how can I shrink a picture to less the 100kb
Aggie87 replied to vajerzy's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I do the same - I prefer uploading things to Imageshack and then linking to them, so they can be seen "full size", instead of as a smaller attachment that is uploaded directly from your hard drive. -
Brilliant Christmas Gift Ideas for Wives

I decided to get my gf an e-reader this year too, settling on the Sony Touch. I actually think I like the Barnes & Noble "Nook" more (plus they seem to have a larger selection of material than Sony), but it's not available until February 1st. Though I figure if she opens this and then prefers the Kindle or Nook, we can always exchange it. -
Happy Birthday!!

I took my 8 year old son to see Avatar tonight, wasn't quite sold out but very full. We were able to see the 3D version, and it was INCREDIBLE, visually. Well worth the extra buck or two for the 3D experience. It's not gimmicky, but just gives everything some subtle depth throughout the whole flick. The storyline is pretty similar to Dances With Wolves, but it's not distractingly bad, as I'd worried, too. Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, and Giovanni Ribisi all do fine with their roles, as does the guy who plays the head of the military force. If anyone's on the fence about this one, it's worth it for the visuals alone - the planet (Pandora) is incredibly detailed, and it's like you've been dumped into a Roger Dean album cover.

The dvda of Red sounds fantastic! Highly recommended - it is probably my favorite of the first 3 dvda sets (Court, Lizard, & Red) to be released. Though the music itself is probably my favorite of the three as well. There's also some great video of the Cross/Wetton/Bruford Fripp lineup from French TV in March 74, performing Larks Tongue II, Night Watch, Lament, and Starless.

Bengals WR Chris Henry got into a domestic dispute with his fiance today. Apparently while she was leaving their home, he got into the back of the pickup truck she was driving, and then at some point fell out as she drove off. He's now on life support, supposedly only until his mother gets there to see him, then they'll pull the plug. Sad day for his three children and mother. He had some troubles in his past, but seemed to have turned a corner for the most part in the past couple of years...part of which he attributed to the fiance.

Can you tell me where on the screen you see the link? I'm not seeing it anywhere. Click on your name on the top right. It should give you a pull down menu, one of the choices of which is for your messages.

On your profile page there are Find Posts and Find Topics links that do that...

I may be mistaken, but the View New Content link should just provide you a list of the topics that have received new comments since your last visit. Meaning it will vary in size depending on how much activity there's been since you last came to the O board. The "Today's Active Content" link near the bottom of the page is similar to the old board's feature, and seems to pull up a list of all the threads that have had activity in the past 24 hours or so. If I'm understanding it right.
-
Ah, I get it - you only get new content that's timestamped later than your last visit. So, when my computer stops and shuts itself down (which it did at about 7.30 this evening) the board thinks I'm not interested in the stuff I hadn't got around to reading before it shut down. Bummer. MG There's also the "Today's Active Content" link near the bottom of the main forum page (in one of the dark blue bars), that appears to give you the threads that have been posted to in the past 24 hrs or so - different than "View New Content", which as you say only offers up what is timestamped since your last visit.

If you enjoyed the previous duet disc with Syvlain Luc, the one released earlier this year, "Summertime", is well worth picking up. Some very nice treatments of the title track, So What, Wave, Spain, Green Dolphin Street, and other standards. He's already got another release that's just come out, Gipsy Trio. Gonna have to check that one out as well.

I think it means Blue Note is branching out beyond music now.

It's been replaced by the "View New Content" link at the top right. Not the orange button thingy next to it, just the words.

Look to the lower right of the screen and you will see a green plus sign and a red subtract sign. You can vote a post UP (you liked it) or DOWN (you didn't like it), as on Digg, Reddit, Slashdot, etc. Sometimes called Karma. That appears to be a feature that hasn't been activated yet, I'm guessing. I clicked it and it said I'd reached my quota (of zero I guess) for the day. I second (actually, first!) this recommendation! The red and green buttons aren't part of the multiquote feature - they are for "reputation" I believe, as mentioned above. To do a multiquote, you click the multiquote button next to the two or more posts you want to quote. Then when you've selected those, go to the bottom of the page and click the Add Reply button, and all of the quoted posts will appear in your window.

One thing I DO like that seems to have changed, is that there is no longer a 30 second delay between Viewing New Content clicks. That was annoying - usually I did that when there was a glitch or hangup, and the new threads didn't display right away, so I'd click it again, and then get a message saying I'd have to wait 30 seconds. Also - is there a place on the forum when you first come on that shows if you've got new PM's? Or do you have to go to your profile to check?
-
I guess this means that I have to turn off the sound on my computer every time I "view new content" I don't think there's an MP3 that plays when you click on the "View New Content" button, Hans (?). There is one in this thread, however. Unless I'm missing something?

Minor thing, but can you turn on the member's location by their name/avatar? I associate people with locations, and it helps me remember who's who, particularly with names that are used by more than one person.

Not gonna name any names coughvajerzycough, but somebody forgot to make their pick for tonight's game. It's probably ok though, cuz everyone else picked Pittsburgh, who are losing 13-6 at the start of the 4th quarter to the lowly Browns.
