My prediction, Yanks in 7. Marlins will go belly up tonight, Wells will tear em' up. Splitsville in NY, game 7, Yankees.

I agree with you, Ghost. I heard that he used to endorse some feelings of jealousy towards Beck, for all of his talent and success, etc... but I don't think he had any peers as a songwriter in that demographic. There is a band called the Delgados whose songs are terrific, though. Dark, lyrical, and strike a chord in me similar to that from E.S. . I'm up in Portland, and there is a really heavy vibe in the air among musicians, hipsters, and the like. It's so fucking hard to imagine a grizzlier way to take yourself out. Anyone that I know that met and hung out with him said he was funny as hell, sensitive, basically a sweetheart of a guy. It's hard to see him go.

Wow! A Mogie autograph! That's a rare one, indeed. It almost looks like he put "To Jim", was he f&%@ed up? Either way, that's cool. I have Ted Curson's, Tom Harrell's, and one poster from Telluride the JazzFest. that is signed by Cedar Walton, Billy Higgins, James Moody, Mulgrew Miller, Steve Khan, Brian Lynch, Harold Land and Kevin Eubanks. I'd include it all here if I owned a scanner, digital camera, or what not.

I believe that I was mistaken, as this baby is still in print. Oh well...maybe I'll impulse buy it. -
I thought I remembered someone looking for this title around here, but I may be wrong. Anyway, I put it on hold for a few days, if anyone is looking for a used copy, $8.00.

I guess Elliott Smith stabbed himself today, and committed suicide. I just went on the Sweetadeline site and there was an obituary written for him. I can't fucking believe this. So young, so talented, kind... .Fuck.

This one is going for $11, including shipping to a U.S. address. Max Roach, Wynton Kelly, Curly Russell. Paypal, checks, m.o.'s, $ accepted. Not an easy find around these parts.

Sports teams that you REALLY HATE!!!!!!
doubleM replied to Matthew's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I know that it's completely arbitrary who one chooses to dislike in sports, especially when you can support it with some truths. But to say that the Stockton and Malone-era Jazz were a bunch of floppers and whiners, p-u-l-l-e-a-z-e. Look at the evidence that there was more to these future Hall of Fame players than that. Let's take Stockton. #1 All-Time in assists and steals, Mr. Clutch. His records won't be touched, in our lifetimes. And Malone... well, he will probably be the all-time leading scorer. That's all because of flopping and whining? Maybe 3-4% of his points came from free-throws after he "flopped", but the ref's could have called it that way. It's part of the game. These guys weren't self-congratulatory on or off the court. They played hard and well every game. Sure, they didn't set records in rebounding and/or blocked shots, but in every other major category, look at the stats. Why not just up and try to categorize Coltrane as a "skwalker" (sp.?)?!!! -

Hatred? Well, I don't really hate any teams, but there are some I enjoy seeing lose. These include the Dallas Cowgirls, L.A. Lakers, and any BYU teams. I love the Utah Jazz, NY Yankees, Pittsburgh Steelers. I love reading about others' pathetic disdain for the Yankees. Let's give 'em another title to resent! -
I'll take the Chets! Sent you a PM. MM

Wow. That fan interference in the 8th was indeed unfortunante for the cubs. It must be a bitch to have to have someone step in and fuck things up when you're trying to do your job. Now an error by the cubs, a run... It's now tied. Damn glad I'm a Yankees fan. But, go Cubs!

Why I Don't Go To Bars (except to work)

Just imagine her sans wig and makeup. -
I guess I'm some of both. I collect mostly jazz, but buy many other types of music. Maybe 5:1 . I am also a huge fan, and love to play jazz, play along with the cd or lp, etc.. Sometimes I get a little O.O.C., buying impulsively, and compulsively. This never seems to be inversely proportional to my enjoyment of the recordings though, even if it takes a week to get around to playing them. I think that the feeling of unrest that comes with wanting but not having a certain title or some artist's entire discography--is where it feels like "collecting". Buying just to buy (to me) is like self-medicating. I do that on occasion, too... but I'm working on it. At least I'm not into collecting sushi or something! IOW, I get something out of it that I'll enjoy for years, possibly decades.

That one looks to have been "redesigned to avoid ambiguities" to me. If Borders had thought that this was an emergency-grade situation, they might have acted sooner. I'd rather pay 15-20% less at an independent store for the same cd most any day, for many reasons. Borders has some good sales, promotions (legit), and of course books, though...which grab my interest on occasion. The Borders' mark-ups on music seen higher than those on their other products. Higher than just about any store where I live. That's why I don't feel guilty or cheap for using a poorly worded coupon there. I didn't take the time to cross-analyze the store's past coupons, but if I did, I don't think I'd know if it was "fishy"...because I'm not "in the know" about coupon modification. Anyway, it was fun while it lasted.
-
I agree w/ $.01 of the above. The alterations to the coupon itself were probably done by Borders or Dell, or an appointed 3rd party. Now, to "make a fuss" or to be obnoxious , might well contribute to a more restrictive/draconian coupon policy. If one politely points out that it doesn't refer to any cisco books, it likely will result in them opting to please the customer. I think that they would first try to redesign their coupons to avoid ambiguities. But they really don't have any way of differentiating between those who got the coupon from Dell, or from some other circuitous route. They might try to find a way to figure that one out. So--I think it's pretty a "slippery slope" assumption to say that they'll do away with the whole program, because discounts (coupons) bring business. They still make a profit and sell products, everybody is happy. My $.02.
