  1. Don't know if this really has anything to do with this thread, but Jim Hall is on a Greg Osby Blue Note with Andrew Hill on piano.
  2. If you like this, see if you can find The Hip: Hipsters, Jazz & The Beat Generation. Published 1986 by Faber & Faber. Written by Roy Carr, Brian Case & Fred Dellar. Very cool!
  3. I'm not hardbop, nor am I a hardbop apologist, but I don't think the Murray thread at that other place has been fairly characterized here. Some might want to read it & some of the comments more carefully. I seem to recall some harsh criticism of Murray in the past by a very esteemed member of this board. The Roney thread is another story, although I'm cautious about the inclusion of D. J. Logic. On the other hand (& way off topic) artists like Uri Caine have used "turntableists" effectively, so I'll have to listen more carefully. Disclaimer: I'm not a big hip hop fan.
  4. Which reminds me- how is our ol' buddy hardbop doing, anyway? B-) You just know he's lovin' this. hardbop is over at AAJ posting & fighting (as usual) with Chris. Chris should be all over this thread soon.
  5. I have Afrika Rising. Got it from Dusty Groove. Very impressive (IMHO). Sort of an AACM / Detroit groove.
  6. books, 2 & 3 dimensional art
  7. Rollins At The Village Vanguard Bill Evans At The Village Vanguard
  8. I'm in the "old fart" contingent.
  9. I don't read the Times either, but this has been widely reported.
  10. Bill Evans version is my favorite.
  11. On its way to me from DG, along with a Sahib Shihab CD.
  12. You guys are "funny". FWIW, Music Selection in Calgary mailed a CD to me on Sept. 22. It was here in the good old USA on Sept.24.
  13. Adobe is excellent. So is Orange. I haven't heard Boom.
  14. Yeah - his stuff on JVC is great.
  15. FWIW, I don't look at the political or religious threads. Not what I'm here for.
  16. Of the ones you listed, I'd get the Byrd / Adams & the Carmell Jones.
  17. Philly Joe is a "trip" on this album. Elmo is fine & there is some John Gilmore (never enough). I have it on CD & enjoy it.
  18. Since it says "music or otherwise", I'll say George Pelecanos novels.

    Lee Katzman

Don't see much about this trumpeter. I've always thought the World Pac. LP led by Pepper Adams called Critics Choice featuring Katzman should be issued on CD. Just found a CD called Lee Katzman Meets Supersax. Has Jimmy Rowles on piano. I've listened several times and really like it. Try it if you see it.

    Baikida Carroll

I seem to remember an LP called Orange Fish Tears. Anybody else remember this???
  21. My order for all 3 just confirmed.
  22. Lon - I did too! Hope we both get all 3. Hard (impossible) to resist.
  23. I like 'em. Satellite Rides & Drag It Up are well worth it.
