  3. Yes, but unfortunately I don't have the Vick or Willette...used to but sold them a few years ago. Sorry bro' Anybody know the name of the Blue Note Reissue series from the 90's that had the white spine's? For the life of me I can't remember what they are called. Kenny Drew's Undercurrent was one of them.
  4. I've sent Johnny a couple of requests. (I reserve the right to blast him on his politics once I get the cd/cds safely in my hands!) Until then, I shall exercise due discretion... Turns out I had everything you wanted conn. But us liberals got to stick together so I sold them all to The Red Menace.....but, I haven't sent them out yet. So... Are you now or have you ever been a member of the Republican Party?
  5. I'll put one up tomorrow.
  6. The law, as described in the film was to make it illegal to transport women accross state lines to engage in prostitution to "profit" the person that took the woman out of state. In other words "pimpin'" out of state. Hence, the term "White Slavery". Jack Johnson surely was not guilty of that. Exactly, Cali beat me too it. All in all, I liked the film. But what the hell was Crouch in it for? I never knew he was a boxing expert or an authority on anything for that matter. Even in jazz circles (which he's primarily known for) he is considered a lightweight intellectual/provocateur at best. And where were all the boxers? Did he even have a boxer in the film? I'm sure he could have found more insightful (if somewhat less high profile) people than the talking heads he used. It's almost like Baseball, Jazz and Jack Johnson were the same film with the same crew. Certainly there are others that know more.
  7. Got to generate some cash in a hurry. I have a lot of Connoisseurs,Verve Elites and other hard to find stuff. I'll offer all my OOP's for $15 each. Send me a PM of what you're looking for and I'll let you know if I got em'.
  8. Nope, 'tweren't that! She hates country music! B-) Anyway, as with all teenagers, this is how she feels TODAY. Who knows what tomorrow will bring? (You'll find this out yourself if you're having a girl, BTW! ) Nope, we're having a boy. I'll just have to beat liberalism into him.
  9. She must have gotten caught up with the wrong crowd. All it takes is one bad apple in her homeroom class and before you know it she's riding around in his pick-up truck, wearing his cowboy hat and listening to Young Country...Toby Keith and Darryl Worley have done more irreparable damage to the youth of America than Alice Copper, Ozzy Osborne and Marilyn Manson combined.
  10. Thanks Al. And you're right, I'd still love em' unconditionally. Frankly, I'd prefer he do drugs and vandalize the neighborhood like a normal teenager than cross over to the dark side and become a Republican, but hey, you never know. Maybe we should name him Alex P. Ewing? And now for the update... We went back to the hospital yesterday and Melissa ran through the gamut of tests and her vitals all look good, so they sent us home again. Now it’s back to the waiting game just like before. Melissa has had a horrible pregnancy with Hyperemesis, Pregnancy Induced Hypertension and Preeclampsia. I’m very weary but have no room to complain with Melissa going through all that she has. Anyway, I’m back at work today after missing all last week and after submitting my Paternity leave. It’s proving to be a harder readjustment than I thought. I really don’t want to be here, but it’s better that I work now and save the time off for the baby and Melissa. Thanks again for all the well wishes and I’ll be sure to keep all of you posted when Melissa goes into labor for real.
  11. Hello everyone. My 'still pregnant' wife and I are back home for a little while. The hospital staff has been trying to enduce early labor for the past 5 days due to my wife's Pre-eclampsia, but none of the techniqes used seemed to wanna work. Her vitals gradually stabilized so they sent us home for the weekend. Melissa (my wife) is fine, the baby is fine - we just have to go back for a check in on Monday and take it from there. I've slept in a hospital room for the past week, and let me tell ya', it sure is good to be back home, if only for the weekend. thanks for all the well wishes (both public and private). This place really feels like a extended family. We have are Roger Clintons and Neil Bush's, but what the hell, doesn't every family? I'll try to keep you posted if I am near a internet connection. Strength!
  12. See you suckers on the other side. Vaya Con Dios!

  14. I didn't know he played guitar as well. Comedic genius as far as I'm concerned.
  15. He's pitching for the Yankees now...I had no idea he played guitar too! Him and Berniw Williams can do duets together.
  16. I like their "Edgard Varese for the Quiet Times" collection.
  17. Tsunami Kills Few Animals in Sri Lanka By GEMUNU AMARASINGHE, Associated Press Writer YALA NATIONAL PARK, Sri Lanka - Wildlife officials in Sri Lanka expressed surprise Wednesday that they found no evidence of large-scale animal deaths from the tsunamis — indicating that animals may have sensed the wave coming and fled to higher ground. An Associated Press photographer who flew over Sri Lanka's Yala National Park in an air force helicopter saw abundant wildlife, including elephants, buffalo, deer, and not a single animal corpse. Floodwaters from Sunday's tsunami swept into the park, uprooting trees and toppling cars onto their roofs — one red car even ended up on top of a huge tree — but the animals apparently were not harmed and may have sought out high ground, said Gehan de Silva Wijeyeratne, whose Jetwing Eco Holidays ran a hotel in the park. "This is very interesting. I am finding bodies of humans, but I have yet to see a dead animal," said Wijeyeratne, whose hotel in the park was destroyed. "Maybe what we think is true, that animals have a sixth sense," Wijeyeratne said. Yala, Sri Lanka's largest wildlife reserve, is home to 200 Asian Elephants, crocodile, wild boar, water buffalo and gray langur monkeys. The park also has Asia's highest concentration of leopards. The Yala reserve covers 391 square miles, but only 56 square miles are open to tourists. The human death toll in Sri Lanka surpassed 21,000. Forty foreigners were among 200 people in Yala who were killed. We're just out of tune folks.

  19. I posted this in another thread, but it seems like no one has of yet offered a review of the DVD "The Cry of Jazz" with Sun Ra. Here it is again: The thing is a joke. It's this group of whites and blacks sitting in somebody’s living room discussing race & and how it relates to jazz. It felt like a bad episode of the Jefferson’s with Stanley Crouch as George. The black brother schools the chronically un-hip and irritatingly defensive white guy. The sexy white girl is of course diggin' the heavy brother and he goes off into this pseudo-intellectual rant about how jazz is dead. In between you get tantalizing glimpses of the Chicago Sun Ra band circa 1959. Every time John Gilmore starts to take off, this guy chimes in with some more outdated rationalizations about aspects of jazz symbolizing some self-righteous idiocy. If this "intellectual" would have simply filmed the Ra band or did a documentary about them, the film would be a triumph. But instead he decided to lecture the audience about how "the changes" in jazz represent the never-ending cycle of pain that the "Negro" cannot escape without killing jazz…or some shit. What a bummer.

  21. First one is great! Second......not so hot.
  22. OK, it's not jazz but here goes.... I used to not like the Rolling Stones. Growing up I was a Beatles guy all the way (still am really) but once I moved out, got away from my brothers who also didn't like the Stones (still don't) and began to listen with a more open and independant mind, I found the Stones to be pretty fucking kick ass. Especially Begger's Banquit and Goats Head Soup. Now I listen to the Stones all the time, especially when I'm cleaning the house. They are great pick-me-up music! And Keith Richards guitar sound is one of the truely original things in Rock, period.
  23. Great line-up especially for 1957! Bill Evans, Gene Quill and Dannie Richmond
