  1. Sorry to hear about Zora! I'm sure it was a horrifying experience for both of you. Hope she mends quickly.
  2. I've done a few LPs to computer with my Mac, but I've used Audacity (free) and Final Vinyl (cheap) and they both worked fine. I've used the Griffin iMic between my TT and computer, and it works great, too.
  3. yeah thats probably right. i forgot you could apply distinct rules to huge age groups dont all guys over 30 have ED? maybe theres a link I'm over 30. Do I have ED? Hell yeah! I've got all six seasons on DVD!!!
  4. I always thought he was just Okeh!
  5. I'll cover that last 2% for you. It's a contrabass clarinet (could be a contra-alto clar, but those are often referred to as contrabass as well).
  6. I....don't......think so.... My bad. I was reading Leonard Feathers' original liner notes (first mistake...) and it starts, "This LP constituted a double premiere. For the first time Sommy Rollins in heard appearing before the publick as leader of his own combo." Meaning, it's apparently his first "live" date as a leader. Too much Scotch last nite... And if it's all the same to you, I'd rather not think about what you do in your pants...
  7. OK, technically it was fifty years ago yesterday (Nov. 3, 1957), but it was on a Sunday, so close enough for me. "A Night At The Village Vanguard" Sonny Rollins doing his first record date as a leader (and I think it was also the first live recording done at the Vanguard). The trio date starting with a matinee with Pete LaRoca and Donald Baily. Apparently Sonny wasn't satisfied with the sound/feel of that set, so he sent them home and called Elvin Jones and Wilbur Ware to play that night. A beautiful record of swinging trio playing! Share the love?
  8. I hope you're joking, and not promoting illegal downloading. im not joking. i find it to be the best marketing tool available to rising artists. i wouldnt own half the albums i do if i didnt preview them (omg illegally) first. Here we go...
  9. There are some Hal Galper albums: "Children of the Night" "Reach Out" "Redux '78" (I think this one has Randy on it)
  10. Got my cancellation email this morning. Happy Freakin' Halloween!
  11. Haven't received a cancellation....yet. Got a message the other day, delaying delivery with a projected date of 5 November- 11 November. We'll see, but I'm not counting on it. Edit: to mention that I did get the Joe Henderson Milestone box deal from da Bastids, and that will provide some solace...
  12. Arno Marsh---> RANDISSIMO!!!
  13. Mercer Ellington Me (my dad played in swing bands in the Seattle and Portland area after WWII, not a heavy jazzer, but could swing and blow some good solos)
  14. Several years ago, when I was house hunting, I looked at a place for sale on Elvin Street. The house wasn't right for me, but I almost wanted to buy it, so that I could drive home to Elvin every evening!
  15. Sad news! I regret that I didn't seek out Marchel during the time I lived in the D/FW area, so he remained a "hero from afar" for me. When Sangrey has the time and the inclination, I'd love to hear a story or two...
  16. NOT CLEAR!!!
  17. Happy Birthday, fellas! Hope it's a great one!!!!
  18. Try a Google search for "slide trumpet" or "valve trombone." Check also for "firebird trumpet" and "superbone" I've never heard of a "trumpbone"
  19. This story has been getting lots of airtime on the local news here. Seems like a tricky one, with some compelling arguments on both sides. The whole "soverign nation" thing is also troublesome. That's what allows them to have a casino in the first place, but it also allows them to squirm out of this case going to US court. I think the casino could have made a better public relations move by offering the the guy a bigger settlement, say split the difference and give him half. A drop in the bucket of their take, and a huge statement of good faith on their part.
  20. They performed on The Today Show this morning, and did an Everly Brothers tune. Unfortunately, the mix was jacked, and I heard mostly RP and not much AK. I wish it would have been the opposite...
  21. Clearly, this post is from someone who is now firmly entrenched in academia!
  22. Several years ago my dad gave me a coffee table book for Christmas entitled "How I Play Golf" by TW. Of course the entire text could have been simply: "Well first I drive the ball about 350 yards, then take an easy wedge to put the ball about two feet from the cup, then I tap in for a birdie. Any questions?"
  23. Not to worry. Forgetting a drummer's name = not a problem. Forgetting what drums ARE = problem. (at least that's what I keep telling myself... )
  24. Oh, so this whole thing is just a joke to you? Well, howza 'bout you being grounded for a week? Pretty funny, huh? What's that? You wanna make it TWO weeks? Fine by me, mister... :rsmile:
  25. That's it; go sit in the car!
