Huh?? It's important to stop steroids, period. Everyone knows and understands they are harmful - including the ball players. You seriously think they don't already understand that, and that we all need to become more educated about steroids before we actually *DO* something about them??

interesting... Rocker says he failed MLB drug test ATLANTA (AP) -- John Rocker claims he flunked a drug test ordered by Major League Baseball in 2000 and that he, Alex Rodriguez and other Texas Rangers were advised by management and union doctors following a spring training lecture on how to effectively use steroids. "Bud Selig knew in the year 2000 John Rocker was taking the juice," the former pitcher said Monday of the baseball commissioner on Atlanta radio station 680. "Didn't do anything about it." Rocker was suspended for the first 14 days of the 2000 season by Selig for making racial and ethnic remarks the commissioner deemed insensitive. The penalty, originally set to cover 28 days, was reduced by an arbitrator following a grievance. "As part of the disciplinary process, Mr. Rocker was referred to the confidential Employee Assistance Program," Major League Baseball said in a statement. "Any test of Mr. Rocker would have been conducted by professionals who ran the EAP. Those professionals were obligated to maintain the confidentiality of the result and to use it in developing a treatment and education program for Mr. Rocker. Further discipline was not an option legally available to Major League Baseball at that time." Rocker said that doctors from management and the players' association, following a spring training talk with the Texas Rangers about steroids and other topics, pulled himself, A-Rod, Rafael Palmeiro and Ivan Rodriguez aside. Rocker was with the Rangers in 2002. "Look guys, if you take one kind of steroid, you don't triple stack them and take them 10 months out of the year like Lyle Alzado did," Rocker said the doctors told them. "If you do it responsibly, it's not going to hurt you." Rocker did not identify the doctors. Baseball did not have a drug-testing agreement between management and the players' union until September 2002 and did not have random testing with penalties until 2004. Gene Orza, the chief operating officer of the players' association, declined comment.

Those things you mention (which are all degenerative) are not even in the same ballpark as performance enhancing drugs - and you know it. <inserting random, non-value added blank lines> You've made that clear that you simply don't understand why performance enhancing drugs are bad. Many, many times.

I didn't take that as anything more than the shock of winning, and nerves, when he fumbled and dropped his notes. Quincy Jones seemed to have more difficulty bending over to pick it up than anything.

Was it possibly Makoto Ozone? I believe it was the aforementioned "Lang Lang".

Well, that was the first time I've heard Amy Winehouse, and don't think much of that "Rehab" song or her in general. Seemed like something of a poseur to me. edit - you have fine taste, FREE!!!!!!!!!!!

Herbie Hancock and someone (dueling pianos) doing Rhapsody in Blue with an orchestra. And they gave some props to Max Roach just now as well. The show is mostly pretty crappy though.

The Jim Hall Live! is very good, IMO.

GA - I certainly don't have a problem with you getting promo discs and reviewing them here! I like to here sincere opinions about music (rather than shameless promoting). My comment was directed more at the issue of recommending yourmusic in your review, than the review itself. I just wouldn't think the artist/label would appreciate that, that's why I suggested not sharing it with ECM - not your opinion of the music itself. What you write is up to you though. I'm one of those guys that buys at yourmusic, so I don't have a philosophical problem with music clubs. -

What live music are you going to see tonight?
Aggie87 replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Ok, no laughing, but i'm going to see Lynyrd Skynyrd and Blue Oyster Cult tonight. I've seen BOC 6-7 times, but never recently. A band I have fond high school aged memories of. Never seen Skynyrd before - I think there's only 2 original members in the band anymore. ....I don't think I have time to grow a mullet, though. -

Two additional comments here, the more I think about it. 1. I've read on this board a few times that BMG (and Columbia House) sales don't generate renevue for the artists/labels - in that sense they're kind of like promos. If you're reviewing these discs for ECM, I'd guess ECM's goal is to generate sales/revenue from your review, and that's why you're getting the free promo copy? It kind of goes against this"agreement" to recommend people wait and buy the disc from BMG then. I wouldn't share your review with ECM, I guess. 2. BMG doesn't carry all ECM releases, so there's no guarantee that they'll get this one anyway. And I'd hope that people outside the U.S. would enjoy this release as much as people in the U.S. - why wouldn't they? Not sure I understand that comment. -

I've never heard any of her music - is she worth checking out at all? There seems to be alot more hype about her lifestyle than what she's actually produced.

This one looks interesting, so it's going on my list. But as Bill and Pepe said, there are other trumpet/piano duets, including this Martial Solal/Dave Douglas, which is very good: -
