Caved in and picked up this title, despite my general aversion to some of the other material these companies put out. Very nice recording though! In addition to the two quartet performances (Belgium & London), it's got 4 tracks from Hamburg with the Martial Solal Trio, and Johnny Griffin sitting in on "Blue Monk".

If the Magic can hold court and win out at home, Game 7 could be interesting! I'd rather see a 2-2-1-1-1 format than a 2-3-2 though. I think the former is a bit more fair.
-
I don't have a problem with it as a creative list, at all.
-
That's a nice list, but of questionable value. When it's including things like "Kind of Blue", it's sure not limiting itself to one genre. Hard to compare a list with open boundaries to one that tries to limit itself to prog.

Happy Birthday Bertrand - thanks for everything you contribute to the board!

You coulda stopped right there.

Pays Tribute? Check. Overly Imitative? Check.

It's hard to tell - it lists as 2 cds, but it is also described as a box set: "Turn Out the Stars: Final Village Vanguard Recordings [bOX SET] [iMPORT]", which is the same title as the domestic edition, minus the import tag. I ordered this SHM set a while back, but have my doubts whether it will ever appear through Amazon. They had the same kind of offer for the recent Kinks SHM box set, at a great price, and that got cancelled by Amazon for the people who ordered. The same thing could happen with this one.

Miles Davis - Very Best of Warner Bros (1985-91)
Aggie87 replied to Aggie87's topic in Recommendations
Found this in a Half Price Book Store today, not a bad comp for this era of Miles. It is a UK release only (I think?). Liner notes by Wallace Roney. -
I'd never heard of it until this thread actually. Kobe apparently coined it himself. I don't like self generated nicknames - reminds me of Michael Jackson declaring himself "King of Pop"... which he is most certainly not. He lives in AZ. That address by his avatar is the address for Sanford & Son I believe.
-
Is that a new nickname? I've never heard it in all the years Kobe's been a Laker.

It seems to cover all eras more than many lists I've seen, which have focused mainly on the 70's. I don't know if it's a list that was generated by the readers in a poll, or if it's the magazine's list.

Actor David Carradine found dead in Bangkok
Aggie87 replied to porcy62's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
RIP David. I always thought he would have made a great Thomas Covenant, if those books had ever been turned into movies. -
I think I want to follow the French Open as long as Simona Halep is competing:

New Freddie Hubbard coming out on Blue Note
Aggie87 replied to ghost of miles's topic in New Releases
One odd thing to me about his deleted post in this thread is how critical he was about people interested in Freddie Hubbard's music, when (according to allmusic.com) he was the "creative director" for Hub Art: A Celebration of the Music of Freddie Hubbard. -
organissimo coming to Rochester, New Hope, & Philly

Are you guys brave enough to stay with Ron again?? -
I don't think Facebook will help you, to be honest. It's not a place where masses of people go to look for concert information. There are sites for specific bands on there (including our illustrious hosts), which is good for getting word out for their shows - but typically that's for people who are already fans of the band. Unless the musicians you are employing already have Facebook pages, in which case you/they could advertise on their pages, to their pre-existing fan base.

I wonder what this could mean..... I think it's like: Murphy's Law Beethoven's Fifth Foucault's Pendulum Schrodinger's Cat ... Eicher's Dilemna

I'm looking forward to this one! I'm assuming "Dress" = Drew Gress!

Would you be willing to trade that for a brand-new, unopened Wolf Biermann CD? He is the German Bob Dylan, after all. We've been through this before, you know this isn't a fair trade. How about the Rivers Mosaic plus $100 for the one Biermann cd?

In addition to the ones Bev mentioned, the following are also coming out: Jun 30: Andy Sheppard - Movements in Colour Louis Sclavis - Lost on the Way Aug 4: Surman/Abercrombie/Dress/DeJohnette - Brewster's Rooster Aug 25: Stefano Bollani - no title yet Anouar Brahem - The Astounding Eyes of Rita Chick Corea/Gary Burton - The Crystal Silence Kashkashian/Olivero - Olivero/Mansurian/Steinberg
