  1. Astros displaying fine 5th place form tonight. Gonna be a long season for them, I think.
  2. If you're referring to Steven Wilson's "Insurgentes", it's very good. Stylistically it covers alot of ground, but touches on all the aspects of music that he likes and plays in his various bands (Porcupine Tree, No-Man, Blackfield, Bass Communion, IEM). The Special Edition (with the extra tracks on Disc 2) is sold out though, and was never available at retail - only through SW's website. There is a 2 disc version that's available through stores, but it's got the normal album on Disc 1 and a DVD-A of the same material (plus a video documentary thing) on disc 2. edit - I think there is a Japanese release of Insurgentes that may have the bonus tracks actually, if you're willing to pay bigger bucks.
  3. Fantastic album, Shawn! It's got a companion album titled "Deliverance", which is heavier and more typical of Opeth's sound. Steven Wilson produced both of these, along with Blackwater Park, as Use3D mentions. Ghost Reveries and Watershed are also both well worth checking out, if you like this sort of music.
  4. We Swedish-Americans even speak English funny, so I am sure you're correct, Hans!
  5. Trygve Seim/Frode Haltli - Yeraz
  6. I have both of those, bought them in spite of Botti's presence. He is actually decent on these, in a completely different context than his normal music. I agree with Jim in that he's got chops.
  7. Dear Lord.
  8. I think alot of our native English speaking board members could be a little more sensitive to this point, as well as being appreciative that so many people from so many different countries even make the attempt to communicate in English on this board in the first place. There's no way on earth I could communicate on any German, French, Swedish, Hebrew, Italian, Dutch, Spanish, Japanese, or Portuguese jazz (or other) websites, as effectively as people from all around the world do here in English.
  9. All your MP3 are belong to us!!
  10. Half Price Books: It is annoying to have to wade through their three or four legitimate used jazz CDs when you only want to look at hundreds of gray market Spanish CDs and other cheapo rip-offs. LOL! That ratio is very true at my 1/2 Pr Books too!
  11. Flurin - If you haven't already, check out "En Route Live" or the Trio Beyond recording on ECM for some great (IMO) recent Scofield. I find myself pulling these out (and some of his earliest stuff) more than alot of his BN and Gramavision era recordings nowadays. I also like the MSMW "Out Louder" recording, both the studio and live disc, but that may not be your cup of tea. I saw Scofield tour on the Ray Charles project tour, and thought he (and the material) was better live than on that record. Too many guest stars I suppose. I'm curious about the Piety Street record though, and hope having a vocalist doesn't take the focus off his playing too much.
  12. Did a spambot infiltrate Jim's account?? LOL
  13. Happy Birthday!!
  14. Trombonist Bill Reichenbach is playing at Texas A&M Kingsville tomorrow night, with the school jazz band. Might take a drive over there.
  15. ...you mean Malady?
  16. Looks like Billy Gillispie could be gone from the Kentucky job possibly as soon as today. He went from beloved at Texas A&M to traitor overnight, when he left to take the Kentucky job. I think he could have coached the rest of his life at A&M if he'd wanted to, and defined the program there. I've heard rumblings that he could end up coaching back in the Big 12 somewhere, possibly Texas Tech.
  17. That was on the BN board. One of our regulars said something pretty ugly about her and the band, and it significantly contributed to the shut down of the board there.
  18. This one: Or this one:
  19. Might not be compatible with Works. That is the potential problem with the Open Office solution that I suggested above, too. You would think MS would allow Works and Office to be compatible.
  20. I'd agree with this. We're locked into Windows where I work (and with our partner firms, etc), and since I occasionally bring work home with me, it makes the most sense to have a system that easily can handle the work. Plus, I want my kids to be comfortable with Windows, so they're not a step behind everyone else when it comes to job hunting later in life. Unless they are in the small minority who are lucky enough not to have to work for someone else.
  21. Well, that's kind of nasty, and both post more about jazz than I do... Seriously? I've never seen either post on a music thread. Maybe they haunt different threads than I do. Weizen pops into hardbop and TOJC/mini-LP threads, while Berigan likes to drop in on swing/early-jazz threads (not a whole lot of those here, generally speaking). They're both pretty passionate jazz fans--I can attest to that. I agree - and it seems almost mean spirited to attack them like that, especially when there are certainly posters on the other side of the political spectrum who post almost exclusively in the political forum.
  22. I'm pretty sure we've done this exercise more than once before, but it's difficult to search for ECM in thread titles here. Here's Your 10 (or 5, or 3) favorite ECM albums. More ECM threads listed in that one: Favourite ECM-ECM New Series Album ECM to begin reissues ECM reissue thoughts
