aug 5 Joe Henderson - Mode For Joe (Blue Note RVG Edition) Sept 2 Jackie McLean - Let Freedom Ring (Blue Note RVG Edition) Sept 2 Lee Morgan - Search For The New Land (Blue Note RVG Edition) Sept 2 Bud Powell - The Scene Changes (Blue Note RVG Edition) Sept 2 Wayne Shorter - Adam's Apple (Blue Note RVG Edition) Sept 2 Andrew Hill - TBD (Blue Note Connoisseur) Oct — previously unreleased 1969 session with nine-piece group — with Joe Farrell-af, ss, ts, ob; Howard Johnson-bcl, tu; Woody Shaw, Dizzy Reece-t; Bob Northern-frh; Julian Priester-tb; Andrew Hill-p; Ron Carter-b; Lenny White-d NEW Hank Mobley - The Flip (Blue Note Connoisseur) Oct NEW Lee Morgan - Sonic Boom (Blue Note Connoisseur) Oct NEW Charlie Rouse - Bossa Nova Bacchanal (Blue Note Connoisseur) Oct NEW Sam Rivers - Fuchsia Swing Song (Blue Note Connoisseur) Oct Larry Young - Mother Ship (Blue Note Connoisseur) Oct John Patton - John Patton: Mosaic Select - 3 CDs (Mosaic Select) ~Oct/Nov — with the albums "Along Came John," "The Way I Feel," "Oh Baby!," "That Certain Feeling" and "Understanding why dont they spread out the releases - it would be a bit easier on the wallet , i may be able to get more rather than cherry pick the best ones (which looks nearly impossible)
  14. the 2 new selects appear to have a date now on the jazzmatazz site Bennie Green - The Complete Blue Note Bennie Green - 3 CDs (Mosaic Select 003) May 20 — all three of his albums as a leader ("Back on the Scene," "Soul Stirrin'," and "Walkin' and Talkin'"), plus the 45's session and Ike Quebec's "Congo Lament" Randy Weston - Mosaic Select: Randy Weston - 3 CDs (Mosaic Select 004) May 20 — "Live At The 5 Spot" & "Little Niles" (originally on United Artists) — "Uhuru Afrika Freedom Africa" and an unissued session (Roulette) — "Piano a la Mode (Jubilee) — "African Highlife" (Colpix)
  15. the southampton show was great also (well i what i saw of it was i arrived at about 8:50 & they had been on stage since 8). Dave Gilmour's playing reminded me a little of Vernon Reid. strange they were not selling CDs where you were , they did in Southampton , Dave Douglas was signing copies also. I bought Freak In - if you enjoyed the show its worth getting. I'll definately have a MD at the ready for the radio broadcast.
  16. I'm convinced - I'll see you in Southampton John (I finally got round to buying my ticket today )
  17. yep i should have put the link up to save everybody a couple of seconds , but i was far too excited . http://www.mosaicrecords.com/upcoming_releases.asp

  21. just seen this posted on the jazzwise website www.jazzwise.blogspot.com Miles Davis' concert at the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970 is to be released on DVD. Up until now, only one truncated track from this performance - "Call It Anything" - has been made available as part of a compilation DVD/video featuring other artists from the festival. The rrp of the new DVD appears to be £15.99, and it's released on 16th June 2003. posted by Grant at 2:30 PM could be very interesting indeed! Anybody else heard anything about this release ?
