  1. Daniel Silva: The Kill Artist
  2. Thanks for this insight. Really helpful (to me).
  3. Yes indeed....the recent pair (on Eighty-Eight's) of live Birdland recordings are excellent. Glad to see those Eighty-Eight's mentioned. They are great.
  4. Great box set. Anyone else having trouble with the edges of the box coming apart???
  5. As John McEnroe used to say "you can't be serious". And yes, I did watch the video as I had never heard of Paramore or Hayley Williams. BTW - skank is a little harsh, I think she (Winehouse) looks more like a modern day Ronnette.
  6. I get to have an opinion too. The Joni Letters does nothing for me. I listened once & gave it away. And to think Herbie was so great back in the day (as they say). I didn't see the show so know nothing about any of the performances. We'll see re: Amy Winehouse. I agree with the one other person in this thread who thinks she is talented.
  7. Apropos of what you're saying, when I first played some Ornette for my wife she left the room. Now she thinks he's great (& I still do).
  8. My order finally showed up. Ordered Jan. 21. Shipped Jan. 23. Arrived Feb. 6. So I guess the fault lies with the USPS. Newbury told me they mailed it first class. The label on the package said Global Mail which I've never heard of.
  9. I don't care about Ratliff , but at least he wrote about Mary Halvorson. I have that Taylor Ho Bynum Cd too. I like it.
  10. Well - screw Ratliff since everybody here hates him. Mary Halvorson is an interesting player.
  11. Interesting. She's played quite a bit with Braxton.
  12. I guess I don't / shouldn't give a crap, but doesn't this belong in the politics thread so I can ignore it. Sorry - just feeling cranky tonight.
  13. Nice thread. Nice info. Be careful around here though. The jazz police will be around soon to let you know how useless Lovano & O.P. are / were.
  14. I thought this was about a different Bill but that would be in the politics thread. Never mind.
  15. So if her music was "better" her lifestyle wouldn't matter. I don't give a "hoot" about the Grammys (any category). I just enjoy both of her CDs.
  16. That's not the point. Has nothing to do with song writing or type of musical material. Many addicted jazz artists never went to rehab. A good number just died prematurely. FWIW, I believe she has now gone to rehab., for whatever good it will do. I know she's a substance abuser, but I don't recall heroin being the offending drug. Did you stop listening to Miles, Getz, Trane, Mobley, Blakey, Sonny Clark, Warne Marsh, etc., etc., etc. until they cleaned up? I didn't. If one doesn't care for the music, that's fine. I just don't believe that lifestyle should determine who you listen to, read, or even the paintings you look at. jazzshrink (or anyone else) can use that as a determining factor. I don't.
  17. That viewpoint must severely limit your jazz listening.
  18. I have 2 of the 3 Cohrans & the Melvin Jackson. All worthwhile. You should add the Bosco CD to your list.
  19. I agree that she's "messed up". I don't agree that she's "over-rated" or untalented.
  20. Please, no hints.
  21. I received an e-mail too. However, all it basically said was that it could take up to 21 days for an order to arrive. They didn't answer my question about what shipping / mailing method was used. FWIW the order is still not here, although today's mail has not yet arrived. Order was placed on Jan. 21 & apparently shipped on Jan. 23.
  22. Somebody told me that a Giants win would be good for the stock market. Should be a big rally on Wall Street tomorrow.
  23. Definitely my current favorite television program.
  24. Well, I agree that the USPS stinks. They (Newbury) could answer my e-mail. They used to. If the order does not arrive Monday, I'll try calling them.
