  1. I'm glad Dan mentioned CORN because when i first heard this CD its all i could hear but after five or six listens i can seem to hear the corn any more . This album definately grows & grows & grows on you with every listen . My favourite tracks are Motherless Child & I wonder . In fact theres only 1 track i dont particularly like (I Want To Be Ready). Thanks Dan for the album of the Week .
  2. yep i've bought a Chet Baker compilation compiled by MC & its got copy protected written all over it.
  3. I put Leeway on in the car on the way to work this morning - I think it was the first time ever i didn't mind being caught in a traffic jam!

    Larry Young Mosaic

I agree . i only became aware of Mosaic over the last year or so ago & it does seem a shame that unless I pay mega money there wont be a chance to buy this set just because of this . I'm sure there are people getting into jazz all the time - they will also miss out just because of when they discovered this music . I understand alot of people bought these sets on the understanding that they are limited , but a lot of people are missing out on some brilliant/important music.
  5. I heard a new track from the new Ellery Eskelin CD - "arcanium moderne" on the BBCs Jazz on 3 Friday night. The track was called 'For no good reasons ' . The trouble is I cant seem to find anything about else about it anywhere (except its on Hatology ) . Does any body know a release date ?? does anybody have any Ellery Eskellin recommendations?
  6. which may indeed turn out to be a bit of a problem.... (anyone care to set me up with a copy?) I'm struggling too , This is the only place I've seen it so far http://www9.gemm.com/c/search.pl?sid=36303....x=8&Go%21.y=11
  7. More news from the BBC today - Lewis set for Klitschko rematch The first fight was stopped on a technical knock-out in the sixth round World heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis says negotiations for a rematch with Vitali Klitschko are already underway and the fight is likely to take place on 6 December. Lewis beat Klitschko after gaining a sixth-round technical knock-out in Los Angeles two weeks ago. The Briton was then expected to turn his attention to a big-money bout with Roy Jones Jnr. Jones has captured the imagination of the boxing public after stepping up from the middleweight division to claim the WBA heavyweight title last March. But Lewis says a second fight against Ukrainian Klitschko is what really interests him. "I'm opting more for the rematch - I enjoyed that fight," he said. "They (Klitschko's camp) should agree to it. If not, then we will have to look at other options, like Roy Jones, or call it a day." One obstacle to a rematch could be the condition of Klitschko's left eye. I don't mind the rematch because I have more heart than him and I'm tougher than him Lennox Lewis The Ukrainian required more than 50 stitches to gashes above and below the battered eye that ultimately resulted in the fight being stopped. "We want our own independent doctor to go there and check the eye and if he will be available," Lewis said. Lewis failed to impress in the fight against Klitschko, weighing in at more than 256 pounds and displaying plenty of ring rust. Lewis's preparations for the fight were less than ideal. He acceped the bout on 10 days' notice after his original opponent, Kirk Johnson, was forced out with an injury. The Briton vowed to be better prepared next time. Lewis retains title "I will have a lot more sparring realising that's who I'm fighting," he said, before adding he would knock Klitschko out in five rounds. "I'm just going to give it to him from round one. "My jab is my big weapon and I'm going to open up the other side of his face. "He's lucky, he would have been knocked out. I don't mind the rematch at all because I realise I have more heart than him, I'm tougher than him and this time I'll be more prepared for him. "He was gone, he was holding on for dear life. I was dragging him around the ring. He was lucky they stopped it."
  8. They repeated the punch on Sky Sports & it seemed a very good punch & looked above board. Its unfortunate for Klitschko that he lost as he was ahead at the time of the stoppage but his camp are just going to have to accept the defeat & look for a rematch , im think Lewis will give him one as he seems qiute a proud fighter & he certainly looked terrible himself & will also have a point to prove . I have seen all of Lewis's fights and this was his worst performance by quit a margin (even his 1st fight against Rachmann). Maybe he is now too old or he was too overweight & took Klitschko too lightly . 1 things for sure they are both going to make a huge amount of money for a rematch.
  9. Chaney if you like the genre you may like it . Genrally speaking its an OK film - nothing more , I was a bit dissappointed as i normally like Danny Boyle films . If you saw & enjoyed Dog Sodiers you'll like it (it has less humour though) . The plot does make you raise an eyebrow in places towards the end . I dont think all thats much help but i saw it a few months ago.
  10. I voted no - it does need reform outside the ring theres too many versions of world titles & too many mismatches .
  11. to be fair this is why the fight was stopped- "I did not stop the fight because of the blood in his eye," said Dr Wallace. "It was because he was having to turn his head to see past the flap of skin hanging from the damaged lid which was obscuring his vision. His corner had done a remarkable job stopping the bleeding but if he couldn't see a person in front of him he certainly couldn't see a punch." Everyone on here has a valid opinion (well maybe not the dr being bribed one)but i just dont think its such an outrageous decision - it was hardly a slight nick. The press i have read today seem very critcal of Lewis's perfomance but not the stoppage . It looks like there is to be a rematch & I'm sure both fighters well be both alot more motivated (for different reasons) for it & it should make for a much better fight.
  12. I think the doctor got it just about right.
  13. I agree - if they do have a rematch Lewis should win - when he's had rematches with the two guys that beat him(again due to ill preparation & maybe taking opponents for granted ??? ) he certainly comes back with a vengeance.
  14. Thats a good shout - I'll second that.
  15. They appear to be back again (again) http://www.freshsoundrecords.com/catalogue...abel_id=103#top
  16. I'm just working my way through the new Ken Vandermark CD - Furniture music on Okkadisk . This doesnt seem to be a much publiscised release , the only place i've seen it mentioned is on Jazzmatazz as a June release. Its sounds very good on first listen - its 18 solo tracks on various instaments clarinet , bass clarinet, baritone sax & tenor sax . The first 13 are recorded in his living room ! the other 5 tracks are live . I'm only 9 tracks in ,but i definitely recommend it to any fellow Vandermark fans. (plus as an added bonus one of the more respected board members has a deal on Okkadisk titles until he goes away on his hols )
  17. Yep Ebay Germany is now the best bet for any titles that may have been missed -I managed to get the Trane box from there for about double the price the seller must have got it for - still a bargain though .
  18. Mine's a bit of an obvious one - Art Pepper , i recently bought the Galaxy box without knowing any of his recordings , i've only played the first 2 discs & I'm hooked . All the Mosaic selects have been new artists to me & i've thoroughly enjoyed all 4 boxes . I've just bought my first Sam Rivers & second Larry Young CDs - I definately want to hear more of these two artists.
  19. These guys obviously know how reliable Columbia release dates are !
  20. Check out the Carmell Jones Mosaic Select , Harold Land is outstanding on the discs he's on .
  21. i think it was Pfunkjazz - i often wonder what hapenned to him. & Reid who started an excellent thread discussing the best releases of last year .
  22. Now THAT's sacrilege!! 'Moments' Notice' is a classic. But not for me I'm afraid . Hey what do i know - I like the new Mosaic homepage
  23. Blue Trane has never done anything for me (& i love Coltrane)
  24. yes - my copy of ' the congregation' by Johnny Griffin says if i buy 10 of the first 12 Conns i can claim a free Blue Note watch !! All i have to do is make sure i claim before 31 July 1995 .
  25. i have the set & would love to comment on the growth of the artist but i haven't got past disc 1 yet ! I agree with what you say about Little Niles - its awesome , I'm not so keen on the live set . But i just want to take my time with the set & digest it slowly - but I'm finding it difficult not to be impatient & dive straight into the 2 other discs.
