Or was. Turns out they moved a few years ago. Can't speak to the new space at all.

Streaming and how much does one need to own

Hi Mark, I don't, that went to another board member a few years ago. -
Streaming and how much does one need to own
felser replied to Milestones's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I've never been interested in streaming, and it looks like that market is on the brink of economic calamity (streaming services' financial losses are staggering). I use it to preview things I am interested in buying but not convinced on. I own 5000+ keeper CD's (no heart to try to count them) in addition to what I have designated to my huge "sell" pile. I lost interest in vinyl when CD's proved to be viable long-term, and have been seeking to clear out all remaining vinyl, with mixed results. I sort of hate selling vinyl, because of the subjectivity of condition grading (have had two very unhappy experiences with that as a seller, though have had dozens of happy experiences), but do want to be free of the vinyl, which I will likely never play again I'm surprised that my BN vinyl hasn't sold any better than it has, where other labels (Mainstream, Muse, etc.) have. Retirement has given me some bandwidth to concentrate on selling, and my buying is decreasing, though still large by "normal" standards. -
What has always struck me about Wynton's fall from grace is how self-inflicted it was through his own hubris. I still greatly enjoy his work with Blakey and I do like some early albums like the live set from Blues Alley. And his approach seems to have influenced and done in Terence Blanchard, who, despite overall better results through the decades, has often fallen into the same pretentious traps.

Cut out/used copies of those passed through my hands back in the day. Both were interesting organ/vocal approaches. No CD reissues. The first Pierce album was actually on Cobblestone, the precursor to Muse.

There are a bunch of worthy candidates. I think my choice would be Jimmy Heath's Love and Understanding, followed by Louis Hayes's The Real Thing.

Soundtracks that are more famous than the film

RIP. Garth Hudson is the only surviving member, plus that shaggy-haired guy they toured with in 1966 is still around. Fascinating band at their best.

Several available on Discogs for under$20 shipped. I have this, it's a good one. One of the best Muse reissue efforts by 32Jazz, who were so hit or miss with that catalog. https://www.discogs.com/sell/list?master_id=2453818&ev=mb

May be the best Concord album I've ever heard start to finish. Frank Strozier and Conte Candoli shine.

Oh, one of them has apart!

It's a good way to sample artists around the edges at a minimal cost (such as Sal Mosca, Mike Melillo, Mike LeDonne, Scott Wendholdt,Sal Nistico on this latest order for me). The # of jazz CD's (especially interesting ones) jumps up and down on the site, I think when they end up buying a big collection (which they've done a few times in the years I've followed along). They were at 11,000+ jazz CD's a couple of months ago, now at 7700, and I remember them being around 3000 for a long time a few years ago.

I used to put on live Cecil Taylor to clear out parties. So glad we have yet another reissue of A Love Supreme, just what we've been waiting for.
-
Agreed on all counts. Glad to have it. And those Hutch sessions were the best music BN was recording at that point.
-
That session was listed as rejected rather than just unissued, though if the three unreleased tracks are on par with the released one, it should be OK listening. I feel like Morgan was in something of a cul-de-sac at that point, and renewed inspiration came with the Lighthouse and Last Album releases.
-
I asked about a Hutch/Land set many yearsago. IIRC, they were actually trying, but the cross-licensing (BN, Mainstream, Cadet) was troublesome.
-
I also love the album. One of my very early jazz purchases (Morgan's Live at the Lighthouse was my first along with a Hancock Blue Note 2LP collection).
-
Love it! Stuart's insights, memories, and stories were my favorite aspect of the Ken Burns Country Music series. I'm not a Country Music fan, but I am fascinated by U.S. History, and that music and culture is an aspect of it. Married to a country star 17 years older than he is (Connie Smith), and started with Lester Flatt as a teenager. Great to hear him doing a nuggets classic, thanks!
-
Yes, good point, them and Dillards and Gene Clatk.
-
I believe I have all of his leader sets in some form. Can't speak highly enough of what his music means to me, and he has great personal dignity when you see him live. Hearing "Capra Black" from that last Lee Morgan double album was a stunning experience for me, and I just played it over and over again 50 years ago,

Thx, just starting to work on C's, will be a few weeks to get them out there. Will set these aside for you in the meantime.
