  1. Is it April Fool's day again???
  2. Legge is on a number of cuts on the old Columbia Byrd / Gryce album called Jazz Lab. Reissued on Collectables. Tommy Flanagan is the pianist on the other cuts.
  3. Interesting to see Joe Beck's name raised here. I picked up a recent Venus CD called Girl Talk (recorded 2002). Beck leading a trio with Joey DeFrancesco & Idris Muhammad. Very nice!
  4. Played with Donald Byrd / Gigi Gryce too.
  5. If cost is no object, the best restaurant in Madison (IMHO) is L'Etoile. I don't know the exact address, but it's on the 2nd floor of a building right across from the capitol.
  6. CD Universe, Dusty Groove, Cadence Occasionally Red Trumpet & Music Selection
  7. E-mail sent re: Woody Shaw.
  8. The Turbans: When You Dance Chuck Berry: Roll Over Beethoven
  9. Interesting discussion. Haven't decided yet whether to get this. Nice to see her do a Chris Smither tune (Love Me Like A Man). This was a big hit for Bonnie Raitt years ago. When I heard Chris recently he said the royalties were huge. Maybe this will do it all over again for him.
  10. Don't overlook Brian Lynch. The new one with Charlap is very nice

    We need some Conns..
  12. Never heard of her, but she looks good.
  13. Thanks for clarifying this. Gary Bartz' name does not appear anywhere on the Japanese reissue I have.
  14. She'll also be in Albuquerque at The Outpost Performance Space on May 10. $15 / $10 for members.
  15. Lucky plays on more than one track on Soul Finger.
  16. Agree on the Bix & Tram. It's just the right amount for me.

    Peter Bernstein

Excellent new Venus quartet CD with Mehldau on piano.
  18. 'S Make It & Soul Finger both produced by Jack Tracy. Wonder if he has any comments on these.
  19. I have all of them & glad of it. On a non-musical note, I love the cover picture on the Watkins.
  20. Cattin' With Coltrane & Quinichette
  21. Grand Poobah Of The Universe
  22. Andrew Hill: Andrew!!! Andrew Hill: Compulsion
  23. Drop City - T.C. Boyle
  24. Thanks Clem. Good points. I do own & enjoy the Brotzmann Okka 3CD Octet / Tentet set. It just feels to me that some of the solo & duo stuff reminds me of Borbetomagus that I could never sit through. Joe Maneri probably deserves more time from me. Microtonal is a "concept" that probably doesn't reward casual listening.
