I got a fortune cookie today, with the following fortune: "Avoid the opposite sex today. Yeah, right!" lol Funny thing was, I had just earlier managed to tick off a female friend of mine for reasons I don't really understand. Maybe there is something to this fortune! Even funnier (to me) was the back side of the fortune, which typically teach you a word or phrase in Chinese. Today's lesson is "Still Single" (Mae yao jeh huan). Well yeah, I'm gonna be single if I'm avoiding the opposite sex!!! Anybody else get any entertaining fortunes?

I bet that made his day! <groan>

I was doing a member search (*NOT* looking for my member, thank you very much!), and noticed you can filter your search - there's a pull-down menu with All Members, Admin, Banned, Moderators, etc..... and "chuck". What's up with chuck? Are there that many chucks that we need a filter to search for them?

Happy Birthday to one of the great people on this board! Thanks for the intelligence, humor and friendship you bring here, bro. And thanks for doing your part to bring the Joy of Trombone to all those trombone babes too!

Stargazer liner notes: "Stargazer pays homage to Wayne Shorter, composer, saxophonist and one of the great innovators of 20th century music. It is the second studio recording of this group; our first one was "In Our Lifetime", a 1994 tribute to trumpeter/composer Booker Little. Wayne Shorter's open mind and creative genius have made him a constant presence on the forefront of composed and improvised music for four decades -- decades marked by rapid and radical changes in society, music, and art. His intense melodic gift, rhythmic ingenuity, harmonic sophistication and sublime sense of structure are some of the elements in his music that have particularly touched me. There is also an ever-present warmth and humanity in his music that I find mirrored in his writings and his approach to life and art. His music seems to ask us to abandon our hang-ups and preoccupations with stylistic limitations and other barriers to direct communication. When you look at the full range of his output it's truly amazing to take in the enormous breadth of what he has done. All of the many phases of his career have inspired my work and the compositions I've written for this album reflect that inspiration. It is with profound respect that I dedicate them to him. As for his compositions on this disc: "Pug Nose" is the earliest one, dating from 1959's Introducing Wayne Shorter on Veejay. "Diana" was recorded for the Columbia album Native Dancer in 1974 and again this year on 1 + 1, the duo recording with Herbie Hancock. "On the Milky Way Express" appears on High Life, released in 1995. Check out the originals or any of his many other recordings now thankfully available on CD. Also look for new works as Shorter remains an important and sometimes controversial figure in the art of music. -Dave Douglas, June 1997"

CHUCK, guess what............we are all going to DIE at some point in time.....whose going to be with you "before your death"...................... You know, I've never noticed your posts before, but you could try being a little less hostile, and more respectful of others?

I thought they were kind of under most people's radar this season too, Noj. Was surprised they were that high on the power rankings. Yao has been great this year, and losing him is gonna kill that team. Well, the Rockets beat the Mavericks last night, to push their winning streak to 17 now (5th since Yao went out). If they can beat New Orleans tomorrow night, their streak will tie for 4th best in NBA history. Pretty impressive! I still wonder how the loss of Yao will affect them in the playoffs, versus all the other West team's big men. Will be interesting to see, for sure! Meanwhile, the Spurs have their own 11 game winning streak going on, which seems like it may be their annual, rev-up for the playoffs thing. As a fan I hope they've got one more championship in them.

Good news - The Lightbulb Sun reissue (CD+DVDA) is available for pre-order from Burning Shed, and shipping 7 April. What's nice here (to me) is that in addition to the remaster/remix and the DVDA, they are including the original stereo mix. And the bonus material (from Recordings) is great too - especially "Buying New Soul". DISC ONE (CD) : 2007 stereo mix 1. Lightbulb Sun (5.31) 2. How is Your Life Today? (2.46) 3. Four Chords That Made a Million (3.36) 4. Shesmovedon (5.14) 5. Last Chance to Evacuate Planet Earth Before it is Recycled (4.49) 6. The Rest Will Flow (3.18) 7. Hatesong (8.30) 8. Where We Would Be (4.13) 9. Russia On Ice (13.05) 10. Feel So Low (5.22) DISC TWO (DVDA) : 5.1 surround sound and high resolution 24-bit stereo 1. Feel So Low (5.22) BONUS MATERIAL ON DVDA - Disappear 5.1 mix (3.40) - Buying New Soul 5.1 mix (10.26) - Cure For Optimism 5.1 mix (6.36) - Original 2000 stereo album mix / master The PT website mentions that for U.S. customers, they may be able to get it cheaper from Amazon when it's available there, due to the weak U.S. dollar right now. I don't think it's officially released until 21 April though...if that matters.

I don't think anybody's saying that.

It's a fun tune. It's also on the Beatles Past Masters Vol 2, I believe. Those two discs compiled all of the non-lp tracks by the Beatles throughout their career.

I'd say that's an opinion I don't share. I'd take a hefeweizen or an english ale any day of the week over a malt liquor. Much more art has gone into the creation of real beers than any mass produced malt liquor (or mass produced american "beer" too). But then again, maybe I'm one of the dorks you're talking about. -
From the Ballroom's link: "Personal donations can be made directly to the Scotty Hard Trust, payable to "The Scotty Hard Trust” and sent c/o Heesok Chang, 970 Kent Ave #401, Brooklyn NY 11205" I may make a donation as well, as I won't be able to make it up there - wish I lived closer to NYC and further from the end of the world!

Is your avatar Vincent Schiavelli or Jeff Van Gundy? -
Undisclosed medical problem = drug/alcohol relapse, according to many sources.

The only connection I see is that maybe it was one of the sites that we apparently raped and pillaged in 2003, before settling in here.
