  1. I wanted to stay out of this, but were any of you alive in the 60's??? Other than Chuck that is. Hopefully this won't get as ugly as the Gourse thread elsewhere.
  2. Great Jazz Trio: S'Wonderful (with Pattitucci & DeJohnette)
  3. I like her singing more than I thought I would. Going to see her live on Jan. 31.
  4. Well, Lou Mecca I suppose.
  5. Naah - get the Mulligan Concert Jazz Band Mosaic. You won't regret it.
  6. If you don't want to be an Emarcy "completist", then at least get At Basin Street.

    Nellie McKay

I have the 2 CD set. I like it.
  9. There is /?was a great Von Freeman quartet CD on Southport.
  10. I liked it more than my wife did. She thought it was "weird".
  11. Reggie White was a great football player & a homophobe. He also established homes for pregnant, unwed women, helped set up businesses in troubled urban areas & tried to bring people to G-d. His family also appeared to care deeply for him. Imperfect for sure, but not all bad.
  12. Bye Bye Blackbird Complete Blue Note The Out Of Towners
  13. C. Sharpe
  14. I've only got 3 of the 10, but I do have Face To Face.
  15. Art Pepper
  16. Oy vey. That is, of course, IMHO. Whew - what a thread this is.
  17. Interesting list. FWIW, those are the 2 Tzadik CDs I bought this year. The Jarrett, Schneider, Ellington & Great Jazz Trio would also be on my list.
  18. It is. The McKusick quartet (with Galbraith, Milt Hinton and Osie Johnson) recorded that Bethlehem date plus the Coral 'Jazz At The Academy' album. Both very recommended, indeed! I have both. They're both excellent. The live applause is kind of weird on the live Coral set.
  19. Lots of pontificating in this thread by a lot of you. I'll simply say I was around when Martin Williams (& Nat Hentoff & Ralph J. Gleason) were in their primes, & they were all crucial to my now almost 50 year exploration of what we all love (jazz). There were others (e.g. Robert Levin, Gitler, A.B. Spellman) but these 3 were key.
  20. I am in total agreement about the Venus CDs & agree that Cadence is the best source.
  21. Just ordered a used copy (? remaindered) for $1.94 + shipping. Looking forward to reading it.
