  1. That's the case for me with a lot of his recordings, though he also has ones I really like.
  2. That's a really nice Max Roach session (ca. 1960) with Julian Priester, the Turrentine Brothers, and Bob Boswell. The Hampton Hawes looks interesting (trio with McBee/Haynes), though I have never heard it.
  3. for the cigar - title track from this!
  4. That would make it Marc Copland from this. No idea which track, they all sound pretty much the same to me, and I don't have the stomach to try to differentiate them, as I just don't care for this sort of thing.
  5. If you have any affinity for 70's disco-ish music (I do), this is frequently heavenly. But be forewarned, it is NOT jazz, or even jazzy.
  6. So CDJapan came in with a match at 1400 yen (about $14) on the Donaldson disc, which seemed fine to me, figured I'd just add some other discs I had bookmarked and place an order, paying the shipping. They then wanted to add on 1000 yen for their match and also an additional charge to get the CD from the place that had it, bringing me up well over $25, probably more like $30, plus the shipping to me. Bottom line, don't consider their proxy shopping unless you are prepared to pay big for the item you are seeking.
  7. Was referring to the knock-off CD's on various reissue labels!
  8. Just wait 'til he starts hitting some of the Strata East stuff, which will set you back $40-50 a pop
  9. Yes, that one is unique and outstanding! I like the Clifford Brown one also, but "Focus" is something completely different.
  10. Thanks, I opened a request for it, and we'll see what happens. Meantime I'll keep an eye on Ebay.
  11. Impeccable choices (would have been hard to go wrong with most any Waldron or Curson from the decade). Not familiar with the Williams or the Stenson, and I like late Williams a good bit, but find much of her later work hard to come by.

  13. Yep. Obviously Wayne has.
  14. amazon.co.jp was a great suggestion, except I can't log in using my amazon.com account! Any suggestions on how I can log onto amazon.co.jp with an amazon.com prime account? I have ordered from amazon in canada, uk, france, and germany, have never had this issue. Is it because of the character set (alphabet)?
  15. Please PM if you have a lead for me on getting this CD, thanks.
  16. Really liked his work with the Jarrett European Quartet, and on many other ECM albums. RIP.
  17. Have never heard any of them, not adept at sources for this sort of thing, wish I was.
  18. Roach sold. Additional (and likely final) price drops on remaining titles: Lennie Tristano (6 CD's) $100 Woody Herman Select (3 CD's) $35 Akiyoshi/Tabackin Select (3 CD's) $70 Modern Jazz Quartet (7 CD's) $105 Sonny Stitt (9 CD's) $95
  19. And the Tyrone Washington Train Wreck! All "lost treasures"!
  20. Everly-ish harmonies at their best, strong writing and guitar playing. Best of breed. And this is a live album, which has their best songs, and avoids the production pitfalls which have tripped them up in the studio so often following their stunning debut. Start here.
