I have the 7 CD box set Blues, Bop and Boogie - The Complete 1940's Mercury Sessions available for sale or trade. This is the one in a box that looks like an old radio. The CD's are in mint condition, the outer box has some wear but is in good shape overall. Will trade for interesting jazz or rock items (box sets or combination of single CD's). PM or email to john.felser@verizon.net if interested.

Yep. Listen to the sample of the Poland concert on the website. We're not talking "Cry of Hunger" or "Black Spiritual of Love" here...

Harper's been selling his MPS album through his fan club, though if you're just agreeing--it is, indeed, the ****. I'm not even familiar with that album! Anyone have a link for the fan club, where I can get the CD? thx. Search through www.billyharper.com--it will take you to the fan club (see image on the bottom of the page). They show it in the discography, but don't have a link to buy it like they do with most of his titles. Do we know for sure if this has been out on CD? It's the only title by him I don't own with the exception of the Live in Poland DVD, which scares me because of the choral stuff, orchestra, etc.

That is THE Sugarcane Harris album. I am really glad to see it on CD. I'd like to see Hannibal Peterson's 1975 MPS album on CD also.

We enjoyed the concert immensely. I gave my thoughts on it in a thread in the Live Music section

Spectacular show last night at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. 18 piece orchestra with some heavy talent. The names I recognized/remember were Ingrid Jensen (who took solo honors to my ears), Steve Wilson, Rich Perry, Donny McCaslin, Charles Pillow,Frank Kimbrough (who was fabulous), Jay Anderson, and Clarence Penn, but all the musicians were excellent. The compositions and arrangements were stunning, my favorites being 'El Viaje' and 'Hang Gliding'. Schneider was very gracious and compelling in her presentation, and the musicians seemed to have much joy and dignity. One of the best live musical experiences my wife and I have had. It was great to meet LWayne in person and to see Ron S and AlanLankin and Joe there. Very thankful for the Philadelphia Museum of Art putting on this series (other shows I have attended, both also very satisfying, were Eric Alexander/Harold Mabern and some group named Organissimo), and for the grants which enable them to present it for free with standard $14 museum admission. There were many hundreds of people there, well attended. This was the first time the Orchestra had ever played in Philly - hopefully they will return soon!

Japanese mini lp cds Blue Note 24 bit reissues

I'm also very soured on Ebay this morning, as paypal just ripped me off for $43 plus all their listing and selling fees by issuing a bogus refund to an unethical buyer. Had no real response from them to the evidence I submitted, just auto responses from a machine and canned responses from the paypal customer service androids. So I'm very sympathetic to your plight. Anyone doing Ebay fulltime has my unreserved sympathy. -

You should probably also publish your shipping rates to the USA. I know it's very expensive when I mail anything from the USA to Down Under. But I agree, by all means, go ahead and publish your list. JF -
Felser and Mrs. Felser (John & Christine) are planning to be at the Schneider show at the art museum. Also L. Wayne Bognar, who will be in from Pittsburgh on a business trip.

Next up for me is the reremastered 'Bridge of Sighs' by Robin Trower. Buying it for the bonus BBC cuts. Loved bassist James Dewar's singing with that group! Before that, he was in Stone the Crows, one of the most criminally underrated rock groups ever. Also included two greats, singer Maggie Bell and guitarist Les Harvey (who died of electrocution onstage).

If the Davis "complete studio" box is the Gil Evans recordings, I'll take it and the Groove Holmes, mailed media rate. Let me know. -

There's actually 3 DVD's. So far I've only looked at the first one which covers 67-83. I'm not a huge rock nor Rolling Stone fan but I enjoy the "You are There" feeling of reading about the late 60s and early 70s scene as it was happening. It's all so groovy. Would be fascinating to read Jon Landau's negative review of Jimi Hendrix's 'Are You Experienced' in the very first issue. There are two books of early record reviews from RS which are fun reading, 'The Rolling Stone Record Review', vols. 1 and 2. Though out of print for decades, should be easily available on Amazon Marketplace and Half.com. -

Looking for: Sunny Murray/Art Blakey CD
felser replied to clifford_thornton's topic in Offering and Looking For...
The Blakey material is available on any number of budget CD's (and is fabulous, though little known). I'm not familiar with the Murray session. -
Bad trade all around, very unpopular in Pittsburgh (my hometown). Kiner had led the league in HR's seven years in a row, and Branch Rickey traded him for a package of nobodies because Rickey just had to get a player named Preston Ward in the trade, and Ward did zero. Joe Garagiola was also in that trade. A little before my time, but still buzzed about when I was old enough to follow baseball (1962 - so I missed Mazeroski's HR in the '60 world series).
