  1. It's also a great album, though, as you note, quite different from Glass Bead Games. Wouldn't want to be without either of them. In terms of the context of my post, 'In The World' is not offered on the website, where Glass Bead Games is.
  2. That's a great question, as they had two other unreleased sessions (Wilbur Ware, Ed Blackwell, if I am remembering correctly) in the box.
  3. BFT231 1 – I like this a lot, more than I would expect to on paper. Would have been skeptical with no bass player, but it swings like mad. Very talented horn men, especially the lead tenor, who I am really digging. His date? Can’t wait for the reveal, don’t believe I own this at all. 2 – This is also really good, and flows beautifully from the first cut, though the alto player is maybe a little too frantic for my tastes. Rhythm section is strong! 3 – Huh? No thanks. 4 – Yes, please! Sure sounds like some classic 60’s BN piece, and I feel like I should be able to easily ID it, but it’s not coming to my tired brain at the moment. Absolutely need this in my collection, but I would bet it is already there. I could listen to this sort of thing all day every day. Love the drummer! Billy Higgins? 5 – Disliked it in the beginning, felt the horns were sing-songy, but the cut really grew on me as it progressed, and now I like it quite a bit and hope I have it on the shelves somewhere. 6 – Wonderful! Surely I know and have it? If not, I’ll remedy that. Group listened very carefully to the Coltrane Quartet. 7 – First thoughts are Steve Lacy with Don Cherry, though I can’t substantiate that. It’s a good cut. 8 – Recording quality leaves something to be desired, but the music is very exciting. Some serious clarinet playing there, and I’m all in. John Carter and Bobby Bradford? Nimbus West crew? Though that’s not Tapscott on piano, but I wouldn’t be shocked if it was Nate Morgan. Another where I’m looking forward to the reveal! Though I fear this one may be from a private tape of some sort rather than from an official release, given the sound defects. Those would not stop me from picking this up. 9 – Sourced from vinyl? Reggae’s not my thing. Overall, an amazing BFT, thank you!. Five of the nine cuts (1,4,5,6,8) strike me as really special, with another two (2,7) very strong. 3 and 9 were the only losers for me, and I’m sure there’s others who will like them both. Very much looking forward to the reveal, and I would like to figure out cut 4!
  4. Same here, $13.98 on Amazon. I generally wait and try to shop best price, but I want this one on my doorstep ASAP!
  5. Thanks so much, interesting and informative listen. I have seven of the tracks, though in some cases in different configurations (the dreaded Euro PD collections, the Ray Charles box etc.). The Bobby Timmons (which I have) is my favorite cut. The item I come away most wanting is the CBS All-Stars Havana Jazz set, but it is more expensive than I would have expected. But I do have some of the tracks on the Getz and Dex CBS boxes. I've always had a soft spot for the CBS All Stars Montreux Summit sets which were recorded a few years earlier.
  6. 'Glass Bead Games' should be in every home.
  7. The new one isn't working for me. I think it would have benefited from a good bit more rehearsal (also a common malady on many of the more complex Muse dates of the era, as well as several other small labels including some Strata East dates). I can see why it wasn't released in the 70's.
  8. Terry Callier - 'What Color Is Love'. "Dancing Girl" from this moves me in ways nothing else does, and it's probably the single song (any artist) I have played most frequently over the past decade. There are times, often late at night, where I have to here it, nothing else will do.
  9. Oh yeah, one of his greatest albums. Those late-BN and early Milestone albums were stunning.
  10. Only this one that I'm aware of, and no CD release for it.
  11. Thanks, I mm aware of that - I was a big fan of early Dire Straits.

    RIP Tina Turner

Tina was another who escaped a monster of a man. The 'Private Dancer' album was such a triumph on so many levels.
  13. Hard to believe "River Deep, Mountain High" stiffed on the pop charts here (huge in England). Tina was another who escaped a monster of a man. The 'Private Dancer' album was such a triumph on so many levels.
  14. RIP to a fascinating musician. He was, of course, an expert jazz bassist and composer, but also did great work in a number of styles for Vanguard and other record labels. Also had a profound effect on his son Spike (see "Crooklyn", based on the family, if you haven't). For all the wide variety of work he did with Max Roach and so many others, his composing and playing on this cut is what I will always think of first when I hear his name.
  15. Did Jymie Merritt switch before them? He was on EB by Lee Morgan's Live at the Lighthouse. And do you count Stanley Clarke in there?
  16. I'm interested and surely others would be also. Just cd's for me.
  17. Did he really have good nights as late as 1983? Honest question. I've never heard any 80's work by him that even approached his 60's/70's prime.
  18. Same here, thx!
  19. Got mine from Bandcamp some weeks ago. It's a really good set, two full albums of great sounds. Bang and Lowe were such a good front line together.
  20. Totally agree. Just do 3 CD set, one for each of the years.
