  1. Are all those others (that I could care less about) on the CD too?

    Anthony Braxton

Thanks to Chalupa for posting that.
  3. I'm with John S. a few posts back.
  4. That's not my feeling (but that's just me). IMHO Douglas has provided numerous "highlights" to my listening over the last several years. Different strokes I guess.
  5. I'm in for the Cohn / Newman / Green & the Ellington. Looking forward.
  6. You should get a finders fee Lon. I just bought it too. Although at $3.08 not sure what the "rebate" would be.
  7. Thanks. Got nice Elmo Hope & Ernie Henry CDs. Kids sent a gift certificate for one of my favorite winerys. All is well.
  8. Elmo Hope: Homecoming Ernie Henry: Presenting Ernie Henry
  9. Got it. Nice. Heard them live recently (with different bass & drums).

    Benny Golson

Not "the only". Intoducing The Elmo Hope Trio has them together. I have the JRVG.
  11. I have 3 CDs documenting this music. All excellent.
  12. Some story! Might make a great film.
  13. It's a landslide - Newbury it is.
  14. Enjoyed this substatially more than the same song performed live on Letterman: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlRF43-xaYc...ted&search= Liked the body language in the video, seemed natural. Still, it is all kind of retro, isn't it? Yeah but - I've listened very carefully to both Amy Winehouse CDs, & I really like both of them.
  15. I was watching Letterman last night & there she was. I had never heard or seen her before. She wasn't bad. Not enough to send me out for the CD, but not bad.

    Kenny Werner

I just ordered Lawn Chair Society yesterday. I've seen Werner live in a number of different settings. He's never been less than excellent.
  17. I have absolutely zero interest in seeing this movie.
  18. Beware the wrath of chewy!!
  19. Preaching to the choir. Is there anyone that doesn't like Blue Serge?? Great album.
  20. Wow....that sounds like a cool show! Please post a review if you get the chance. 95 minute single set. Venue sold out (approx. 200). Serious music - tart, rigorous, abstract, intelligent. All original music, only names of 2 songs announced. Repaid close attention, I'd go again.
  21. Preordered the Braxton 9 disc Iridium set from Jazz Loft ($10 coupon expires 3/15 so I pulled the trigger). $102.99 including shipping.
  22. The term "blind spot(s)" is all over this thread, & I was not referring to any one poster in particular. I also am not disrespecting anyone, just disagreeing with some viewpoints. BTW, I believe Africa Brass is just fine but so is / was Martin Williams.
  23. Great stuff if you don't have it (& I didn't, since my vinyl days are long gone).
  24. Lots of bulls**t & pontificating in this thread. FWIW, I started listening to "jazz" 50+ years ago. Williams & others (Hentoff, Max Harrison & yes, Ralph J. Gleason among others) were very helpful in providing guideposts. Anyone remember the original Jazz Review magazine? I also recall that Williams was among the first to "boost" attention to Ornette Coleman. Good enough for me. We all have our "blind spots".
