  1. and this is mine:
  2. "Looking very relaxed on vibes, Adolf Hitler". (edited after Chuck's post to add song link).
  3. I like the line before that even better: "If silence was golden, you wouldn't be worth a dime.". And of course the punchline to "Parchman Farm" is priceless.
  4. Not aware of that album. Liked the group.
  5. Fascinating book
  6. Black Saint & Sinner Lady for me, but there's so many great ones over a quarter century.
  7. Which four Rawls LP's are in the Now Sounds section? All Axelrod productions?
  8. Yeah, that's a great one also. Same era, same producer.
  9. He did some excellent work with David Axelrod at Capitol in the late 60's. This gem from 1966 is my all-time favorite Rawls cut:
  10. Be sure to start with "Asha" and "Washington Suite" for McNeill.

    The Cookers

    Color me jealous!
  12. "Tzigane is a monster cut!
  13. That's what I said.
  14. I sure liked those first couple of Rickie Lee Jones albums (especially the first one), before her artiness stifled her art.

    The Cookers

    As did I.
  16. I like the Miles version for instrumental and the Ella/Satchmo version for vocals. And the Bethlehem set is certainly interesting and different. The MJQ version is very nice in its own way.
  17. Kenny Burrell.
  18. Never heard of that album before, looks really nice, thanks for the heads-up?
  19. #6 (already identified) is great, wonderful horn voicings which dynamically interact with the rhythm so nicely. I like the Miles Davis/Gil Evans version of this which never got onto one of the studio albums of the period (available as a CD bonus cut in a few different sets). #11 is also really nice, I should probably be placing it, Sounds like Mal Waldron on piano and Booker Ervin on tenor. Probably some old Prestige album I have on the shelves somewhere and should listen to more. Digging the drummer for sure.
  20. I'm only seeing 8 tracks online. The download does have 13 tracks.
  21. LaMont Dozier Brian Holland Eddie Holland
  22. Due for USA release this coming Friday. On my want list.
  23. Yeah, Jarrett and Metheny were like rock stars for a few years. Their albums were everywhere, and people outside the jazz world knew who they were.
