  1. Yet another in your long line of outstanding achievements. Our generation thanks you😄

Charles did some amazing work in the 50's. Good player. Great writer and arranger.
  3. I came of age in the era of the Fender Stratocaster guitar hero - Hendrix, Duane Allman, Rory Gallagher, Pete Townshend, Jimmy Page, Alvin Lee, Kim Simmonds, early Carlos Santana, etc., (I do realize some of them played Gibson Les Paul's) so grunge just never has sounded right to me. Not familiar with the deep stuff you refer to, but I've tried Nirvana, Pearl Jam, etc. enough times to know it's not for me. I do get off on "Smells Like Teen Spirit", but that's about it.
  4. Same here, same timeframe, and it continued downhill from there. Led Zeppelin IV was another seminal 1971 album. And Carole King Tapestry was a landmark pop album. And there were countless other excellent albums. And 1965-1970 were all great years for pop/rock music. Soul/R&B continued to be really good throughout the 70's, even when disco came in.
  5. AFAIK, commercial rock radio no longer exists. There was a time when innovation could get played and sold, but that seems long gone.
  6. I exited 30+ years ago when I realized I despised both musical subgenres which then dominated (grunge and new jack), and I've never encountered anything which compels me to return.

You can get the whole 'Word From Bird' CD for under $10 - just go that route. Well worth it.
  8. You're right, and the other new Elvin's are Japanese-only. I would expect the Amazon pre-order price to drop before it comes out.
  9. If it's Japanese-only release, it actually will go out of print overnight, but will eventually come back around. Those Japanese BN's are carpe diem.
  10. I pre-ordered Revival from Amazon, but also want Prime Element, which only CDJapan has up for pre-order at this point. So may circle back to placing the whole order with CDJapan and cancelling the Amazon pre-order if Amazon doesn't ever put Prime Element up pre-order. Also looking to see if CDJapan lists anything more between now and next month to add to an order there to offset the crazy shipping costs. Or if importcds/popmarket gets around to listing these, I will go with them. Three dimensional chess figuring out who to most cost-effectively buy this stuff from. First World problem!
  11. And same here, as I inferred earlier.
  12. RIP. A survivor, and he did have talent. His late 60's Cadet and early/mid-70's Columbia albums were plenty interesting, though a nightmare for purists.
  13. You can subscribe to a new jazz releases daily email from cdjapan. These Elvin's were listed on it this morning. No other BN's except all the Elvin's, but BN seems to do Japanese reissues in two batches a month apart, so I'll wait until closer to the Nov 18 release date to pre-order, to see if I have more titles to add to the two new Elvin titles, Pookie's and Prime Element. I have all the other Elvin BN's on individual CD's already, as well as the Mosaic box which I will now sell off.
  14. I have that set and love it. Big fan of that label, they include original artwork and liner notes.
  15. I came across a few (Beatle-ish, Monkee-ish) as a kid that weren't bad. I've also listened to enough garage-rock covers to recognize enthusiastic incompetent-bad. This cut is subversive-bad, like they wanted it to be horrible. Which, come to think of it, would be so Lou Reed. Metal Surf-machine Music.
  16. Whole thing sounds like a bad joke.
  17. My favorite album of his from the last 35+ years (since 'Infidels'). The other one that sticks with me is 2020's 'Rough and Rowdy Ways', which was SO timely.
  18. Have you listened to the trio one with Hampton Hawes recently? Mingus never released a "bad" album, but that one is so "plain". Compare it with "Money Jungle" and two different worlds. As an example by contrast to the completely "fine" Hawes trio, the 1962 Town Hall recordings are a train wreck, but a fascinating one.
  19. Thanks. Those aren't going to draw me in to a repurchase.
  20. White hot 1969 live concert, a month after his incendiary Woodstock performance. Musically, he was maybe the actual star of Woodstock (check out the Columbia set of his full performance), but it is viewed more as a cultural event than a musical one.
  21. Any thoughts on what the four bonus tracks would be?
  22. Thanks, Lon. I'll wait and order from them.
  23. Pre-ordered, thx Jim!
