  1. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIM! ! !

    Lenny Tristano?

I just got the ProperBox, and really like it. He wasn't really big on space, but I still don't find his lines to be mechanical. The live stuff is quite exciting. What a motherfucker!
  3. I had to go w/ Lansing, for all of the afore-mentioned reasons, plus another---I used to live in Michigan and haven't been back since '72. I wouldn't be opposed to another choice, though. St. Louis would be pretty damn fun!
  4. Hey Jim D., That would be great! I'll pm you w/ my address, in case you need it. Thanks, MM
  5. Sent you an email JSngry.
  6. I'd love to get in on this action, too... Jim. E.M. or PM me if you have time, and thanks. MM
  7. Hey Ghost, Have a great b-day!!!
  8. I had a gig and couldn't tune in, but it looks like the Jazz really took it to the Lakewhores. Oh well. in Utah it woulda been a different outcome.
  9. Hey JKrow, I posted a similar question here, and got some other members riled up because I (jokingly) asked if she might or might not already be in hell. It stopped just short of creationism. It was weird. But a useful search word would be More, Helen More, widow, etc.. MM
  10. Dough! Deep, Man...I was wrong to "goad" you, and I'm sorry. I hadn't read the rules that thoroughly and wasn't even thinking that posting that would offend you. I mistakenly thought that the "I Stay Bombed" moniker thing lent itself to a certain amount of free reign when it comes to joking about booze. If you were wondering, I like to hit the sauce at times, and...well, let's just say that among my friends we tease each other about our excesses in order to feel a "gestalt" (I know, an overused term) from our commonality w/r/t these things. But I don't know you well enough to take those liberties, and you don't know me from a Herb Alpert album at a thrift store. So, please know that I wasn't trying to get you banned, or offended. If I ever have the privelege of seeing you play, I'll introduce myself and buy you a Shirley Temple or something. B)
  11. I wonder why alcoholissimo hasn't weighed in on this yet!
  12. I think that I realized it first when listening to "The Squirrel" on BN, that Kenny D. was the man to be playing w/ Dex. But man, I love me some Sonny C.
  13. Yeah, she's been locked up, but I don't think they were real cuffs. No, I haven't seen the video. Can't afford it.
  14. This thread is seeing more action than Free Paris Hilton Mpeg site!
  15. Now I get the "I STAY BOMBED" reference.
  16. Late-I have been to coffee time, but I've never tried their chai. Nor do I write home all that much but I will give that chai a try. Thanks
  17. Living in Portland, there are many coffee addicts. In fact, the pianist Darrell Grant did an album called "Smokin' Java" after he moved here and got addicted to the bean. I too am a coffee addict. But not black coffee, gotta have a sweetener/cream/anything to dilute it... Now I am out of cream, and realizing that the headache that I'm getting has everything to do with B.S.'n online about coffee, and not having any in front of me. So, off to the corner store for creamer.
  18. Oh, and I can boast that I once got a girl who LOVED Dave Matthews Band to realize that it wasn't worth her time, and she even sold her concert tickets, and never went back to this shit sandwich. A personal victory, as I can't stand that band.
  19. I'd include some Mary Lou Williams, cause it swings like a M.F., is emotionally moving, and will show her that there have been great women in jazz, too (not a dis to the likes of Norah J., who she'd probably also enjoy, but who have really achieved mastery over the vocabulary of the music). I agree about the Dex ballad, and maybe some Lee Morgan (Ceora, Sidewinder to start(?)). Good luck. I've done this thing with about every woman I've ever dated, and it usually got 'em more interested in jazz.
  20. I think the poll is sort of , but I'd like to see him stay. My $.02. But here's an idea for another poll: Wiping y'r ass 1. Back to Front 2. Front to Back ????
  21. I sent you a PM, UndergrA. Got this one.
  22. Most of the Farmers, Blakeys, and Dorhams, Ted Curson "Plays Fire Down Below", Mal Waldron's titles are all excellent, Tommy Flanagan's as well. Go to town!
  23. Hey Conn, Have a great birthday. Hope you get a bunch of jazz stuff. MM
  24. Hmmm...I would have to guess K.D., too. But who was he subbing for (?), I couldn't tell ya'. Freddie might have had a little more "out" dates under his belt, but he wasn't exactly "Go to" in those situations. I'm stumped.
  25. That Rocks!!!!
