Indeed. I heard them at SUNY Binghamton fall 1973. Very intense, wonderful music. As I recall, it was one continuous improvisation that was nearing 2 hours...when, in the lobby of the building, right outside the concert hall, there was a shooting (a murder!). The alarms sounded and the building was evacuated. As we stood outside the building, I heard one person say to another, "that was the only way that concert could have ended." Really? a shooting? I'm a Bing alum from 2005. Sounds like it will be a cool set.

I bought a copy and am listening now. I agree with Jeff, I feel Holland's tunes with this band and quintet have this thing, very ostinato based, elements of funk, Latin, sort of winding harmonies. I guess the word is he's so consistent these days it's hard to find something that stands out.

isn't it great the telepathy between Randy and Jim on his first few bars soloing on "Senor Buffet?" Randy just finishes the phrase for him.

Those of us who are Patheads, know the article details are nothing new.. but this really is a unique idea and one that works well musically. The title track and "Expansion" is among Pat's best writing ever. I want to see this in NYC the final night of the tour.

There was a printing error in the booklets (pages out of order) so I don't think they have gone out yet. I haven't received mine yet.

I think this album is pretty decent actually. I also found no audible evidence of Philly Joe Jones' drumming being not up to par re: Blumenthal's comments.

Cha Cha J is an oddity in that we hear JOS solo on piano. The "Cherokee" session was supposed to be a piano trio but it was unsuccessful, so he switched to B3 as usual.

That's really interesting! I started studying Buddhism myself so that was neat to read about his spiritual journey.

I think George is completely off to one side. I don't think he's like anyone or even any movement in jazz or other kind of music. MG I just listened to "The Bump" on Youtube, his playing is pretty interesting definitely.
