  1. Playing Steven Bernstein's Diaspora Blues. I'll have to pull this out; it is a killer cd from 2002 on Tzadik.
  2. They are actually pretty good. Made by Herge's studio, I believe. Basically animated versions of the books.
  3. Covers the "handling" fees...............
  4. Now with Dizzy Gillespie.
  5. Great Reggie Workman bass playing in a duo live date at the DC Space!
  6. Beautiful! 9 pm - an interview - with Sam? - in the 70's talking about the loft jazz scene.
  7. I haven't heard it yet, but I will get to it once I have the files sorted out. George Lewis would be another fine subject for WKCR or someone to do a focus program on; what little I have heard (a Sackville recording, some others) there is some great thought and feeling to his playing. A lot of the 70's loft scene is not to everyone's taste. However, when listening to Sam, I hear echoes of his playing on Blue Note, but more far reaching.
  8. Wow, a live concert at the DC space! What a venue that place was. And now its a Starbucks......
  9. Now there is a Sam Rivers tentet recording from 79.
  10. Later this evening, Sam Rivers at the 5 Spot. A rebroadcast of the Hal Galper interview 2am. An interview with George Lewis 4 pm tomorrow.
  11. Yet another exclusive WKCR trio broadcast from 76.
  12. I would have loved to have heard the complete NY Loft Jazz festival that they apparently aired in the early 70's.
  13. Sweet Jesus, it gets better. Apparently a 1962 recording with Sam Rivers will be played in the next hour, originally done on WGBH, provided by Hal Galper. This precedes any Blue Note recording he has done.
  14. Yes, the marathons are part of the tradition of WKCR. The artists and day vary, with a few exceptions (Louis Armstrong, for example). Right now they are playing a trio broadcast from 74 that was done at the WKCR studios. Damn!!!!!
  15. I'm taping the whole thing. Amazing stuff.
  16. I can't believe no one has posted this. Right now, check out WKCR, online or otherwise. They just began a big memorial broadcast marathon celebrating the music of Sam Rivers. Ends next Friday at 9 pm. They promise lots of rarities and interviews. And yes, expect a lot of Phil Schaap yapping, but that's fine.
  17. I'm looking at the international rates, which seem to have gone a big change. No surface main option???? All are first class or priority rates.
  18. What is it that you ordered? I have yet to have a problem with ordering from them.
  19. Apparently the Library of America is coming out with a Phillip Dick volume, containing 4 of his novels.
  20. I'll second that. There's nothing wrong with the sound on the Select. Damn great music!
  21. I've been enjoying this recently:
  22. Wasn't there a live date floating around from that same year, but from Seattle, with the same rhythm section?
