  1. Yes, I agree (with the looking hideous part). I definitely can't see anything "art" in them, to me most of the players above look like über kitsch. other than the Goldmund's, they all look pretty cool to me. i'd be curious to know how many units were sold of each of these models, and where. in Dubai?
  2. thanks. that was a tough one.
  3. Freddie Hubbard Unissued Live Recordings As Leader 1969-1980 http://home.earthlink.net/~lpogost/freddiehubbard.htm maybe someone can i.d. the unknown title from September 23, 1970 Amsterdam, it's at http://picosong.com/jXUM it's usually listed as "For B.P." (from High Blues Pressure 1967), but it's not the same tune.
  4. a very long bob belden wkcr interview from 1999. https://tedpanken.wordpress.com/2015/05/20/in-response-to-the-passing-of-bob-belden-oct-31-1956-may-20-2015-a-wkcr-musician-show-interview-from-1999-an-interview-for-the-press-bio-i-wrote-for-black-dahlia-from-2000-and-an-uncut-down/
  5. i don't think that this record label has too much jazz experience. here is their R&B/JAZZ section http://www.rockbeatrecords.com/buy-dvd-cd/index.php?cPath=30_53 the parker is the only jazz item. that page did get me to read about ike turner on wiki, and how he "completed 18 months of his sentence before being released on parole in September 1991.... In prison he became a trustee working in the library and saved up $13,000 by selling cigarettes, candy bars and coffee to other inmates." which sounds like a big fat lie.
  6. losin will probably update his discography with this release in the near future. then you can make an informed decision on whether to get it or not.
  7. some screenshots of bob belden playing in woody herman's band 1979 nice, france. he is best seen in the photos in the top row, the 3 shots on the left. edit: looks like he posted this concert on his youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/Bobbelden/search?query=allintitle%3A+woody
  8. "Saint Louis Blues" (point productions 2641122) correct titles are in brackets 4 Crede Jazz [Tiger Rag] 2:40 5 Tiger Rag -encore] 1:25 8 Dixieland Jubilee [Running Wild] 4:07 14 Faith Is On [Faithful Hussar] 2:41 17 Don't You Know [Kokomo] 2:29 another unique concert: Louis Armstrong "On The Road" (laserlight/delta) 9-7-57 seattle http://www.discogs.com/Louis-Armstrong-On-The-Road/release/1377517 http://www.amazon.com/Road-Louis-Armstrong/dp/B000001VU4/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1431706691&sr=1-1&keywords=Louis+Armstrong+on+the+road
  9. https://archive.org/details/interview-with-louis-armstrong.UqG9Ov.popuparchive.org armstrong sounds even more relaxed than usual.
  10. for a penny "Saint Louis Blues" (point productions 2641122) http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00162T8WM/ref=tmm_acd_used_olp_sr?ie=UTF8&condition=used&sr=&qid=&tag=donations09-20 http://www.discogs.com/Louis-Armstrong-Saint-Louis-Blues/release/4301445 5-17-59 ljubljana, yugoslavia
  11. i have a question mark by that one too. and the 'blues' from the same session sounds like an unknown title rather than just a blues. there are mistakes in the personnel listing on some tunes. brazil doesn't have a sax, and going down to big mary's does. but they got everybody and their grandmothers to do some reminiscin' in the liner notes. i'm not very impressed with wes' playing on this (except on brazil and caravan). would prefer some 1966-68 live material instead.
  12. Louis Armstrong Tight Like This 1928 starts off like it's going to be a novelty record. but then the trumpet solo starts, and it becomes my favorite armstrong 1920's performance.
  13. i've only seen kane and 'F for Fake' (1974). F for Fake was good.
  14. 4 sun ra 1950's 7 mccoy tyner? 8 jarrett? (not sun ra?) edit: yes, 8 is sun ra from 'some blues but not the kind that's blue'. doesn't sound like his style of playing to me.
  15. not to sidetrack, but i find this guest appearance fascinating Miles Davis sits in for one tune at a B.B. King concert, Barcelona 11-13-73
  16. there's a lot of issued 1943-45 radio material that they didn't bother to include on these integrale volumes.
  17. shepp and byas sit in on only 2 tunes on this concert.
  18. i'm not sure. looking at http://www.discogs.com/Louis-Armstrong-And-His-Friends/master/259216 it seems that most issues after 1970 have the edited version. also the mix seems different from the u.s. bluebird cd that i have.
  19. http://michaelminn.net/discographies/armstrong/index.php?section6
  20. one minute longer on end than most issued versions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bj-qDNQ8OfE
  21. he's on this armstrong video concert
  22. you cheated by using the web. i said 'by looking only at this armstrong book discography'. and nowhere in the book does he give titles of releases, he just gives the matrix numbers. i hope he's in discographer's hell.
  23. if it's so nice, then please tell me, by looking only at this armstrong book discography, what this vinyl release contains http://www.discogs.com/Louis-Armstrong-Live-Recordings/release/873053 Louis Armstrong ‎– Live Recording Label: Polskie Nagrania Muza ‎– SXL 1158 "Live Recordings At The "Stork Club", New York, 1962" (obviously later than 1962, because it has hello dolly) the only way is to look up each tune in the index, then go to the sessions that contain the tune, and then search for the Muza ‎– SXL 1158 within the session. and most of the tunes on this release were probably performed/recorded 50 times = 50 sessions to look through for each tune. it's insane. or if you think that they're all from one concert, you could make a chart of when all 10 tunes appear on the same live session. that sounds like fun too. here's another one that should be easier, but it's really not. louis armstrong "on the road" laserlight 15798 http://www.discogs.com/Louis-Armstrong-On-The-Road/release/1377517 i now know that it's from one concert. but the only way to find it is to blindly search through the armstrong 'discography' page by page for the magic 15798 number, the font of which, is about 4 or 5.
  24. i'd have some choice words for this discographer if he wasn't dead. a proper book form discography has a 78/45/lp/cd/dvd/video index in the back of the book, even if all the formats were combined together into one index of issues. and in that index, under 'L" the entry of the above cd would be something like: Laserline 15773 Louis Armstrong And His All-Stars April 26, 1947, June 10, 1947, March 24-April 3, 1949 the coltrane discography also has the release name included in the session entry, which makes it even easier/not having to search the index for the release name. the guy probably spent tireless years compiling this thing, and he fails to do an extremely important part of the discography.
  25. so, if i wanted to seach this discography for the contents of a cd, for example cd title "Louis Armstrong His All Stars". laserline label, live recordings, which doesn't provide recording dates in the booklet. http://www.discogs.com/Louis-Armstrong-And-His-All-Stars-Earl-Fatha-Hines-Velma-Middleton-Louis-Armstrong-And-His-All-Stars/release/6078195 then how did this genius discographer expect anyone to find the info in his discography?
