  1. CD reissues of the first 3 Leonard Cohen albums. Mine went the way of all vinyl years ago.
  2. I was at that same run at The Jazz Workshop. I was an intern at the Boston City Hospital at the time. The "show" I was at had at least one other saxophone player. I think it was Carlos Ward. It was pretty intense. I loved it at the time. Don't know how it would hit me today.

    Coleman Hawkins: Rainbow Mist
  4. Matt Wilson's Arts & Crafts
  5. Ouch. I guess Chris didn't like her. BTW in my cursory search at AAJ, I found more that was +. In fact I couldn't find the Albertson quote. Disclaimer: As I said, my search was not exhaustive.
  6. I'm not interested in arguing with anyone. I'd love to see Ornette play live & not pay a lot. Not gonna' happen. With some associates we do some jazz "booking" here in the desert. We recently were offered the "opportunity" to present 2 famous jazz musicians in a concert of duets. The price was $40,000. Maybe it was negotiable, but we didn't even try. We booked a great quartet for $4K, sold our 100 seats, & everyone had a good time. Needless to say, I will not name names.
  7. Ornette (or anyone else) can ask for whatever $$$ they want. If they don't get hired, that's their problem. Maybe he doesn't need the money.
  8. That's called the "chew test". I'd go to the dentist.
  9. That's a great Baron Wolman photo. Rolling Stone photographer back in the day. Lives here in Santa Fe now. Went to a recent exhibit of his & the photos overall were quite good. BTW (IMHO) you need both of these CDs.
  10. Canela - Patrice Rushen, Justo Almario, Abe Laboriel, Alex Acuna
  11. I don't have any empathy for Imus (here comes the but). Sharpton = Tawana Brawley as well as many racist, anti-Semitic statements. Jackson = hymietown as was mentioned earlier. I personally can live without all 3 of them. When you spit up in the air you know where the spit may land.
  12. Light In The Attic Records is about to reissue the first 2 Betty Davis albums with bonus tracks. If they do as good a job as they did with their Karen Dalton reissue, these will be great. According to their description these are authorized & Betty will be receiving royalties. Apparently she is living in Pittsburgh & is broke. http://www.lightintheattic.net
  13. Get Frank too. She was 19 when she recorded it. It's excellent anyway.
  14. I bought a few that I didn't have in any other format (4, 5, 6; Tenor Madness; Lockjaw). I like 'em.
  15. No, go see "The Namesake" as well! Why does life have to be "either/or"? Why choose when you can have both? I guess I'm not part of the "hip young audience" anymore. Maybe my loss , maybe not. I'm just at the stage where I'd rather go see the 1962 Italian movie, Mafioso (to name another).
  16. I saw Tarantino & Rodriguez on Charlie Rose. I'm going to skip it. Off thread: Go see The Namesake instead.
  17. Art Pepper: The Complete Abashiri Concert is available directly from Laurie Pepper. I believe that release has been discussed here previously.
  18. Bobby Shew has moved back to the Albuquerque area. Going to hear him in Santa Fe tonight with a "local" trio that includes Dave Parlato (bass on Warne Marsh's Ne Plus Ultra).
  19. I'm not actually defending anyone, but there's no birthday info. in Danielle's profile, so who could know?
  20. Thta's my next one too.
  21. Considering that the Bolton/Anderza has no real connection to this music, your comment almost makes me wonder if Michael was just looking for a Select project that he could stick these two in, and came up with this one, but I think its great that Michael chose such a set for a Select, given that they usually pick a set of LPs that actually saw release. With only two issued albums, this wouldn't even be a possibility as a Select without knowing that there are 29 worthy but unissued tunes to include. WELL, no need to spend all that money for these two Bolton/Anderza tracks. Uptown is going to issue a Dupree Bolton cd including these two tracks (licensed from EMI). It will be interesting to see which package hits the market first. I think MC might have thrown these on the Select after Uptown "flagged" 'em. What else will be on the uptown Bolton CD??
  22. $4 D. Schildkraut CD from A. Lowe.
  23. $44 for the 2 Dupree Bolton / Earl Anderza cuts. I hope the rest is "good" - I've never heard it.
  24. Are all those others (that I could care less about) on the CD too?
