Misc Box Sets , Herbie, Dexter, Corea, Kirk
felser replied to Gdgray's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Great sets, great prices, great seller. The Gordon and Hancock sets are beautiful, maybe the nicest packages Blue Note ever released. -
SOLD Beatles in Mono CD Box Unplayed
felser replied to Michael's topic in Offering and Looking For...
And the early albums were meant to be heard in mono. Stereo mixes were niche market afterthoughts with no band involvement. -

I second that evaluation.

I got it from a store in Ann Arbor on a business trip in 1993, right after I got married. It had been traded in, they didn't know what to do with it, sold it to me for like $125. I jumped at the opportunity, even though I couldn't really afford it, having just bought a house and paid for a wedding. Just felt I also couldn't afford to pass on it. Have never regretted it.

I just checked, and it is all on the Complete Galaxy Box, discs 2-4. This new release may (or may not) have better mastering, as that box is 30 years old.
-
If I'm reading the discography correctly, looks like all of it would be on the Complete Galaxy box (assuming that contains GXY-5148 and GXY-5154). I own that box, so don't need this. I want to put in a good word here for Omnivore Records, who have done exemplary work in their rock reissues of The Dream Syndicate, Game Theory, and others.

SOLD. 30th Anniversary Born to Run box
felser replied to Michael's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Great box. The concert DVD is spectacular, well worth the price alone. -
Sounds like a good show. I listened to sample of new album. The singer is not my thing, but I can understand that they are playing honest music on it, hope to pick it up for a fuller hearing some day.

Who was/were the vocalist(s) for the live show?

Whole batch of Mosaic Selects and Singles running low
felser replied to miles65's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
True. Where possible, I have sold off those sets and bought individual CD's once they were available (still waiting for one Stanley Turrentine title, one Elvin Jones title and a few Lou Donaldson titles to free up those boxes). But I owned a LOT of Mosaic sets 25 years ago, and was so thankful that the material was made available. I never would have dreamed I would someday easily own something like the complete works of Tina Brooks. Figured I would go to the grave without ever hearing things like his 'True Blue' and McLean's 'A Fickle Sonance'. -
Agreed, Sebesky did that sort of thing better than anyone, and I enjoy those CTI albums, with Sunflower being one of the best along with Hubbard's First Light and some others.

Whole batch of Mosaic Selects and Singles running low
felser replied to miles65's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I have it, got it at a really good price, but I wish it was smaller, as I don't see myself ever playing half of it again. But things like the Dizzy Reece and Ronnie Mathews are pretty great. -

USPS has their best people trying to track down my package and get it to me: -
Santana has (at least) 20 years of dross weighing down his reputation, including several "meaningful" releases that weren't. I doubt skepticism about this particular release is limited to the Organissimo "Old Boys Club" (our latest annual picture below):

What rock music are you listening to? Non-Jazz, Non-Classical.

Glad they used that cover and not this one:
