  1. For me FB and this board (or boards like this) serve two different purposes, though admittedly there is some overlap too. FB for me is for socializing with family, current and old friends, and sharing experiences with each other, including pictures, statuses, places you're visiting etc. For instance I wouldn't have known anybody visited the Far East during some major weather issues recently, unless I were their FB friend. Here, it's more opened ended discussion about specific topics, and these discussions last and evolve over time. I enjoy that, and being able to go back and look up old information on specific topics, whether they're jazz/music related or not. I'm not at the same place as everyone else with their musical interests and tastes, so I still feel like there's information I can learn even if it's a thread from back in 2004. There's definitely the social aspect here too though, woven within most of the threads, and also the old (now defunct) Live Chat (Free's a dick by the way!), and there's definitely overlap between my friends here and on FB.
  2. Happy Birthday, Bob! Wish our paths would cross again!
  3. Closer to the first game, you should be able to see who's already made their picks. Once the games have started, it usually shows you everybody's picks and where they stand for that week, live. If you click on "Picks", there should be a choice to make picks and view picks. Also, this isn't a fantasy football league where you pick players and so forth. It's strictly a "pick the winner of each game, straight up" contest. So far, we have the following members this season: Aggie87 Connoisseur series 500 Edward jazzmoose Matthew Noj Soulstation1 vajerzy Van Basten II If there are disputes or if you somehow forget to make a pick, Vajerzy is the pool manager, and should be able to help straighten things out. He does a fine job!
  4. I'm ok with keeping your board, Vajerzy. I just made my picks already! And as a reminder, Dallas and the Giants play on Wednesday night, so everyone needs to get at least that pick in earlier than normal!
  5. Can you add me as Aggie874, SS? That is my name on the old Org football pool. It won't let me log in though. edit - Just talked to vajerzy on FB. He was gonna try to set up his pool again too. I dunno if we need two, wouldnt think so?
  6. Have my pre-order in on BOC already, the other box I'm thinking about getting is the Brecker Brothers, though I'm not enamored with the way the albums were produced, if I remember how they sounded when they came out. I will also breakdown one day and get the Woody Shaw. Matthew - Where did you preorder the BOC? On Amazon UK, it can be had for 48.01 Pounds shipped to the U.S., which equates to $75.80. Do you know of a better price? I'm debating whether to preorder it at this price, or just wait and see if it becomes a special offer at some point on either Amazon or Pop Market...
  7. I'm interested too, but I think Vajerzy has to reactivate our group on CBS Sports. He seems to have shut down his FB page, so I can't get in touch with him there I don't think. Will try.
  8. Roger Clemens signing with Houston indy league team Former Astros great Roger Clemens will pitch again in the Houston area. Clemens will sign with the Sugar Land Skeeters and pitch on Saturday, according to a source close to the team. The Skeeters, an independent professional team, are a far cry from the Astros or the Yankees. Clemens, who just turned 50 years old earlier this month, last pitched in 2007 for the Yankees. Clemens is one of the most accomplished pitchers in Major League Baseball history, but he also has created his share of controversy through the years. He most recently was cleared of perjury charges that he was accused of lying to Congress about steroid use. Rest of the article is at the above link...
  9. The Astros axed Brad Mills, after less than three years with the team, and promoted AAA manager Tony De Francesco to helm things. In a way I'm disappointed for Mills, as he never was able to work with any real talent, so he never had a real chance to field a competitive team. At best they were/are a group of AA/AAA caliber players. I'm not sure anybody will have much success with this team, given its makeup.
  10. In all the years in which you've maintained this stance (that PEDs didn't help Bonds to hit additional HRs), not a single person on this board has come forward and agreed with you. So by stating it again, and KNOWING nobody here agrees with you, you are simply trolling for argumentative responses. This is a statement of fact.
  11. Please stop making this claim. Nobody here agrees with you. Nobody here is going to be convinced that you are correct. Please keep this inflammatory (it's inflammatory because you know that will get a response from SOMEBODY every time you state it) comment to yourself, whether you truly believe it or not.
  12. Thanks Shawn. I'll put those on my list to check out. The song "Motorhead" is on this comp, it's a trip. I was only familiar with the Motorhead version before.
  13. Picked up a Hawkwind comp recently, and dig what's on it. I'd like to check them out further - any recommendations on where to start?
  14. Texas Tornados show, 8/11, Corpus Christi... Augie Meyers, Shawn Sahm, and Flaco Jimenez: Shawn guitar solo: Augie rockin' the squeezebox..
  15. Happy Birthday!
  16. Ha! I expect a few losses, particularly to LSU & Alabama. But we might do better than alot of the talking heads are predicting. I'm excited about it, either way (but sad to be losing the U.T. rivalry).
  17. I've been a 'Stros fan since about 1983 or so - got to meet Nolan Ryan and Mike Scott on the field once, even. They had some good players come and go - Glenn Davis, Ken Caminiti, Billy Hatcher, Kevin Bass, Curt Schilling, Steve Finley, Luis Gonzalez, the Killer B's (Biggio, Bagwell, Berkman). Got to the WS once in 2005, only to be choke big time against the White Sox. Haven't really done anything since then. 7 years of blah and counting. Some day they'll be ok again. Good, maybe. Great, doubtful.
  18. Mine was hyperlinked. I hadn't even thought to check that previously. I now am using a file I saved to my hard drive and uploaded as my avatar, so hopefully the problem won't come back. I'm guessing you're right - that tattoo hunter website got hacked in the last day or so, otherwise the error message would have shown up long ago.
  19. As mentioned in the other thread, I believe I was the guilty party, and wasn't aware of it. I changed my avatar, so hopefully the problem goes away for everyone. Sorry bout that, Ladies & Germs!
  20. I'm the guilty one I believe. I will change my avatar and hopefully the problem with go away. What's odd is I've had this particular avatar (maori shark) for a long time, over a year, and never received the warning I saw last night. And the warning (for me anyway) only occurs in the baseball thread, and only on my home pc. At any rate, sorry about that!
  21. I got the same message last night from my home computer, Al - but only from that one thread. I wonder if one of the images posted in the thread or something is from a malware site?
  22. My Astros are 36-73, dead last in Major League Baseball. For the second year in a row. There's maybe one player on the team that would even be tradeable at this point (Jose Altuve), but I believe he's who they're hoping to build around. It's gonna be 3-4 years before they're even competitive if they're lucky, and oh by the way they're also switching to the AL, involuntarily. So the need a DH. Don't really have any bats on the team. Nor any decent pitchers. Baseball isn't much fun to watch for an Astros fan. Bring on football!
  23. Kevin Kolb's first pass in the game tonight was an interception, lol. May be a long season for the Cards.
  24. Happy Birthday, friend. Wishing you nothing but positive things in the year ahead.
