  1. Interesting avatar there, Matthew!

    Best wishes for 2010.

  2. I think that's an option (i.e. $$) on most models. Probably only true audiophiles will really need that though.
  3. Merry Birthday and a Happy Christmas!
  4. Texas A&M had been playing some pretty good hoops this year, and was ranked #19 going into last night's game vs. Washington. It was a back and forth game until senior Derrick Roland went up for a shot and came down funny, breaking his tibia and fibula. It was a gruesome break, though luckily the cameras didn't catch the actual moment. They said the sound of the snapping could be heard throughout the arena, and Roland's Aggie teammates were literally crying for at least 5 minutes afterwards. They lost their composure, and were never able to get back into the game. Roland was the heart and soul of the team, which was previously projected as a #5 seed in the NCAA tourney. I don't know if they'll be able to rebound from this or not. Roland was the team's best defender, and the best defensive player in the Big 12. You can see the bad angle in his leg in this picture (which I will remove if it bothers anyone)...
  5. Diana Krall - Quiet Nights (deluxe cd/dvd) Porcupine Tree - The Incident Bruce Hornsby - Levitate
  6. As we all know, the world will end on 21 December, 2012. That's three years from yesterday. Anybody got any exciting plans for the three remaining years we have left?
  7. While watching the G-men dominate the very bad Redskins tonight, I came to the conclusion that Tom Coughlin was the model for the goblins in Harry Potter.
  8. That view is not universally held.
  9. Have listened to about half of this so far, and really enjoying it, Jim!
  10. Exciting end to the Steelers/Packers game. Big Ben threw for over 500 yards, and the last TD was a beauty - the WR was falling out of bounds and got both toes down, as the clock ran out. After the review, play was upheld, they kick the extra point and win the game.
  11. Wow - the Cowboys beat the Saints tonight, 24-17. I'm still in shock. The Cowboys came out aggressive and never let up, which is sorta new for them. Ware and Spencer each had 2 sacks on Brees, and he fumbled twice as well. Plus Brees threw a pick on a long bomb that cost them a score. Romo looked solid, and has had a great December, which is new for him, too. I don't know if the Saints were off, or the Cowboys just outplayed them, or both. But regardless, the Saints' undefeated season is over, and the Cowboys are 9-5. Hopefully they can use the energy from this win and carry it into the remaining two games.
  12. I do the same - I prefer uploading things to Imageshack and then linking to them, so they can be seen "full size", instead of as a smaller attachment that is uploaded directly from your hard drive.
  13. I decided to get my gf an e-reader this year too, settling on the Sony Touch. I actually think I like the Barnes & Noble "Nook" more (plus they seem to have a larger selection of material than Sony), but it's not available until February 1st. Though I figure if she opens this and then prefers the Kindle or Nook, we can always exchange it.
  14. Happy Birthday!!
  15. I took my 8 year old son to see Avatar tonight, wasn't quite sold out but very full. We were able to see the 3D version, and it was INCREDIBLE, visually. Well worth the extra buck or two for the 3D experience. It's not gimmicky, but just gives everything some subtle depth throughout the whole flick. The storyline is pretty similar to Dances With Wolves, but it's not distractingly bad, as I'd worried, too. Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, and Giovanni Ribisi all do fine with their roles, as does the guy who plays the head of the military force. If anyone's on the fence about this one, it's worth it for the visuals alone - the planet (Pandora) is incredibly detailed, and it's like you've been dumped into a Roger Dean album cover.
  16. The dvda of Red sounds fantastic! Highly recommended - it is probably my favorite of the first 3 dvda sets (Court, Lizard, & Red) to be released. Though the music itself is probably my favorite of the three as well. There's also some great video of the Cross/Wetton/Bruford Fripp lineup from French TV in March 74, performing Larks Tongue II, Night Watch, Lament, and Starless.
  17. One for Allen:
  18. Bengals WR Chris Henry got into a domestic dispute with his fiance today. Apparently while she was leaving their home, he got into the back of the pickup truck she was driving, and then at some point fell out as she drove off. He's now on life support, supposedly only until his mother gets there to see him, then they'll pull the plug. Sad day for his three children and mother. He had some troubles in his past, but seemed to have turned a corner for the most part in the past couple of years...part of which he attributed to the fiance.
  19. Can you tell me where on the screen you see the link? I'm not seeing it anywhere. Click on your name on the top right. It should give you a pull down menu, one of the choices of which is for your messages.
  20. On your profile page there are Find Posts and Find Topics links that do that...
  21. I may be mistaken, but the View New Content link should just provide you a list of the topics that have received new comments since your last visit. Meaning it will vary in size depending on how much activity there's been since you last came to the O board. The "Today's Active Content" link near the bottom of the page is similar to the old board's feature, and seems to pull up a list of all the threads that have had activity in the past 24 hours or so. If I'm understanding it right.
  22. Ah, I get it - you only get new content that's timestamped later than your last visit. So, when my computer stops and shuts itself down (which it did at about 7.30 this evening) the board thinks I'm not interested in the stuff I hadn't got around to reading before it shut down. Bummer. MG There's also the "Today's Active Content" link near the bottom of the main forum page (in one of the dark blue bars), that appears to give you the threads that have been posted to in the past 24 hrs or so - different than "View New Content", which as you say only offers up what is timestamped since your last visit.
  23. If you enjoyed the previous duet disc with Syvlain Luc, the one released earlier this year, "Summertime", is well worth picking up. Some very nice treatments of the title track, So What, Wave, Spain, Green Dolphin Street, and other standards. He's already got another release that's just come out, Gipsy Trio. Gonna have to check that one out as well.
  24. I think it means Blue Note is branching out beyond music now.
  25. It's been replaced by the "View New Content" link at the top right. Not the orange button thingy next to it, just the words.
