  1. Ubu - Also keep an eye on this thread: Dallas and Austin Jazz Concerts
  2. A first for me - I attended a game that actually made Sportscenter's Top 10 Plays. The Corpus Christi Hooks (Astros AA team) game on Saturday night versus the San Antonio Missions (Mariners AA team) featured two outfielders crashing over the bullpen fence (which was maybe 4' high or so) attempting to catch a ball that would have been a home run. They crashed into each other and flipped over the wall, and the left fielder came up with the ball in his glove for the out. It looked far more impressive in person than on the replay, but still cool to see it make the Top 10!
  3. Caught Los Lonely Boys tonight, who played a show at the baseball field after the Corpus Christi Hooks game tonight. $9 got a berm ticket for the game, plus the show, not a bad deal. I like them more after seeing them than I did before - nice sound & groove, a mix of rock, blues, and hints of Tex-mex.
  4. I wonder how the player's union will react - do they support the players who have been suspended and appeal, or do they support the players who were the attempted "victims" and support the suspensions? They're sort of in a Catch 22 situation.
  5. I've become a DeAndre Jordan fan gradually, so rooting for the Clippers (behind the Spurs though!). I was disappointed that Jordan didn't spend another year or two at Texas A&M, instead going the "one and done" route. I think his development would have paid big dividends for the A&M program, and wouldn't have hurt his draft status and eventually big money contracts anyway.
  6. How did you like Gary Clark Jr? I've read alot about him, but haven't seen him yet.
  7. Happy Birthday Joe - wishing you a year of fulfillment!
  8. Alles gute, Niko!
  9. ...and? How was it??
  10. Metheny did a 3 disc recording with Derek Bailey previously as well.
  11. Opeth was fantastic! I really enjoyed their performance - very atmospheric, moody show, with a wide range of sounds/styles. Even my wife thought they were pretty good, and she wasn't sure what she was getting into for the night. Mastodon was cool, but I'm not very familiar with their music, only have Crack the Skye. There were probably more Mastodon fans at the show than Opeth fans, despite Opeth being the headliner (at least here in Corpus). They had one or two more melodic songs, and the rest were very heavy/aggressive. We missed Ghost unfortunately, got to the show late (after going fishing lol), so I have no idea how they are live. I think you'll love the show, Shawn!
  12. Happy Birthday Mark! All the best for the coming year!
  13. Thanks! As always, this has been and continues to be my favorite on-line hang. Quiet birthday this year - dinner with my kids and my wife. Not sure there's a better way to spend the day, anyway
  14. Yeah, but you could have that under the current scenario - the Rangers & Astros play each other every year as it is.
  15. Alles Gute zum Geburtstag von Texas!
  16. We were in Atlantic City in 2009, and got to watch part of the air show from the Boardwalk. That was a great place to watch a show! The Thunderbirds were there that year, dunno if they're always the headliner there or not. Fun time!
  17. I understand the logic of wanting 5 teams in the AL West, but I don't like Houston being the team to move. The sale of the Astros suddenly gave MLB the right to force the them to be the team that had to move. I've enjoyed the NL rivalries (such as they are) that the Astros have had. It doesn't seem right for them to suddenly be an AL team.
  18. Doh! Thanks, Dave! The P-38 was fascinating to watch fly. It flew in tandem with one of the A-10's there, as a tribute to veterans present. That was pretty moving. I also enjoyed checking the B-1 out up close. They had the payload doors open underneath, so you could look up and see how that was configured as well.
  19. Looks like my old Imageshack pictures aren't showing up anymore for some reason. Odd. (edit - relinked the images, hopefully they're working now!) Anyway, went to the Air Show at NAS Kingsville, TX today, and had a great time, despite the heat. P-38 Mustang: B-1 Lancer: A-10 Warthog: Blue Angel, F/A-18 Hornet taxiing: In formation:
  20. Just listened to Trans Europe Express (the '09 reissue) recently, and love most of it - except "Hall of Mirrors". I really dislike that track.
