  2. Wow.....I didn't even know there was ONE Mamadou Doumbia........
  3. That's what happens when you play too much Paul Bley......... Oh yes, and it IS a lovely tune.
  4. Better get those elbows sharpened.........
  5. Sad news....I loved her in "Five Easy Pieces".
  6. The last time he was here I guess he kind of went off on the owner of Jazz Corner in the thread about the forums closing over there. They had had a huge falling out years ago and I guess Chris still hasn't been able to let it go. Haven't seen him around since then, so he probably said "fuck it" at that point. Does anyone know if he is on Facebook? He has his own blog, "Stomp Off": http://stomp-off.blogspot.nl/ Not much posted on there recently.....only two this year.......
  7. Yes, I have those too and they DO sound OK. The problem I have with the Lee Konitz is that it sounds......piercing and is unpleasant to listen to. I wouldn't say it is particularly loud. I just wondered if there was some software around that would show the dynamic range of the recording to see whether it has got a boosted treble or whatever. In the meantime I guess I just won't play it...
  8. I've been playing my Japanese Verve (UCCV-9329) CD of Lee Konitz's "You and Lee" this morning and find the sound to be very harsh and unpleasant. Does anyone one know whether this is yet another remastered release that is a victim of the "loudness wars" or is it just my hearing that's going? PS is there some simple software that I could use to show the dynamic range of the CD?
  9. My mother's favourite piece of music...bless her.
  10. This arrived this morning and it's much better than I was expecting with Don Weller in excellent form. Nice rhythm section too. We had some great drummers playing in London then. Tony Marsh plays on this one but what about John Stevens, Alan Jackson.... and was Phil Seamen still around then? I don't remember ever seeing this when it first came out in 1976, so this is a very worthwhile reissue.
  11. Whew....he's back in the box...
  12. Yes, thanks for the link Ken. It DOES sound nice. BTW does anyone know how the search engine works on the CDBABY site? I thought I'd check to see whether the new Ethan Iverson/Lee Konitz album "Costumes are Mandatory" on Highnote was available for download. I tried searching for "Ethan Iverson" and "Costumes are Mandatory" and got what looks like a bunch of random hits. Am I missing something....?....it's been known!
  13. Amazon Sorry, I should have said "LOSSLESS" downloads...I only ever listen to music via my CD player.
  14. Stonking hot and sunny this morning......wonderful!
  15. Bob Boilen's office @ NPR. http://www.npr.org/blogs/allsongs/2013/07/30/206985844/the-old-tiny-desk-gets-demolished Thanks, Blue Train.
  16. I seem to recall that I downloaded a few Highnote releases from somewhere (legally!) some time ago but looking at the Highnote website (which is a mess) I can't even find details of this release on it. Does anyone know of a legal site where I can download this?
  17. Nice.......but sooooooo serious! Anyone know where this was shot?
  18. Aah, Sunday evenings were never the same when that finished.
  19. Nice and brown....."Builder's Tea".
  20. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59GYrzT4Los http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59GYrzT4Los Ah, so you post the link directly into the blank area rather than post it using the "link" symbol.......I see Thank you, Mr Sangrey.....and you too Mr Kart.
  21. Me also. For lots of very personal reasons this is my my favourite version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59GYrzT4Los PS I know this has been covered before but how do you imbed pictures from YouTube? So why does mine end up looking like this then?
  22. Larry, can you tell me how you managed to imbed this youtube video please. I'm going nuts trying to work it out.
  23. It's just like posting an image, only you use this icon instead of this one And it seems to only work with YouTube videos, and then only if the link's not yet been used in the thread. That icon doesn't seem to be available now....it's not the "My Video" icon, is it? What do I need to do now to imbed a YouTube link?
  24. I didn't know Van had lost the rights to "Moondance" which is a shame because it's a wonderful album.
  25. Thanks for the heads-up, TTK. It looks like it might be a good read so I've ordered it.
