  1. Shirelles'
  2. Roscoe, Sound. Thanks Chuck.
  3. Lovely album, too bad they sat on it for two and a half years and gave it such an awful cover. And the bonus tracks session should be issued in it's entirely.
  4. It's lovely and maybe a little reminiscent of Blood Count? Listening to some more of this on YouTube, would it help you more if I bought this directly from you, from ESP, or from my local bricks 'n mortar?
  5. Just for clarity, which edition is this?
  6. Interesting question. I'll have to think about it.
  7. https://realgonemusic.com/collections/upcoming/products/dionne-warwick-the-complete-scepter-singles-1962-1973-3cd-set close enuff?
  8. The Muddy and Wolf are both worth owning, and owning on CD for the bonus tacks.
  9. Ayler, Spiritual Unity - is that the reissue version with 5 tracks or just four like the original LP?
  10. I hope Charles Brown got some $ for their revival of Please Come Home for Christmas, which while not awful doesn't really add much to the original.
  11. I've seen this written out in at least 3 different meters (15/8, alternating bars of 5/4 & 4/4 or 6/8 & 9/8) but it flows like someone spilling their guts. Genius. Think I'll go play some of his tunes on my sax now. If they can stand up to that then the're strong tunes. Like all great composers, he had range and was easily ID'ed
  12. Last time I checked the Urbie Green BN 10" was on YouTube as well.
  13. Best song goes to the songwriter(s), not (necessarily) the artist. New Artist has been the kiss of death award as often as not, Milli Vanilli, Christopher Cross. And 'could care less' presumably should be 'couldn't care less'. And if anything, they try way too hard to be current/trendy. The in memorium section may take half an hour this year.
  14. There's something I half remember reading, here or elsewhere, that I thought maybe you could help me with. I half remember somthing along the lines of 'melody has a rhythm, rhythm has a melody, etc', to the point of it all being related and truly separate only as a matter of analysis. It might have been original or quoting someone else. Might have been jSngry since it seems like something he might say.
  15. Home is Africa from Happy Frame of Mind, it'd be nice if the bass opening was higher in the mix but it's still awesome.
  16. There are some very fine jazz albums on Chess/Argo, but I don't get any sense of a philosophy or sound for the jazz on the label. chess blues, that's a whole different thing.
  17. Jubilee Shout, Stanley T, one of my favorites on BN. Agree with most of what's been posted as good lead tunes, but not Trumpet Tapioca, the lead and title tune should've been Mamacita - it was the single and if it had been a hit then KD's career takes an upturn and the whole world is better for it.
  18. FWIW, Way Out West and Goin' West are two of my very favorite things, both utterly masterful reworkings of unlikely material to suit their own purposes. They both work on many levels from simply sounds good to subtly shaded signifiers working as commentary on a whole range of concepts and culture. I honestly don't trust the opinions on American culture of any sort from those who don't get them. And, again FWIW, I heard Sonny play Hank Williams' "You Win Again" live more than once.
  19. IIRC, mine is tightly edited so that while it's indexed as separate tracks, it plays like a suite. Think I'm good, thanx for the info.
  20. It doesn't give a timing and breaks it into 19 separate tracks - I'm guessing about 30 minutes or so. Kind of a time lapse photo edit of the actual score.
  21. I have a deluxe edition CD on RYKO that has a suite drawn from the actual soundtrack as a bonus, is this different?
