  1. Thanks for the two reviews guys. Sounds like it might be worth a punt.
  2. I love James Salter's writing and this, his latest, is as good as anything he's written. A wonderful novel.
  3. Not seen that before so perhaps something IS coming. Like you I always find out about releases after the event even though I do usually buy directly from Hazel. It would be nice to have a website for all things "Ogun"... and Cadillac also. For instance I know nothing about this recent(?) release which I came across by accident on Amazon... ... can anyone help?.... it's on Cadillac, BTW.
  4. Weren't the tracks with Woody Shaw added to some of Woody's Muse CDs? I realised this after it was too late .... I sold them all after I got the Mosaic box! Are the 'non-Woody' tracks worth having?
  5. Yep, that one's included. In fact, I have it as part of my next order with CDJapan.
  6. I enjoyed it because it is so different from his usual stuff. However, like you, I'm not a great fan of the organ playing (Perri Lee?)
  7. As well as being excellent-sounding replacements for many of my "tired" albums I've also picked up a number of completely new (to me) releases as well: Here are some I can recommend: and a couple of "crooners".....
  8. Yes, a classic indeed. It's a great pity that his follow-up "Another Time/Another Place", also on Muse, has never been reissued on CD.
  9. That's a shame because I've enjoyed the sound on all the recent Atlantic re-issues I've bought. However none of mine have been vocals, so perhaps that's why. I have found though that the latest batch of Japanese Enja reissues are a tad harsh but, again, they're perfectly listenable
  10. Thanks for that etherbored. Like you say, some hoary old chestnuts there! Not sure I'd class those Archie Shepp's as "rare groove/funk" but the Stanley Cowell probably falls into that category. I might treat myself to that one.
  11. Good grief ! ... better than the 'other' collection, perhaps.
  12. Mine arrived a few days ago too. I've only had time to play it once but it sounds fine, much better than my previously poor rips. The booklet promises more than it delivers, I'm afraid. Apart from the initial summary page, it consists solely of the liner notes from each of the albums, so no new information there. Still, at least the notes are in a readable typeface, not like the usual "impossible-to-read" ones shown on most CDs. All in all, an excellent compilation.
  13. More than most.... he makes a living from it.
  14. I know many of the FMP albums are now available as downloads at 'destination-out' but are any of them available as CDs? Leaf Palm Hand was reissued by jazzwerkstatt in 2008. It's possibly OOP now, but new copies are still available. Amazon UK DE Thanks for that, erwbol. How about any of the other, non-Cecil, FMP albums. Have they ever been available on CD, do you know?
  15. I know many of the FMP albums are now available as downloads at 'destination-out' but are any of them available as CDs?
  16. Just noticed that Ace has a couple of Mainstream re-issues out: I think the Harold Land has already been mentioned here but the Chico Hamilton is new to me. Can anyone say whether it's a "getter"? Oh, and I see they have re-issued this Duke Ellington as well...
  17. Amongst the usual SACD re-issues for November showing up on CDJapan today, there are a number of other releases that look interesting: Richard Beirach - Meshuselah [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)] Dollar Brand / Don Cherry / Carlos Ward - The Third World / Underground [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)] Jack DeJohnette/Time & Space [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)] Badal Roy - Ashirbad [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)] Elvin Jones - Live In Japan 1978 2 in 1 [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)] Clint Houston/Watership Down [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)] Eddie Gomez/Down Stretch [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)] Charles Tolliver Music Inc./Live In Tokyo [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)] Charles Sullivan/Genesis [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP)] Kalaparusha Maurice McIntyre - S.T. [Cardboard Sleeve (mini LP) Has anyone heard any of these and can comment on them?
  18. The music sample on the website sounds terrific.....a MUST-HAVE, I reckon.
  19. "Sonny Stitt", "Inter-Action" & "Mr Bojangles" are still available through HMV Japan, currently at a reduced price (906 Yen) http://www.hmv.co.jp/en/search/advanced_1/category_1%2C2%2C3%2C4%2C5%2C7%2C9%2C10%2C23%2C24%2C50/formattype_1/keyword_sonny+stitt/sort_datedesc/target_SEARCH/ Thanks for that, romualdo. Unfortunately I've given up on trying to buy through HMV Japan; their website seems unable to accept an order from me. Luckily I already have those three CDs - I got them through CDJapan when they were first released.
  20. Confused?.... moi.........
  21. What's the UK edition of "Sonny Stitt" that you've got MG?
  22. Thanks guys, I wondered whether it was a compilation. I guess I'll just have to wait until the next time the complete albums get released again in Japan.
  23. Does anyone know which of Sonny's albums are on this CD?
  24. How strange to hear Peter Fincham's voice again after all theses years and to hear his reminiscences on how Mole Jazz went from boom to bust. Absolutely fascinating ....thanks so much for finding & posting it, sidewinder
  25. The one by him that I always come back to is this:
