  1. Nothing by Ammons by Concord, not even the expected "Gene Ammons Plays for Lovers" 34 minute CD.
  2. Spectacularly, I'm sure, but not CCR spectacularly. BTW, Blue Note had the same situation later with Norah Jones bankrolling all those amazing Conn and RVG reissues.
  3. Correct unless you want to count the live date "The Scorpion", recorded late 1970, but not released until 1995. I basically fall where you do on all of this.
  4. Intro to the cut is hilarious. That's Philly Joe himself doing the Dracula bit:
  5. $118 on amazon, $73 on importcds. Still only tempted, not that hot on their albums later than the original group (many of the originals then went off and joined Soft Machine). Probably more tempted by the Barbara Thompson, just because I don't have anything by her, as I have the run of 70's and early 80's Nucleus albums
  6. My understanding was that Shaw replaced Cook as co-leader with Hayes, and McLean replaced Cook in the lineup.
  7. Price dependent for me. About 4+ prime CD's for me, the rest is increasingly marginal. $150? No way. $80? Maybe.
  8. I remember reading a quote by Shaw, I think on the liner notes to one of his Columbia albums, where he threw shade on the Louis Hayes/Ronnie Mathews/Stafford James/Rene McLean group he had left as not being good enough musicians for him. Thought that was pretty arrogant.
  9. Agreed. Though I'm a big Eric Alexander guy also.
  10. Count me in for this one!
  11. Most famously, "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" starring a very young William Shatner. He also wrote the fascinating time travel novel "Bid Time Return", which was dumbed down to the merely pleasant love story movie "Somewhere in Time".
  12. More specifically then, #7 is the opening cut from this .
  13. I certainly agree in the case of Carter. Hubbard only compared to his monster earlier playing, I still found him quite enjoyable in that era.
  14. The McBee is fabulous, from back when Chico Freeman breathed fire (what happened to him?). The Berger is also really good. The Waldron's and the Tolliver and the Hannibal are, of course, no-brainers if you don't own them. The Tolliver is a totally different album than the Strata-East of the same name.
  15. And why would anyone pre-order it for $27.98 + shipping and tax?
  16. And Gene Harris is nowhere to be found on it !
  17. http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?/topic/86246-roy-brooks-understanding/&page=5#comment-1756991 Hi Dan, it was here!
  18. So I added an $8.79 ENJA CD to my pre-existing order of the October/November BN's, as it showed no additional shipping charge. What they did, rather than charge me the additional $8.79, was to cancel my original order and re-do an order with the additional CD, which came out to $18.75 more, I guess due to the change in exchange rates since I placed the last order. So I have buyer's remorse on that one, and won't do that again.

    Frank Zappa

"Freak Out", "Absolutely Free", "We're Only in It For the Money", "Ruben and the Jets", and "Uncle Meat"? Yes. From that point on? No, except for the occasional song.
  20. Amazon also has it for $27.98. Importcds will likely be a good bit cheaper. I'm on the fence at best about this one at the going price.

I also hope they do something with the Waka Jawaka/Grand Wazoo works, and still need to pick up that Hot Rats box (wish it didn't have the garbage in it to inflate the price). Can't stand his lyrics from Flo/Eddie forward, they're mostly moronic, crudity for shock value. He actually had something to say on the Verve albums.
