Yeah...right. And Kenny G.'s record sales make him superior to Phil Woods.

There is an indy store here in Portland that has it for pretty cheap. If you want me to scope it out for you, PM me.

Freddie Hubbard's "Minor Mishap"
doubleM replied to connoisseur series500's topic in Recommendations
They're all alts' I do believe, so I guess it comes down to how much you like "Dedication", and how much you care about hearing those other 5 takes. There isn't a discernable difference in sound, that I could hear. I owned 'em both and sold my copy of Dedication to someone on this board. I like the cover art on the Freddie. -

I'd like to see "Tony Fruscella" (S/T) come out, too. His live recordings have left me wondering what kind of studio output he had in him.

I'm still waiting for my order to go through from that establishment that undergroundagent recommended. Based on what I've read below, I can afford to be somewhat patient. I think it's my Woody Shaw completist tendencies that led me to purchase this. I will report back when it comes.

best Zappa tunes to play in jazz contexts
doubleM replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Musician's Forum
I think "Blessed Relief" is a lot of fun to play, certainly more-so if there is a guitar in the band. It's a great trumpet blowing vehicle. -
I love the tune "Mona's Mood" (Heath?) on one of his BN records, I think it's "The Thing to Do". His ability to economize his phrasing has moved me. For setting up a pre-coital mood, I've found "Solo Monk", "the Gentle Side of John Coltrane", "Chet", and "Blue Ballads" to all be . Oh, and "Jack Daniels" doesn't hurt, either. -_- . Except sometimes if you add , you might see .

Sent a P.M, in your general direction, Deus. I like Ed Thigpen. Not only is he a M.F., but my old boss and pal is friends with/ and studied with him. Right now I'm doing a series of "Babes", Ursula Andress, Carrie Otis, Audrey Hepburn, Monica Belluci, etc., and some local (Portland) girls. Maybe I'll put 'em up in the "Babes" thread once I get them scanned. B)

I hesitate to post that my Mosaics have always arrived in about 3-4 days. Just because I don't want to jinx it. That's too bad, though.... about the Airborne Express shenanagins. Jazz recordings, too. Rather odd!
-
Yeah Deus, I have one that may be of interest to the jazz world. It is: jazzdrawings.com . I post and sell my drawings of jazz cats there. More to come. MM

Sounds intriguing. Is it in-print? I'm just too lazy to do the homework. It's probably one of about 5 releases w/ Lee on them that I haven't heard/don't own/need to buy.

It was a toss up between Filles and Nefertiti. Both desert island for me. I chose Filles for track 1. Can't get enough of that solo by Wayne.

Geez, Brad... for someone who gripes about Yankees fans' arrogance, don't you think you yourself are sounding a wee-bit arrogant here? First of all, a general point : You can't buy a title! This year proved that, as did last year. You might "buy" part of y'r roster, which is an investment. Highest payroll doesn't insure a championship (see Portland Trailblazers) . I'm merely defending Ghost O', here, not speaking for him. Ghost might not agree with each assertion made by the Yankees bashers, and certainly those that are antiquated (more applicable way back when)...but does that mean he "doesn't understand what sports following is all about"?. It's about something different to everyone, isn't it? Is it "your way or the highway", Brad? There are some points on each side of the argument worth listening to, and nobody is denying the existence of any rivalries. At least try to be objective!
-
Conundrum being in the recursive argument that pits the Yankees success making them great, against the same measure (success) making them despicable. If you can get a lifetime Yankee fan to say, "O.K., let's join you in hating the Yankees because of the sheer force of your hatred", you will have solved the puzzle.
-
Well, that's a drag if that's true and how it actually went down. I doubt if it was a decision by management, but whoever botched the script shouldn't be proud. I've never been to a championship game, on that level.
-
Vajerzy--Do you mean "script on the message board" at the Stadium? If so, is it customary for a team to congratulate them in that fashion? I mean, they have press conferences and such for one team to acknowledge the "good game" of it's opponent...but I haven't heard of it happening marquee-style, or ceremoniously on the opposing field. But yeah, playing "New York, New York" by Sinatra in that situation is gauche, trite, and embarrassing.
-
Well, isn't this a conundrum? 26 World Championships can serve as a catalyst for hatred, or a testament to greatness. I think that as long as there are some well-grounded fans (see Ghost), who focus on the more fundamental aspects of a team (it's players abilities, attitudes, character), the debate will remain lively. Ill will and heavy hearts (hatred) have been around longer than the game of baseball. I don't expect to see that change. It's those peoples' ulcers. But I do think it's important to remember that there are some Yankee fans all over the planet who are O.K. with other teams' success.
-
I may have missed the real Marlins fan's post. My apologies and Kudos to you and your boys. They rocked all through the playoffs. As to what Ghost wrote, I don't quite get the hatred, either. If you've ever been to a sports bar, and seen the type of posturing and machismo that often occurs in those places, it puts in to perspective that some people (probably unconsciously) obviously work out some of their issues this way. I don't know if this (Yankee bashing to this embarrassing of an extreme) is an example of the same phenomenon. But it could be argued. There's nothing wrong with some angst, I just think that it gets misplaced sometimes. About the Marlins next year, that will be interesting to see. With the full compliment of healthy players, these guys could have a great team in '04. And Yanni will be in the house!
-
Well, The Marlins were impressive. Beckett, Conine, Pierre. A damn good little squad. Yankees couldn't hit the ball. It must have been like porn for a lot of you guys. Except I doubt if there are any actual Marlins fans posting here, so I'd imagine that routing against the dominant team (instead of for y'r own teams-- who also watched) must be like getting sloppy seconds. Oh well... it was a good post-season. I drowned my sorrows last night, and now I'm looking forward to watching some hoops.
-
It's all a matter of opinion. I know that as a Yankee fan, I'm less objective--and a Yankee hating person might also not be too objective. I've just never bought into that analogy, that's all. I know that argument has been made for decades, and I can understand it clearly enough in it's historical and current context--and it's still (in my opinion) not airtight, or certainly not without fallacy and sour grapes reasoning. And to argue against routing for a team that "seems destined to win", well... that doesn't exactly have a foundation in logic. We're talking about this year's teams and this year's World Series. (Go Yankees!!!) Not "fate". That is where, to me-- this whole debate gets tiresome. Curses, ghosts, fate, and other biblical and/or homunculoid precepts. You should accept that some people aren't going to sit back and say, "well, I guess someone said or wrote that at some point in history, so they must have been (and still be) spot on!". There is a business side to sports, and it's another way in which the Yankees have succeeded, are succeeding, will succeed. If you can't accept the free enterprise side of organized team sports, then maybe you should watch tennis, or golf. Besides, it's late October... isn't it all about wins and losses at this point? Enjoy the game.
-
"Routing for General Motors"? Let's see...who routes for automobile manufacturers? I sure as hell don't know anyone who does. Go Toyota! You don't exactly have stadiums of people comparing autos off of the production line. Baseball is a game, folks. Routing for Yankees = routing for G.M.?, now that's a mouthful of scat!!!
-
Well, my prediction went belly up. I didn't intuit that Wells would get hurt. But I wouldn't and won't rule out the Yankees. All these Marlins fanatics should keep their erections in check, 3-2 is still a series. Back to NY.
