  1. Here is a trip down memory lane. Click on "all tapes" in the upper right hand corner, and scroll through an analog flashback!

I'm thinking maybe we should start a list?
  3. I wouldn't care if he was my best friend, I'm not sure I would be cool with, you know, him and my wife...

WTF? Why on earth would you waste your time and money on an overrated soul-less hack like O.P?!?! (Oops, sorry. Moderators, could you please move this post to the O.P. R.I.P thread where it belongs? )
  5. No jazz gifts for me this year. I need to remind myself not to impulsively buy so many for myself, so that I can put together a list for next Christmas. Got the Complete Seinfeld DVD box, and a 22" widescreen computer monitor!
  6. Shit! I hope that doesn't mean I'm going to have to actually watch that crappy Kevin Costner "Waterworld" thing! :rsmile:
  7. Just ordered. Thanks for the heads-up!
  8. I've heard some of those Sinatra session tapes, and I too came away with increased respect for Sinatra. He was much more "fully engaged" than I would have guessed. I think I probably pictured it more like Phil Hartman's SNL parody of Sinatra skating through the Duets session.
  9. Hey, I don't know from "looming legacy", but I dug OP OK, and he did plenty of swingin'. A favorite of mine is one with Anita O'Day. R.I.P. and much respect.
  10. I remember one Christmas when I was really little, maybe three years old. There was a large box under the tree for a few days before Christmas, and they told me it was addressed to me, so I was just obsessed with it. Came time to open presents and that's the one I went for first. Ripped it open, only to find that it was just full of crinkled up newspaper. I FREAKED!!! and threw a tantrum at having been so duped. Apparently there was also a note in the box "from Santa" saying to look in another room for my present, a shiny new tricycle that they were hurredly wheeling out. Of course, being three, I had no use for a note, and the whole schtick was a flop. Thanks for asking. I need a drink...
  11. It's been quite a few years since I had a Tommy's burger, but I was just singing their praises to Mrs. DukeCity the other day.
  12. OK, that's a little synchronicious! I clicked on your post as I'm watching the Big Lebowski, right in the middle of that dream sequence, with that song playing!
  13. SWEET!!! I was probably 6 or so. As the youngest of four kids, I'm sure I got the hang of what was really happening pretty early on. It was a little convoluted, since we always opened presents on Christmas eve, and there were already some presents under the tree from Santa. Then, Christmas morning there were stockings filled by Santa, and we headed over to Grandma and Grandpa's house.

  15. Like JimA said, there are just so many mediocre-to-bad singers, that a lot of (instrumental) musicians like me get pretty...uh...cautious. That being said, most of my gigs these days are backing up local singers. The one I work with most is a fine singer and she's one of my best friends. But we laugh about the first time we met. I was playing a gig with an organ trio and she and another singer dropped by the club. The bandleader knew them and invited them to sit in. I was thinking, "Oh great, a couple of damn chick singers! Shit!" and apparently I was wearing those thoughts on my sleeve, because my friend remembers me giving her quite a chilly reception as she came to the bandstand. Well, she sang her ass off, and my worst fears were NOT confirmed, but I still tend to keep those shields up when facing new "chick singers".
  16. I'm 44 and I do remember that show...a little. All I remember about it is that she would access her super powers by touching her two bracelets together and saying, "Oh, mighty Isis!" Then, shazam, she would start kicking ass. Don't remember particularly having a crush, and I can't imagine dropping any cash on the DVD's. Thanks for the flashback, though.
  17. Not too surprising, then, that HH's Top 40 hit was an instrumental.
  18. Is there a link for this, or did your copy arrive in the mail today?
  19. Not ones who last... Ah yes, the ArmStrong Range Extender quickly reaches its point of diminishing returns.
  20. Ummm....I don't think anything ever put on the Welk show was done so because of its "cool" factor.
  21. Absolutely! This one's a favorite of mine. Some might put this in the pile of mediocre dates, but hearing CT swinging his butt off over the latin grooves just makes me smile.
  22. How can you not have a good time when you're wearing white shoes?
  23. "Live at the Wichita Jazz Festival"? Clark: "Next we'd like to feature the saxophone section a capella. And that means 'with no clothes on'."
  24. Happy Birthday, CT!! Just in case clem can't bring himself to look at this thread, here's his earlier tribute:
