  1. Good to hear he managed to get over to the US for that. When I saw him in Leeds on the same tour he looked very frail and played the whole time sitting down. Still sounded good though.....
  2. Yes, it's nice but not one I play a lot. Much of the music on it is available elsewhere...like here:
  3. Wow.... great news! Thank you Jonathan! PS any chance you can sell pre-release copies to members of the board?
  4. Yep... that's the one to get!
  5. Back in the day I too read all of his books ... not sure I would enjoy them as much now. Anyway one book about him that is definitely worth reading is "The Letters of Evelyn Waugh" edited by Mark Amory. It shows him as funny (particulary in his letters to Nancy Mitford) witty and suprisingly kind when writing to his family. Used copies probably going cheap on Amazon......
  6. I don't know whether this helps but when I was looking for this a few years back I e-mailed Eremite records direct to find out whether they had any copies available and I was offered one for more than I was willing to pay. Anyway, I eventually found one on Discogs ... but it was still pricey!
  7. Yes, that's exactly my problem too!
  8. Well, that doesn't sound very promising. I DID e-mail them but have had nothing back yet. If they're not interested in selling outside Japan I wonder why they have an English version of their website?
  9. Yes, I order from CDJapan all the time and everything works fine. Unfortunately they tend to sell out of new releases very quickly; HMV Japan seem to have quite a bit of back stock that I'm interested in. This is SO frustrating......perhaps I'll e-mail them to see whether they can help.
  10. I'm having difficulties in ordering through the HMV Japan website and wondered whether anyone can help me. I've set up all my details, put my order in the cart but am stuck on the "Change/Register Delivery Address" page. Whatever I do I can't get the system to accept my address. I seem to recall that someone here mentioned a similar problem a while back... Anyone got an answer?
  11. I've been playing my Affinity CD containing both of Charlie Mariano's Bethlehem albums today and I wondered whether anyone can comment on the sound of the equivalent Japanese re-issues. The problem with my Affinity CD is that whilst Charlie is up front and very clear, his backing group is way back in the mix and sounds very muddy. The music on my CD was licensed from Charly Records so is hardly likely to be the highest of fi! Anyway, I'm not sure whether the two Charlie Mariano albums were part of the release programme earlier this year and the information on the two albums showing on Amazon at the moment states that one is a "Toshiba" release and the other is a "Japanese Import". Both albums are also available as "Solid/Bethlehem" releases at HMV Japan, but like someone else mentioned earlier in the thread, I too cannot work out how to place an order with them. So, how do they sound and which version should I go for?
  12. ... to the gif graveyard?
  13. I just wondered why he re-issued it with a new catalogue number if it's exactly the same as Emanem 4107. Anyway, I can live in hope, can't I? Are they remastered ? Martin Davison at Emanem has confirmed that the Paul Rutherford is a straight reissue "with just an improvement to the colouring of the photo".
  14. I just wondered why he re-issued it with a new catalogue number if it's exactly the same as Emanem 4107. Anyway, I can live in hope, can't I?
  15. I thought the Gheim CD is a straight reissue of the previous CD release - that's great if there is more material I'd actually been looking for a second hand copy of the earlier OOP CD From what I can tell, the original CD issue of Gheim had additional material from the first (cassette?) issue. The CD was 76' long so they couldn't really add to it. Maybe someone should write to Martin Davidson... Yes, it looks like it's might be just a straight re-issue of the 2004 CD although the description on the website is a bit confusing. It should become clearer once it becomes available in Sptember.
  16. Three new re-issues due out in September: http://www.emanemdisc.com/news.html Steve Lacy's "Cycles"... already mentioned in a separate thread here: plus Spontaneous Music Ensemble - "Oliv" plus extra tracks. This is the first official CD release of an album that came out on the Marmalade label over 25 years ago. Paul Rutherford - "Gheim". Although this has already had a CD release by Emanem, this version has addtional music on it. IMO both these two reissues are "must haves".
  17. ... our time will come.....
  18. When you find them, let me know and I'll house them for you I remember I used to have these two: ... and listening to the sound samples they don't sound too bad. I probably sold them to Mole Jazz in London.........
  19. I don't know whether this has already been posted here but Destination Out have quite a few of the FMP reissues available as downloads... http://destination-out.bandcamp.com/ Looking at the album covers I realise that I must have bought quite a few of them back in the day. They aren't really my cup of tea but I honestly can't remember what happened to them....oh dear!
  20. Thanks for spotting the record samples, Mike. Like you I'm undecided....I'll add it to my "Perhaps sometime in the future" list.
  21. Where the hell do you go to get bits of Mosaic sets? MG I've seen random Mosaic disk at Half Priced Books, of all places. It seems incredible that people should flog half a Mosaic box, whether on e-bay or Half Price Books, or anywhere. Surely the value (musical and financial) is in the set? I've got the Joe Pass PJ Mosaic and only play the Les McCann albums that were included, but I'd never consider selling the other CDs, even thou I don't like them. MG Perhaps the dog ate the other discs... or the burglar dropped them in a rush to get away. There's bound to be a story.....
  22. Seems to be download only. It's on iTunes, Spotify, and Amazon UK. F Ah, that's why I couldn't find it... thanks.
  23. I have the couple by Quincy Jones and they sound OK. Minimal information but what do you expect for that price! I see there are two sets by Ahmad Jamal available for pre-order at CD Universe at the moment. His complete recordings from 1951-1962. BTW have you got a link for the Johnny Griffin set, I can't seem to find it?
  24. It's a boot. Obviously,..... but still..... BTW I don't think Amazon sells "boots" per se... I presume the recordings are just out of copyright in the EEC.
