  1. One of the greatest. R.I.P.
  2. No CDs - well maybe 1 or 2 per month. No books. No travel. Fewer meals out. Lots of hiking & TV.

    Pid?

As a retired physician, that used to stand for "pelvic inflammatory disease".
  5. I always felt that Hardman had a very distinctive sound & style. He may not have had the "technique" of some of the usual suspects, but he could always (IMO) be identified very easily.
  6. I liked it more than you did. I found the writing style & story quite moving. I did have to get out my Spanish dictionary now & then.
  7. Roth: Indignation
  8. I know it's not a poll, but I don't agree with you on almost all of the above. Just my 2 cents.
  9. Probably tacky to reply to myself, but yes he can & did. Go Brewers!!
  10. How's this? It's been getting good reviews, and I'm looking around for a good used copy here in Chicago. I think it's excellent. As you know, it did win the Pulitzer for fiction.
  11. Junot Diaz: The Brief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao
  12. Can Sabathia save the Brewers "bacon" tomorrow on 3 days rest?!? We'll see.
  13. Go Brewers.
  14. Irrational exuberance. Mets lost. Phillies lost. Brewers (Sabathia) beat Pirates. Brewers & Mets now tied. Indeed, go Cubs - especially (only) tomorrow.
  15. Burn After Reading was just O.K. Go see a good movie like "Frozen River".
  16. Better than you'd think, not as good as it might have been.
  17. I'm less interested in Bela Fleck than Derek Trucks.
  18. Basically terrible reviews. http://www.rottentomatoes.com
  19. Roberto Bolano: The Savage Detectives
  20. Cubs lose 5 in a row, but Brewers lose 4 in a row. I give up (almost).
  21. John McNeil / Bill McHenry Quartet: Rediscovery (Sunnyside) Really, really good (IMHO). Oops, noted earlier. Still excellent.
  22. Well - I can't resist. Sabathia pitches a one hitter complete game shutout (really a no hitter if anyone saw the play). Looks like the Brewers will get the wild card. Will they catch the Cubs? Probably not, although they still have 6 games together (& I do know what happened the last time they played each other). Brewers would clearly win either of the other 2 NL divisions.
